Peyton was selected for the all skills game as well as earned a spot on the throwing accuracy skill by beating all the other kids on our team. She was representing our team against the best of the other teams.
I arrived just in time to see her. She showed poise the first two throws but fell apart on the third as she had done in practice. Then the girl after her knocked three in no sweat. She was second!
Dave had asked me if he should coach for or against Peyton. I asked Peyton. She looked at me and said, “Why would he do that? Of course I want him to coach me.”
Dave was assistant coach and the MD that I know or made the connection with at the beginning of the season was the head coach. His wife was saying to me that her daughter loves “Little Peyton”. I didn’t know they knew each other but apparently they warmed up with each other before. I even had to ask “My little Peyton” because she didn’t know me either. I did introduce myself at that point. The manager had Peyton pitch (she didn’t remember how many she walked – it was 3), but she did have a few strikes just not all at once to get anyone out. Then she played short stop, outfield and short stop. Dave didn’t think she should have gotten such key positions.
