Today Show groupies

We woke up around 8am thinking we’d try to get to the Today Show for the American Idol performance by Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis.  I watch the Today Show almost every morning when I’m getting ready for work.  Usually they have a 9 o’clock musical segment, so we were shooting for that.  We just got up and got ready as soon as possible.  We rushed down the 20+ blocks to Rockefeller Center.  When we got there, the area wasn’t so crowded, so something seemed off.  Usually, it’s really crowded, especially if we were there for AI.  Then we overheard the security guard say that the performances had just wrapped up 15 minutes ago!  Somewhat disappointed, we hung out to see what else was going on in the plaza.  The 2008 Olympic women’s gymnastics team out on the plaza, with the bar and mats.  Bela Karoli was there and was interviewed by Ann Curry.

Next we waited for Tiki Barber to interview Chef Ming Tsai who was there to demonstrate his Asian take on grilling and BBQ.  We then left and walked around for awhile trying to figure out what to do especially since this was the earliest we’ve woken up all week.  So since we were already there, we went on a tour of Rockefeller Center – up to the observation deck and also in the Target room which had motion detector lights that would go off as you moved around the room.  Brandon really liked the cause and effect lesson in the room, since even Brandon had a little marker that lit up.  Every time he moved, the little light moved.  We were on the inside of the 64th floor looking down to the 63th floor.  He saw a girl sitting down and started waving to her.  The girl kind of hesitated and the waving back!  We later saw them closer up on the same floor and the girl told her mom that this was the kid that she was waving to.  So they waved again, but then Brandon was suddenly shy and started hiding.  We took some pretty cool pictures of Brandon standing on the observation deck window until the security guard told us to have him get down, because he was afraid he would fall out of the window (I was holding onto him, so I wasn’t worried, but I guess we were scaring the security guard).
