Mother’s day weekend

We started off the weekend on Friday with Brandon’s parents’ appreciation day at school.  His last performance, he was very shy, and fiddled with his sweater.  It was a surprise for the parents, so I told him how excited I was to hear him this time.  He did not disappoint.  He did as he had practiced, and we heard him even though we were watching from the middle, and he was on the end.  He spotted me and waved.  They did three songs – “Ain’t no mountain high enough”, “Honey Bunch”, and “Three little birds.”  The last song I didn’t recognize from the program, but once the kids started singing it, I realized I did know it. It’s a reggae song. Brandon’s classroom was first up, and Peyton was also excited to see Brother.  After the 5 other classrooms performed, we went out to fly our kites.  It was windy enough for them to get the kite really high up in the air.  Peyton was not interested in the kites, instead walked away toward the kids playing basketball.  She stood at the gate and just watched them practice.  When we got back, I learned that Brandon’s spool of thread got away from him, but it luckily got caught up on another kite, which saved it.  Peyton was happy to have refreshments, and the other teachers are already remembering who she was.  One teacher, Lauren, had asked her name last week, and offered her some fruit by name.  Peyton looked a little surprised that she knew her name.  Peyton had some pretzel mix, and asked me, “Want try this one?”  I’m glad she is slowly learning to share her food.  Just being there, she said, “I wan go Brandon’s school.  I read in kindergarten.”  My mom came with us, and she had fun as well.  We made an impromptu decision to spend the night up at my dad’s house since my mom was going back on Friday night.  And since we were going to be up there for Sunday brunch, we figured to stay Saturday night, too.  We packed for the weekend, and headed up.
While we were getting ready, Peyton dumped some sand from her shoes on the floor.  She said, “Mommy, vacuum it!”  Out of frustration (because I was trying to pack up, and didn’t want to deal with sand on the floor), I told her, “You vacuum it!  You made the mess!”  Then she went over to the closet, got the vacuum pieces out, and started putting it together.  Ai-yah!  So I thanked her for helping me, and we vacuumed up the sand.  I was telling my mom how much I needed a vacation, and looking forward to August.  Brandon heard us and whined, “Mommy, I don’t want you to go.”  I sincerely looked at him and said, “Brandon, I don’t want you to go either.”  🙂  He just frowned and said, “Hrmph.”
We went up to see my dad, and Brandon gave him his own encore performance.  My dad recognized the first song, then didn’t know the reggae song.  He just said, “Well, maybe you need some background music.”  They did have music that they sang to on that song.  The other two were a Capella.
Saturday we all went shopping together.  We went to the mall, and drove around.  Since we had my mom’s car, we were all in one car.  Brandon saw the sign for the “31 flavors” store.  He said, “Oh, look, Mommy!  Burrr.”  Peyton had fallen asleep in the car on the way back to my dad’s.  I picked her up and put her on my dad’s bed.  Brandon was sent downstairs to sleep. The adults were in the kitchen, waiting for my other family to arrive.  After about half an hour, Peyton came walking into kitchen.  It surprised us, since I had hoped she hadn’t fallen off the bed to get to us.  She wasn’t crying, just groggy.  She climbed up to me and fell back asleep while I held her.   My grandma, aunt, uncle and cousin came over about 5 minutes later.  Peyton slept through their entry.  My grandma came up to her and started giving her kisses and poking her on the cheek.  I told her to leave her alone, but she said she doesn’t let me do this while she is awake, so I’m doing it now.  Peyton slept through the pokes and prods.
The kids got to stay up an hour or so past their bedtime.  They were so wired, but had some good family time.

Today, we had brunch at a hotel.  Brandon asked, “Are our friends going to be there?”  I told him, “This is our family.”  He said, “Oh, our whole family is here!  Well, except Grandma and Grandpa.”  I told Brandon they weren’t there because Daddy didn’t invite them.  Brandon looked at Dave and said, “But they’re YOUR PARENTS!”  Here’s a picture of lunch (Brandon’s first tie 🙂  )

We came straight home after lunch.  Brandon took a quick nap in the car, while Peyton fell asleep and stayed asleep, enough for me to take about a two hour nap with her.  When we woke up, we went to the park to have Brandon practice more on his bike.  Peyton had fun on hers as well, and then we went over to the structure.  She pointed to the high bar, and wanted to go up on it like at gymnastics.
Here’s the video (she lasted about 7 seconds, plus the time it took for me to get my phone out, probably another few seconds).  She was a trooper!  I wonder how long she really would have been able to last.  She was totally scared to let go!  (Notice, I keep her helmet on when she’s on the structure, just for the extra protection).  We came home and fed the kids a quick dinner before getting them off to bed by 8pm.  Neither of them complained, and we are catching up on Sunday night TV
