While we did not have a whole weekend of anything, our weekend did start off with an event. Peyton had a girl scout event at a local school nearby. Brandon chose to come with us, since Dave wasn’t home by 645 pm, when we were to be there. It was a bit overwhelming, as it was a craft fair put on by the troops, and each girl received 5 festival dollars to spend on 5 different crafts. Each of our girls were paired up, and they were to go shopping with their buddies. At this time, Dave arrived and I walked Brandon out of the building to meet him. We had an impromptu race in the parking lot, since he had recently run an 8 minute mile. Unfortunately, now, he still needed more of a distance, as he was not able to beat me, while I was in ballet flats and he, in running shoes. I returned to the faire, only to watch Peyton and her buddy walk around methodically. The other girls were shopping like it was their Black Friday! The other girl’s mom came up to me and laughed at our two girls. She said her daughter knows she can’t bring candy home because her mom wouldn’t let her eat it, so she wouldn’t waste her tickets on that. Other girls were “buying” cars made of candy bar bricks. Like one ticket would give them 10 pieces of candy at least! It was a bit nuts. It took our two girls 45 minutes to finally select something. Peyton went practical, and bought a safety/first aid kit that was prepared in a prescription vial. She bought a necklace made out of an old fashioned Christmas light bulb, and she came back with a tiny stuffed animal in a cellophane bag. She took a bit more time with the last two items, and both girls proudly came back with a hot cocoa reindeer sleeve, saying to us, “It’s not candy!” Touche, girls, touche. Her last item was a button that was made by a troop. After they were done, they went to go to the treat table, which they had ignored in lieu of shopping.
Saturday, the morning was free because we opted out of another, larger craft faire in SJ. We’ve been the last three years, but this was the first Saturday morning we’ve had free in months. She didn’t mind not going, so I was glad for that. Dave turned on a pre-recorded Disney holiday program from all the parks. It was 2 hours long, so they got a good chunk of Tv time finally. After it was done, reading and piano followed for Peyton. Dave went out to get a Christmas tree, then came home and took both kids out for baseball/softball practice. I decorated the tree while they were gone, but I thought Dave would be able to hang lights (his job) around what I’d done. He shook his head, and denied my request, not wanting to disturb all the ornaments. To be fair, we rarely turn on the lights since we’re not monitoring the front of the house while they’re on. Peyton walked in and said, “But I wanted to help!” which I knew would be her complaint. She wanted to take them all off and put them back on to help me again! Not a bad idea if I want lights, but i wasn’t going to do all that, since I didn’t foresee as much time in the near future.
Dave then took Brandon to basketball practice, while I told Peyton to nap with me. Again, something we haven’t done in a long time. She denied that she was tired, but did agree to lie down with me. She snuggled up to me to take advantage of “your body heat” and was motionless within 5 minutes. I played on my phone for awhile before joining her in slumber. We had a holiday party for the kids’ basketball league, so I knew I wanted her to rest. We had dinner at home, then Peyton and Dave went up to the party. Brandon was having difficulty cleaning his room and being respectful so he earned time at home to work on both of those. After over an hour of cleaning, he was ready to attend the party. Because he’d been crying, his face was all red and puffy. He tried to use cold water to reduce the puffiness, but it still looked a bit off. He did calm down, and he was very respectful as we headed out. He took off for the treats table when we arrived and found his teammates and friends. He later told me his friend asked him why his face was so red. He quickly answered, “I think I got too much sun today.” Nice save, buddy. We all headed home after the party.
Peyton did her piano and reading this morning, but we were out the door to get her to softball tryouts for the team she just finished with. They will be re-forming the team, so she still had to try out. 15 girls came out, and Dave was commenting on her swing in front of the other parents. one dad told us to lighten up, as Peyton “is the number one batter on the team.” (She’s the second…not the first). But, he was acknowledging how well she was doing at bat. I think Peyton may have heard him, as she was cranking the ball out today. They stayed out on the field for at least 2 hours, and as they were releasing the non-pitchers/catchers, she was going to thank her coaches. But, soon, one of the coaches asked her, “Are you going to pitch?” She initially shook her head, then the now main coach said, “Yeah, get out here, kid!” So there she went; we stayed another 30 minutes for her to pitch with a catcher. Five of them all warmed up, with 5 catchers. We’ll see how she does. We picked up lunch for the kids at New Seasons market, and then had them eat quickly. Peyton went home to change into more comfortable piano clothes. She asked if she could practice her song, so she did that a few times before I dropped her off to her piano performance party, a mini recital for just the kids. I did a few errands in the hour that she was at the recital before picking her right back up to go home. She changed her clothes (again), for basketball, then we all headed to the gym. Brandon had a game at 330 pm and was to arrive by 3 pm. Peyton’s practice started at 3 pm, so it was perfect. I watched the first part of her practice before heading over to the next gym to watch Brandon’s game. It’s the first game I’ve been able to watch of his. They pulled out the win, and then we all went home. Both kids earned a movie tonight, with a movie Peyton had deemed her “favorite” without even seeing it on a poll she took last year. Boss Baby. We went back to the grocery store, just the two of us, while the kids watched the movie at home. We made it back in less than an hour, visiting two stores. We were using our instant pot for the first time making kalua pork and cabbage. It turned out great! We’ll have it for lunch/dinner tomorrow, as it wasn’t done until after the kids were asleep.
