It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye…

Peyton’s BFF, Daniel, is moving back to Israel. She’s known him since her first t-ball season, as they were on the same team. This was while she was in preschool. (Still can’t believe she’s been playing that long). Once she started school, we were fortunate to be in the same classroom together – out of 6 potential classrooms! This was HUGE for her, as it helped to know someone in her class. This was the only friend she had in her class when she first started. And her first year of school was rocky at best, so he helped her get through that with his calm, even manner. They did play dates during the year, and I felt comfortable dropping her off or even having his mom pick her up from school and take her back home. She was the 5th kid, and later 6th kid, as his mom gave birth to a baby girl that year. When they started first grade, we were delighted that they were in class together again! This time, she had a MUCH better year, and the teacher did mention the two of them acted like an “old married couple”. Both kids were busier, but they did get to each other’s birthday parties and saw each other while we were picking up their older siblings from band. While at baseball’s closing party, his mom mentioned that they were moving. She thought we knew! She thought Daniel may have told Peyton. Daniel had been quite sad, and he was already missing leaving, especially another little boy named Colton. Those two were inseparable, and C went to CDC, so he knew Peyton, too. They were supposed to have a playdate at our house last week, but he came down with a fever and stomach ache. I didn’t want to push it, especially with my sickie, Peyton, so I post poned it until this week. We didn’t have much time, as they were all packed and the house was empty. His mom warned me to warn Peyton to not surprise her. Dave picked the kids up from camp, and he met me at home. He took Peyton to Daniel’s while I took Brandon to piano. Daniel only had an hour or so, and I had put together the start of a photo album with a few pictures of the two of them together. Peyton had signed the inside cover of the photo album. When we got home from piano, Peyton hadn’t gotten back yet. When she came in, Brandon asked, “Why are you crying?” She denied crying, but Dave said they looked like they were about to! He took some pictures…

Daniel wanted to be pen pals, so Dave said we had to set up an email for Peyton, which I did and texted his mom the address.

Hopefully they can share stories and learn how to type better đŸ™‚

I asked her about ice skating and commended her on keeping her stuff all together. She told me she loved it, but at one point she said she was sad. I asked her why and she said because Jesselyn left! She got picked up early to go to the movies with her cousin visiting from out of town. So she just hung out with Chloe instead. Glad she could make new friends! I had asked her to wear her helmet and gloves. And had her change her pants. She said she went into the bathroom herself and changed into long pants. I was proud of her as she said no one else did it. I was afraid she’d wear her shorts out on the rink because she was too embarrassed to change. But it’s too hot in the morning to wear pants.

Today, I snuck in to see her after I was done with work. She was cruising around on the ice, talking to the counselors, trying to get them to tag her, but…she wasn’t wearing a helmet. OR JACKET! She was in short sleeves, skating faster than I’d like to see! She did have her gloves on, so at least she listened to me there. When she saw me, she was a bit startled. She missed seeing me for a good ten minutes while I stalked her. She only saw me when she finally got off the ice and said, “What are you doing here?” I did warn her again to wear her helmet and not to let it happen again as she never knew whose eyes were on her. I may even stop by again on Thursday. Or Wednesday. Or Friday!

Speaking of stalking, Brandon has a camera in his room that Dave uses for perimeter security. But he can also turn it around and look into Brandon’s room. Brandon told Dave to “stop stalking me!” while at the same time, Brandon watches Dave’s car go in and out of the driveway and asks me where he’s going at night. I told him, “Stop stalking daddy!” To which Peyton replied, “What does ‘stalking’ mean anyway?”
