At 110, I checked my phone to see where Brandon’s dot was en route to home. I saw it was stopped in front of their friends’ house probably dropping H off after school. No biggie. But the dot lingered. I walked two laps and the dot stayed put. Then I got the first text. From Brandon. Asking if they could stay at their friends’ house. Then it was Brandon’s friend. Asking me if they could stay. Then I texted their mom to see if truly that was ok with her. She responded that they had asked her and it was fine with her but the girls had chores between 330-4pm. So I texted ok to Brandon but to be out by 330. Agreed. I set a timer for 330 pm to make sure I checked in with the kids. At 315 Pm I had a mini panic attack that my alarm had gone off while I was in the restroom or something. Then realized it wasn’t yet time. So at 320, I texted a 10 minute warning. No response. Until 332, when I got “We’re leaving”. I then gave a list of things for them to do at our house. I got home after Dave. When he found out about their extended pit stop, his response was “How and why?”
Brandon said G made pasta for them and P used pesto sauce while Brandon ate garlic sauce. Veggies were offered to them by H who didn’t eat them (bell peppers). Brandon was concerned that g was turning of the fire of the stove. I texted their mom that ours hadn’t graduated from the microwave. I had texted him earlier what they were doing. He responded “Playing games”. I wasn’t sure if “real” games or video. But he told me they were playing Life. Good fun which I did realize they should have every once in awhile. Both said they behaved and played nicely and thanked their hosts. We went to softball practice then rushed to basketball clinic a bit late. P was fired up despite being at softball practice for almost two hours. She had some nice moves scoring a few in their scrimmage games and making some good passes. Her softball arm was helping with her passes and unlike last night where she was paired against tough competition in one girl who was super fast, she was ON her team this time. She fired a pass to her, throwing just past her, while the kid turned it on against her opponent to get the ball down court for an easy layup.
She got in a good hour of practice before huddling up. Two more crazy days of this late night clinic. And another 10 pm bedtime after eating at home, showering and practicing piano. We’ll have her sleep sometime soon!
