This morning, while I was getting ready, I thought both kids were still asleep. Dave left our room after getting ready, and went to say goodbye. Turns out both kids were in Brandon’s room, playing nicely. Peyton came in later, and I bent down to change her (after congratulating her for sleeping in her own bed, all night long). I touched her shorts, and they were wet. I pulled them off, only to reveal nakedness. It surprised me. I asked her, “Where’s your diaper?” She said, “I took it off.” I asked her, “Why did you take it off?” She replied, “Cuz it was wet!” Duh. But of course you did. Then I asked her where it was. She said, “In bruddah’s room.” I followed her into Brandon’s room, and sure enough, limp, torn off pull-up. I took it and threw it away, and proceeded to change the rest of her clothes. Later, after breakfast, I took her back upstairs to brush her teeth. As we passed by her room, on the way back down, she quietly told me, “My bed is wet.” I almost didn’t hear her, then she repeated, “My bed is wet.” I brought her into the room, and made her tell me where. I used to sniff with Brandon’s bed, but now I make the kids sniff (it’s their pee after all). She didn’t have to sniff; she knew exactly where it was wet. I felt it, and quickly stripped the sheets off her bed. I didn’t want to forget and not change them later. As we were putting her clean sheets back on tonight, Peyton didn’t want to sleep on the bed. She chose to sleep on the floor, on top of the crib mattress at the foot of her bed, which is used to soften the blow should she fall off the end. She piled up all her animals, pillows, and blankets, and didn’t want to go back to the bed. Reminded me of when Mckayla did this before.
When Dave gives me a hug goodbye in the morning, at the request of the kids, they both chuckle, and turn away. Peyton’s newest response to seeing our PDA is to shout “RANGO!” I’m not sure why this is, other than it’s the newest movie advertised on DVR, and Brandon’s class saw it for movie day. But it’s just funny to hear her declare it whenever we hug.
Dave went out for a bike ride tonight, while I had Peyton doing puzzles, while Brandon was working in his workbook. I told him he needed to slow down and get ready for kindergarten. The teacher says he has nice penmanship when he tries and when he slows down. So, he was working carefully on his letters, filling in the blanks, and surveyed his letters and said, “Look, I’m READY for kindergarten!” He was doing a great job filling in the blank consonants, choosing the correct pictures that corresponded with short and long vowels, and reading the instructions that went along with each activity. I kept him involved with that for 30 minutes, while I had to challenge Peyton from a 16 piece table puzzle to a 35 piece floor puzzle. While we were working downstairs, one of the puzzles upstairs, which makes noise when you put the piece into it’s respective place (the ambulance piece will make a siren noise when the sensor is covered), sounded off. Peyton looked up, heard the noise, and said, “That go by itself.” She knew it was a bit spooky. I had to agree. Dave got home an hour and a half later, and put the kids to bed. Now I have to go pack. I realize I will be gone for 17 days! Oh my…
