Birthday week recap

Birthdays when you're a parent are just not the same. I got lots of texts and FB posts on Wednesday, and then we had a usual practice for Brandon and homework for Peyton. She had a test on Thursday, so she was on her own to study. I took a nap, while she worked diligently writing out answers for the questions on the pre-test. I didn't think it was going to happen that we go out, since it was after 7 pm before Brandon was even done. Dave picked up food and brought it home and that was along with the cake he already had in the fridge. It was tiramisu, and we couldn't wait until we were done with dinner to eat it. Dave couldn't wait to get a photo so I could post it so that he could be given his brownie points for being a good husband for a midweek birthday celebration.

We did that, then we cut the cake open for us all to enjoy. Even though there was rum and espresso, no one had problems falling asleep.

Thursday, Peyton had practice after piano. Brandon didn't have his basketball game, so it was a little less stressful.

Friday night, Tracy and I had plans for my birthday dinner celebration. I took Brandon home from baseball practice, while Dave and Peyton met us at the restaurant from basketball practice. Tracy and I got to hang out and catch up, while the men and kids ate on their own at a Chinese place. We all met up for yogurt afterward, and while Tracy and I were walking in, the three kids ran into the shop. The dads were chatting and strolling in, looking like they were enjoying each other's company.

We got to sleep late that night, and Peyton had softball early the next morning, while Brandon had his basketball practice. He then went his first tournament game, while I had Peyton take a nap. We had UCLA/Stanford football tickets, and we were going with Michelle and Mckayla. Peyton initially told me, "I'm not interested" but then changed her mind when she found out Mckayla would go. Mckayla felt the same way when she learned Peyton was going. Peyton, normally my turtle eater, finished up first, then her friends followed. They played a bit then we headed to the stadium in two separate cars. We each had parking passes, so we were able to park in the same spot. We parked on each side of a big tree. We walked through the dirt parking lot and headed into the stadium. We said bye to Marcus and Ted and found our seats. Peyton was so excited, she exclaimed, "I can see!" We were on the 10 yard line and pretty close to the field, in the lower section. We had about 30 minutes to wait for the game to start. We stood for the National Anthem, and then the game started. It was a fun one at the beginning with a close game then we started to trail and then it got ugly. We left after the third quarter and had a scavenger hunt for the car.

Luckily, we were all together or Peyton and i may have had to sleep there overnight. We drove home and Brandon was already sound asleep.

We all gathered together for Brandon's team on Sunday. We left home by 9 am, and we didn't return until later that evening, almost 12 hours later.

They won the first game at 1015 am, then the 245 pm and then moved on to the final game at 5 pm. My parents were going to take me out for dinner. But we decided to wait until the boys were done. They fought hard, but lost by one run in the end.

Second place again!
