We woke up to a pretty chill morning. In fact, we were doing loads of laundry, where everyone helped out, sorting from last night’s three loads. Dave took Peyton out for a walk (to get her to nap), while I got ready and Brandon got to watch a movie he had wanted to watch earlier in the week, but couldn’t since it wasn’t the weekend. We headed out to Marcus’ birthday party after Dave and Peyton got back. We had lots of fun in the backyard – it was a beautiful day to have a party! Mckayla shared her frisbee and even came all the way over to give us a beach ball. She had fun with Peyton and Brandon. Then the twins woke up from their nap and came in. All the kids had fun in the jumpy house – a firetruck with a slide inside. Peyton loved it, as did Brandon. Peyton, as always, took to the babies, and even followed the boys around the tennis court. True to Peyton, she bumped her head on the ball tray, as she was following one of the twins, who cleared the tray, while Peyton ran smack dab into it across the bridge of her nose. It left a scrape, unfortunately, before we were supposed to go to the wedding and take pictures. Yes, it was on my watch, since Dave was playing basketball with Brandon. I was too busy watching the twins toddle around, and totally missed protecting Peyton. I saw it happen, but wasn’t fast enough to give her a barrier. She was fine with the exception of the small scrape. We left right before cupcakes, fortunately, as I knew the kids would get plenty of junk food later in the day. Luckily, both ate their lunches nicely, and ate everything we gave them. They both had a good balance of meat, noodles, fruit and veggies.
All the non-drivers took a nap while we drove up to the city. Our plan was to get there early, find a parking spot, and then change. It was a more comfortable drive to not be dressed in nice clothes. Brandon woke up while we were looking for a parking spot. He suddenly asked, “Think we’re gonna catch a leprechaun this year?” It was so random, but so funny all at the same time.
We found a spot right next to the church, on the street. Changing four of us in the car was not ideal. We used the sun shade, since Brandon said, “I don’t want anyone to see my privates.” I didn’t either, given I was in the front seat, and trying to get into a dress. When Peyton heard Brandon, she repeated, “I no want see privates. What (are) privates?” Then, Brandon said he had to go potty. So, Dave and he headed out early after they were changed, while I got Peyton and me dressed. We made it into the church with 5 minutes to spare; just enough time for me to go to the restroom and settle into my pew. Peyton was still a bit groggy, and sat nice enough for us. I had her veggies in my bag, but I didn’t want to give them to her up front. She had the purse my mom had given her yesterday. What really kept her busy was the hook/eye button on her sweater. She was fascinated by it and tried to loop it through on her own. I thought she was going to scream out of frustration, but she just whispered to us. There were other kids in the ceremony, and also babies. Brandon sat nicely with my mom, and did not make a peep. I knew he would be the one I could count on to be quiet. He was taking pictures with my mom’s camera. Peyton had fun trying to spot the princess. She stood at attention as requested when the bride made her way down the aisle. It was a nice ceremony, about 30 minutes in length. I followed along with the program to see when a good time would be to get the veggies. She got antsy about half way through, and we brought it out, and she said, “Oh, bib!” I told her she had to use her bib when eating in her fancy dress, so she was reminding me about it. I told her we’d use it later. She methodically picked out all the corn, then peas, then carrots, and left all the green beans before putting the top back on the container. By this time, the ceremony was almost done. Perfect timing. Afterward, we headed outside, to let the kids take a break before heading over to the reception site. It was a little stressful having the kids in the cocktail hour, given there were passed Hors d’œuvre and I didn’t want them to get knocked over. We tried to get out of the way, but the kids just needed to relax a little. We all took pictures in the photo booth. Brandon and Kimberlee had fun making silly faces. When it was time to take our seats, it was much easier to keep an eye on the kids. I even had a cosmo 🙂 , which I was happier about enjoying at the table, so I knew none of the kids would try to sneak a sip. Brandon got a half glass of cranberry juice, to which he squealed, “OOh…is this wine?” He was so excited to drink it. I told him it was a special time. As soon as I turned around, he was sucking on the ice, having slurped up all the juice with the straw. Record time.

The kids were served fruit with our salads (Brandon had some of our salad, too), and then chicken fingers and fries. Brandon finished all his fingers (4 of them) and one of Peyton’s. He only had a few fries, as I asked him to take only one handful or 5 of them. He was smart and took some of the longer fries.
After dinner for them, they each got two scoops of ice cream. Two scoops!! Peyton, not knowing what it was, started out by grabbing the top scoop with her bare hand. Dave and I both said, “Ah, ah, ah!!” We said it quickly, and I think it startled her. She started to get her pouty lip, and quickly grabbed my hand and pressed it against her face. This was the second time today that she’s done this. It was like a comforting thing, because as she did it, she relaxed herself to avoid tears. She did it earlier in a similar situation when she thought she was in trouble, and was getting all huffy. She grabbed my hand, and rubbed it against her lower jaw area, over her scar under her chin. I knew she was getting sleepy, so I asked Dave to go take her for a walk in the stroller. I kissed her and said, “Good night, Peyton.” She said, “Where are you going?” Haha. Just as he was going to take her out, the cake cutting and dancing started. We figured we’d let the kids go dance, and have some fun, then go home. It was only about 815pm, but we’d had a long day. It was at this time, Peyton looked up at me with puppy dog eyes and said, “I’m wet.” I told her, “Thank you for telling me, now tell Daddy.” She turned to Dave, as if she were asking for the first time, and gave him her puppy dog eyes. “Daddy, I’m wet,” she whispered to him, asking more with her eyes than her words. He went to take her, and when they got back, Brandon and my mom were on the dance floor. My mom had asked Brandon earlier if he’d dance with her. Unlike the last wedding we attended, he did get out there and dance. They had a live band, which totally made the difference, I think. Peyton was content to watch people dance on the dance floor, staring up at them. A little unnerving if you ask me. She only smiled when she went up to Brandon to try to tickle him. The problem was that her shoes were slippery and whenever she’d try to chase Brandon, she’d fall. I was worried that she’d get stepped on, or have an adult trip over her since she is so low to the ground (and accident-prone). She didn’t want me to pick her up, she just wanted to stay on the floor and chase Brandon. Finally, we knew it was our time to leave. Dave picked up some things at the candy bar (great idea!) – particularly the pink-themed gummies packed in take home heart containers. We all had a great time, and both kids were out on the drive home. Brandon got up when we got home, and he did a great job brushing his own teeth, despite being super tired. Peyton woke up only after we got her upstairs, and I brushed her teeth and was glad she let me. I think Dave is more tired than the kids, since he was the only one who didn’t have a nap today. Glad he got us all home safely.
