This was Peyton’s description of what we did today. “Are we going pumpkin patching?” is what she asked in the car. We got up later than normal this morning, thanks to the late night game. Brandon didn’t wake up until 8am!! Peyton got up at 715am, and I did my best to keep her quiet until Brandon was up. I asked her to whisper and count quietly while I tried to sleep in. We all got ready, and headed up to the Kong’s for our third annual pumpkin patch trip. Matteo and Dave were still at swimming, and Roy Roy was still sleeping, but we managed to keep the kids from rummaging through Matteo’s toys while we chatted with Carolyn, who was making pumpkin muffins. Peyton and Brandon both sat in the bar stools, and waited patiently. In fact, Peyton just sat with her chin in her hands, listening to our conversation, while Brandon had his eye on the playroom. Matteo did come home, and was excited to see Brandon (it was a surprise for him). He immediately wanted to show him his car! Just like Brandon, always has a car in hand. We pottied, and headed out. The pumpkin patch seemed a bit smaller than last year, but the river of pumpkins was more organized. There was more of a variety of pumpkin colors this year – albinos, standard orange, and a variety of green ones. The kids were excited to hold them, but I told them if they wanted it, they’d have to carry it themselves. Hence, both kids had pumpkins that both could manage. Peyton was shopping around for her pumpkin, picking one up, carrying it for a bit, then when it got heavy, would drop it (I tried to get her to place it nicely), and find a new one. While finding pumpkins, Peyton told me she had to go pee. Of course, we were in the corn maze area, in the pumpkin river, and nowhere near the potties. Luckily, I had previously spotted where they were an scooped her up and made a beeline to the potties. Port a potties. Fabulous. But what was nice, I held her over the urinal, after confirming she just needed to pee. It worked like a charm, and we didn’t have to open the toilet lid. She has a thing for clean bathrooms, and that just wouldn’t have cut it. Also, not to mention risking losing her down the pot.
We finally all got our pumpkins, and headed to pay for them. Here’s what we got:
I picked the one second from the left, as Peyton had discarded it for hers (seen above on the left), while Brandon’s is the far right. Dave’s is the biggest, and he will use that to carve. Brandon likes his because it’s half green, half orange.
I liked mine (formerly Peyton’s), since it looks like an apple!

I’m going to upload more pics in a bit. Those above are from my phone.
We headed to lunch, and were able to chat a little before it was naptime for the kids. We headed to my dad’s, dropped Brandon off, and we went to run errands while Peyton slept in the car. Brandon was asleep when we got home, not so much to my amazement, as lately, when he’s tired, he’s tired. And he’d stayed up all night on the drive home last night. We hung out with my dad, then left before 5pm to start our evening routine. We knew both kids were tired, so we didn’t want to get further off routine. More pics to follow! Thanks to the Kong’s for a great outing!
In the spirit of harvesting, we got some green beans and a few cucumbers from the garden. Here they are (with a kid’s fork for reference):
And what Brandon planted at our family festival last week. We just transplanted it tonight so stay tuned to see what it will turn out to be. Good thing he’s inherited Dave’s green thumb:
