Started out a bit early, as Brandon woke up with some nightmares in the middle of the night. We think that the radio is putting out Halloween advertisements for Disneyland, which is a bit scary, I must admit. So we ended up turning off his radio altogether. He came in to tell us, but we told him to go back to sleep in his room. He wasn’t satisfied with that, but he did leave. Peyton let us sleep the rest of the time, fortunately, but she did come in at her usual time this morning. Brandon woke up a little later, and looked pretty sleepy. The other day, Peyton woke Brandon up before he was ready, and he shouted from his room, “Still sleeping!” He sounded like me when I was in high school. I took Peyton to gym, and then when we got back, I wanted to make sure I got my walking/activity in for my work challenge, so I asked Dave to go walking to get my free coffee given to me for my birthday by the coffee company. So, we dragged Brandon (or that’s what it felt like), and walked to the coffee place. He whined, and I told him when we got there, he could get in the stroller. Peyton fell asleep in the stroller, but awoke when we got to the store. We picked up some lunch along the way, and we divided that 4 ways. We strolled back, and Brandon was very cheery now. The kids were all smiles and laughing and playing with each other. Then Dave headed off for a ride with Ted, while Brandon went to sleep right away. I thought he had slept in the stroller a bit, but definitely not enough to make it through our nighttime plans. So he fell asleep right away, while I had a harder time with Peyton. She had slept in the stroller, but not enough. She messed around in her bed, even though I was in there with her, and after it became evident she wasn’t going to sleep, my mission was to keep her from waking up Brandon. I did have some success for about an hour, then I heard him go potty. I came out to check things out, and I had to remind him about flushing the toilet. He snapped back, “But I’m still tired!” I repeated myself, and he came to his senses and flushed, washed, then went back to bed. I left him alone, then went back to check on him after another few minutes, and he was back to sleep! He ended up sleeping for a total of 2.5 hours! He must have been up for awhile in the middle of the night, as his naps NEVER last that long. Not even when he was a baby! After he woke up, I gave him a snack. We were getting ready to meet Dave up at the Kao’s to head over to the football game. The kids were showing their school spirit (well, our school spirit via the kids), and I packed the backpack full of entertainment and snacks. We pulled up to the Kao’s, and the dads had gone to get food, while the moms watched the kids. When the dads came back, we all ate, and cleaned up, pottied, and got ready to leave. Dave went to go put his bike in the car, and I was with Brandon. Suddenly, I realized Peyton wasn’t there (I had already given her a boo-boo on her forehead, as she was falling off the bathroom stool, when I pushed her against the sink to prevent her from falling. I was successful, but not before running her face into the edge of the sink, to which she responded, “Owww, Mommy!” I opened the door to outside, and I asked Dave if she was with him. He said no. Then I happened to see Marcus, so I asked him, “Where is Jie-jie?” He took me to Mckayla’s room, and we found her and Peyton playing together with legos. Brandon quickly inserted himself, too. Mckayla told me Marcus was too little to play with Legos. I wasn’t sure if he was small lego safe, but to be safe, I picked him up. We watched from afar, until Michelle came and told me he was okay with them. The kids played a bit together until the dads were all ready to go.
Parking was a bit of a challenge (read: FAR) since there was some kind of event/gala happening, taking up some of the available parking, but the weather was FABULOUS! The last time we went was midday and super hot. I had brought layers and layers for the kids, but it turned out, we didn’t need them. I did have a blanket, and the kids used it more for security than anything. Peyton was dressed in her cheerleader outfit, from last year, and it fit somewhat. The top was a bit short, which it was last year as well, but we made it work with a long-sleeved shirt underneath. When we first got there, she was very scared. She told me she wanted to leave. We sat right in the front row, with cheerleaders in front of us, almost at the goalline. This is Dave’s ploy and recruiting trip for Brandon. He definitely watched more of the dancing than the actual football game (Brandon, that is, though maybe applies to Dave as well). It was nice to sit in the first row, since we had a little more room to stretch out, and an unobstructed view. We basically wasted buying a seat for Peyton, since she sat on my lap for the first half. She didn’t want to watch, and faced me instead. After the first two quarters, she heard the announcer say, “UCLA”, and she looked at me in surprise and said, “UCLA, Mommy!” Yeah, she wasn’t paying attention at all. She shared some kettle corn with her brother and Mckayla, then some Cheerios and nuts. To her, this was the best part of the game. Come the second half, she was totally energized! She wanted down, just like Marcus, and was watching the dancing and shouting and having a great time, even though our team was not doing well at all. Marcus was really into the game, even from the beginning with the older ones could care less. He seemed to know when to cheer, taking the cues from the cheerleaders. Brandon and Mckayla both hung in there to when we were ready to leave, and then we had to walk back to the car. That was when Brandon melted down. It was 1030pm by this time, and it was a pretty long walk back. I tried to get him to stop thinking about how far it was, but all he wanted was to be carried like the other three kids. I finally gave in, and made a joke about carrying him, and carried him for maybe 2 intermittent blocks. It did lighten his mood, and he was able to make it back to the car with minimal complaints. It helped when we saw another family, and I whispered if he wanted to pass them (the parents were also in the process of picking up the little girl). He said he wanted to, so that helped me get him interested in walking, and not just pulling my arm off. By the time we got back to the car, Peyton and Marcus were sleeping. I think Mckayla was out, too. Brandon hung in there on the drive back, and we talked about his nightmares. He is worried about robbers. I told him I used to worry about that when I was little. I told him if it would make him feel better, we could turn on the alarm at night. I told him how it worked, and he felt better. He brushed his teeth, went straight to bed, though asked about a bath, and then reminded me to set the alarm. He’s such a worrywart, just like his Mommy! We had a good time, with the exception of seeing our poor team get a whipping. There’s always next time. Thanks to the Kao’s for having us over beforehand!!

Just took off my pedometer, which I had put on right before we left for the coffee place – 6 miles. I guess we didn’t have to go walking for coffee after all. I would have done plenty!
