Birthday Parties

Today, we woke up and got ready for the big party. I wanted to go to the store to get some fruit and some goldfish crackers to supplement the pizza. Dave ordered pizza for delivery by 1045 am. My mom had arrived by the time I’d gotten back, then we loaded up the car and headed to pick up Daniel. His mom was grateful for the pick up, and the kids had a great time talking to each other in the car. They walked the 1.5 blocks to the site, and they helped us carry some of the party supplies. We had our first guest, Sydney, and Peyton wasn’t happy to introduce her to Daniel. I practiced with her a bit, but that lead to tears. “It’s my party and I can cry if I want to…” More people arrived, and she composed herself. She’s never liked attention, even when it’s for her own party! Soon, they gathered the girls together, while I set up the room with her cupcakes. The girls and Daniel had a great time, though Peyton had a “glitch” when climbing. She wouldn’t let go once she got to the top. She was like a cat stuck up in the tree. The rest of the girls took turns going up the wall, then graduated to the back wall with the cave. By this time, Dave was looking for pizza, and had gone out to get water, which I’d forgotten to bring. I also forgot the goldfish I’d bought. I was all over the place this morning, apparently, but we had Daniel 🙂 The staff asked us if we could vacate the room, and we moved all the stuff out to the foyer. The pizza had arrived by this time, and then we moved the party outside on chairs the staff set up. They were gracious, as were all the moms that helped get everything organized for us. All in all, everything turned out. We didn’t sing to her, which was just as well, but she did help pass out cupcakes to all her friends. We also didn’t take a picture! Boo…but I did get some along the way, just not as a group.

We came home, and she was excited to open her presents. Immediately after doing so, she wrote her thank you cards, and then took a nap. I took a nap, too, and then it was time for the adult birthday party! We were celebrating Kathy and Bonnie’s birthday down at a Greek place. Michelle and I were the first to arrive, then Theresa, Julie and the birthday girls. We had some wine, drinks, and appetizers first before our entrees came. Bonnie hooked up the table with birthday baklava! It was a great night out, and we’ve already set up the next birthday night!
