Last week, while at Dave’s parents’ house, Peyton saw a digital picture frame that was cycling through the Shih family pictures. She looked at Penelope and said, “El-pee”. She saw Jeff and said, “Ankle.” She knew Abby’s name, probably helps that she learned Elmo and Abby. She didn’t remember Meg’s name. She has a harder time saying “Auntie”.
Later in the week, Dave was putting her snowman jammies on, and she said, “Snowman! Like papa!” I guess she thinks my dad is pale and round. While in the car this week, Brandon and I heard “E.I.” on the radio. Brandon listened to it for a few seconds, and said, “What funny song is this?” I told him, and then I was asking him about “that funny song” later. He said, “You mean that ‘I, I, I -uh-oh’ song?” Haha, gotta love Nelly.
On Thursday night, I told Brandon that if he woke up before 7am the next morning, he had to put away his toys that were in the middle of the floor. I didn’t want him stalling by doing it that night. He went to bed, and I thought, since it was my day off the next day, I would get lots of sleep! I awoke at 550am to some clattering coming from Brandon’s room; the light was already on. He was putting his toys away!! He still looked so sleepy! I told him (kinda yelled at him) it was too early and that he needed to go back to sleep. He climbed back into bed, while I turned off the light. I went back to my room, and of course, couldn’t fall back asleep. I felt badly for yelling at him, so I went back into his room to try to get him to go back to sleep, too. He has Dave’s problem, in that he can’t just lie around once he’s woken up. There is no going back to sleep. Peyton and I could probably sleep all day long! She he tossed and turned, but at least rested, for the next hour. At 7am, he announced it was “7-zero, zero” and got up to finish his task. Poor kid, must have been so confused by my instructions.

We heard “You belong to me” on the radio (we spend a lot of time in the car, shuttling back and forth between school). Brandon said, “Wow, that’s an old song.” I love how a song that came out 2 years ago is now an old song for him. He is now on the most current T. Swift CD for bedtime now.
Peyton is getting even more demanding lately. While playing today, she said, “Come here, Mommy. Sit down,” and patted the ground next to her. She wanted me to see what she was making. Then, tonight, she said, “Lie down, Mommy,” while I was trying to get her to go to sleep. At least she doesn’t take too long to actually fall asleep, like 10 minutes. She was so tired today from this weekend’s festivities. We had Peyton’s birthday, part 2, at my parents’ house. Dave cooked ribs and my grandma, aunt, uncle and cousin came over. It was a joint party, since we missed my dad’s birthday earlier in the week. Peyton hadn’t really slept much of the day, and we had dinner around 530pm. By the time we got to cake about 2 hours later, she was so tired. She was resting on her arm on the table, while we were getting candles together. Even eating her slice of cake, she looked like she would fall asleep right in it. She perked up a bit when it was time to open gifts. She was stubborn and did not thank my family members for any gift. The only person she thanked was Brandon. “Thank you, Bruddah,” is what she said after some prompting. He had “given” her a Duplo Jessie and Bullseye set. She was pretty excited to see it. We held off opening it until today, since I don’t think she would have lasted. Brandon took a bath first, and when it was her turn, I asked her if she wanted a bath. She went running! Since we were staying overnight, I dried her hair off, and told her to go tell my dad goodnight. She went into his room, said, “Goodnight, Papa, bye-bye!” Then, she rushed off. So excited to get to sleep. I had Brandon in his bed, then Peyton was on the floor at the foot of the bed. Brandon asked, “Why can’t Peyton sleep up here with me?” I told him that she may fall off. He said, “No she won’t; I’ll hold her hand!” It was sweet, but I didn’t trust that she wouldn’t fall off.
Both kids are sleeping now at about a little after 8pm. Brandon hadn’t taken a nap at all, and Peyton only slept a little in the car today. Time to start another week!
