Rain a thon

Today was Brandon’s last walk a thon. He told me a few weeks ago he didn’t want to walk in it.  He said he was done.  Then, a few days ago, he said he was just going to do the minimum to get his prizes.  Then, this morning, he asked me, “Can you walk a lap with me?”   So sweet.  He ended up giving it a go and did quite a few laps.  He’s not setting any records but he walked with friends.  At one point when I did see him, I asked him if he wanted me to walk with him. Of course he was with friends and quickly shook his head.  This is the boy I had to grab by the hand and run him as a kinder.  Then take off on him carrying snacks to keep him motivated.  Now he’s all grown up and doing his last one at the school.  At another point, both he and Peyton were running together! No other kids were around. I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough!  I saw Peyton and asked if she wanted me to walk with her. Of course with her, I got a swift nod.  I joined her and we walked hand and hand for a lap. I was in rain boots so I didn’t continue. But in the course of the day, I did get over 11,000 steps.  Dave and I set up most of the day.  Dave put up all the signs or delegated some to a helper.  But that helper also had a two year old in tow so she didn’t last long.

Brandon petered out first from walking laps.  It was wet much of the day but not as bad as it could have been.  We got Peyton a poncho at the start but Brandon refused one. He later regretted his decision.  Peyton kept going until time was called.

After we cleaned up, Brandon went home with Dave. They cleaned up and then met Peyton and me at the Girl Scout powder puff impound.  We are running cars tomorrow so I was helping set up the middle school.  Dave had a coach’s meeting at another local middle school so he was just dropping Brandon off to me.  The kids were watching Moana until I was done after 730. Peyton had dinner that dave brought over. I got them home, showered up Peyton, then practiced piano with her.  She had to remind me so as to not break her streak. The good thing about the rain was that Brandon’s baseball practice was cancelled. I sent them to bed to watch my bid items. I was able to enlist Dave from his meeting to help me bid on an item.  He finally came home after the auction was done. And now we’re awaiting word on the status of the games tomorrow.

Hopefully with rain, we will get a dull moment.
