Two Grandma’s!

This long Thanksgiving weekend is over already!  I can’t believe it’s the holiday season – it went by so fast!  Brandon was so lucky this weekend, he got to spend it with all of his grandparents.  But it can be a little confusing for him.  My mom would ask him to give something to “Grandma” then Brandon would look at her a little puzzled, then would need to be directed to give something to Daddy’s mommy.  At least my mom calls my dad “Papa” to have some distinction between Dave’s dad who is Grandpa.  We all had a great time in Auburn, just watched football, did some shopping and, of course, played MJ.  We had a huge turkey and an equally huge ham.  Brandon got confused and thought we had two turkeys.  He can “gobble, gobble” when he eats turkey.  We’re going to be eating leftovers for awhile – and we even distributed among all of us!

Something else that Brandon learned this weekend – Daddy’s name is Dave or David.  He hears us calling Dave and/or David; so last night, as we were home, I was lying down with him and Dave was nearby on the ground.  He sat up in the dark and said, “Daaaa-vid.”  I had to tell him, “While that is Daddy’s name, we would like for you to call him Daddy.”

Finally, to wrap up our weekend, we went to meet Santa today.  I’ll post some pics that we took.  We waited almost an hour – and we got there right at about 11am when it opened.  We went to a different place than last year – last year we went to the more ghetto mall, but we got a CD, and there was no line.  This year, since Brandon is more aware of what’s going on, we went to the supped up “Santa Village” in the mall and waited with the other kids.  He had just woken up from a nap, so it didn’t feel like a long time.  He was so excited to see Santa (we were talking about it all morning).  When we were on deck, I took him out of the stroller so he could see better.  His face lit up!  After the family in front of us was done, we walked up to Santa.  Brandon’s smile disappeared.  He stared at him for a long while.  Santa whispered to me to keep Brandon happy until the camera was ready.  Luckily, the camera people were changing the paper and taking their time, so I had time to re-acquaint the two of them.  I held Brandon while Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas.  We (and by we I mean Santa and I) talked about Choo-Choo Thomas, fire trucks, planes, and cars.  He told Brandon he liked his outfit in this Southern drawl.  Finally they were ready, and I plopped Brandon on Santa’s lap.  He didn’t cry, but I think he was trying to play it cool.  His eyes teared up and he was taking pretty big breaths in.  We were both smiling at him, waving, trying to get him to smile.  He just looked at us then looked at Santa and back at us.  He didn’t make any moves to get off Santa’s lap while we were trying to get pictures, but as soon as I went over to get him, he leapt off in a hurry.  He smiled as soon as I gave him a candy cane.

Now that I’m writing this and showing Brandon the pictures that we took today, he is saying, “Santa! Santa!” pointing at the pictures, like they go way back.  Brandon is all talk.  pictures: http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandingSignin.jsp?Uc=11wjioy4.abmca7i8&Uy=myx2l9&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=1
