Smallest of Worlds

Today, Peyton went out to a clinic day hosted by another team. It wasn’t a tryout like she had yesterday, but this morning, when we went to look more closely, it was for birth years ending in 05, 06, and 07. Our friend that told us about it is an 07 birth year, but she assured us this morning that the coach knew Peyton was younger. We were welcomed and Peyton saw her buddy from the Florida team at the registration desk. They quickly got their gear together, and both got onto the field. She was invited by the coach, as they take pitching lessons from the same coach up near where they live, over an hour away (on the weekend!) The clinic was scheduled for 5 hours with a break for lunch.

We hung around for the morning, passed her lunch at the break and reminded her to wash her hands. She was holding her own out on the clinic, pairing up with her friend, even though some of her teammates were there, too.

For the afternoon portion, Dave was asked to scout another tryout, so he went across the street to do that, while I hung out. Soon, I saw a dad that I thought I recognized, but it wasn’t until I saw the mom that I got the courage to go up to her. I asked her if she attended MA, and then she immediately recognized me. She reminded me that her daughters were one and two years ahead of Brandon, and that she had also moved from FA after her daughters were beyond the 3 year old classroom. Her younger daughter was out on the field for the 14 U team. She remembered that I was a pharmacist, which I am shocked by, but I guess we did chaperone a few field trips together because we were equally paranoid about the other parents’ ability to do so. And being that it was Brandon back then, I didn’t want to take my eye off him at all! We wrapped up the clinic by 3 pm as scheduled, and we headed back home. It was a nice day out, unlike yesterday, where it was rather chilly. Brandon was waiting for us at home, where he’d been away with my mom for the CAL game that was yesterday. He ran into our TC friends, each sibling is in the same grade and gender as ours. He had previously texted me the night before to let me know. We are heading back to school/work tomorrow, so that will be a challenge. But bring on the holiday season!
