Ellie’s visit! Interesting responses

Today, Kat, Spencer and Ellie came over for a visit!  She is 10 months old, and this is our first time meeting her, all the way from Singapore.  This is Dave’s second time meeting her as he got to see her when she was about 6 months old on his business trip.  She is adorable, and had no stranger anxiety, even though her parents said she usually does.  She smiled at Peyton, Brandon and me, and looked up at Dave and started to cry.  He was the last to arrive, having gone grocery shopping while they had arrived.  Later, after being around him for awhile, she gave him smiles, too.  Brandon was happy to get Ellie some toys to play with, but he kept picking age-inappropriate ones.  He finally came down with his Duplos, and they were a hit with Ellie as she shared them from the box.  Peyton was a bit middle-child syndrome, having a problem with the baby.  She is used to being the baby of the family, and couldn’t handle Ellie taking Bullseye. She threw the legos down, and scattered them all over the floor.  I told her she had to clean up what she had thrown down, and she refused, so I sent her upstairs to her room.  When she was calm and willing to share, she came back down.  She cleaned up the pieces, and then joined us.  Ellie was very curious with Elmo on Peyton’s shirt, but Peyton didn’t really want Ellie touching her.  I held Ellie several times, and Peyton came around and clung to me, saying, “Mommy.”  I told Kathleen if Peyton could pee on me to mark her territory, she probably would.  I told Peyton that she was still my baby, and that I am just playing with Ellie.  It was easier when Dave came home, since Peyton had another parent to play with.  We all went outside, and Kathleen took Ellie’s socks off to play on the grass.  She didn’t want to put her feet on the grass, since it was prickly, and she did whatever she could to avoid it.  I remember Brandon did this too when faced with grass the first time in Maui.  He lifted up his feet to not step on it and didn’t want to be set down.  Once her socks were back on, Ellie did fine.  Brandon kept recruiting Spencer to play soccer with him.  Soon, Ellie was pulling at Kathleen’s shirt, and she went back inside to feed.  Peyton wanted to go inside too, and she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Ellie under the shield.  I think that made Peyton a bit jealous, too!  Since we weren’t able to eat dinner with them, Kathleen wanted to go for shaved ice instead.  We took them to the last place around here that we knew of.  Dave wanted to try a pumpkin one, and then our usual mixed fruit one.  But Kathleen and Spencer ordered the lychee one, so we had three of them!  Each one is ginormous, but now we had three!  We gave the kids mostly fruit, and a little ice.  We managed to finish them, with the exception of some ice that had melted into a slushie mess.  Ellie got fruit, too, and she was very happy about it.  We forgot to take pics, so I can’t really blame Dave for not doing so the last time he was in Singapore.  I’m really bad about remembering to do so.  Hopefully we’ll get to see her again as they are staying for a few weeks in the states before heading home, but they are also headed down to Cabo for Spencer’s brother’s birthday.

When I went in to hug Peyton before bed, I found her already tucked in like a burrito with her blanket.  It gets colder these nights, but she still refuses to wear many clothes. At least we have her keeping her clothes on and she doesn’t fight wearing pants now.  Before, she’d only wear shorts, and even then, sometimes she’d take them off.  Last week, she even wore these new socks, from Logan’s birthday party!  Today, those socks were dirty, so I offered her the fuzzy socks, which cannot be worn with shoes since they are so fuzzy.  Her response, “No, I’m good.”  Um, okay.

Both kids only slept for about an hour at nap, which is normal if not long for Brandon, but Peyton was the one who woke up first, thus waking Brandon, who came down still sleepy.  Flash forward to night time, where Peyton was asleep first.  We were talking in our room, betting to see if they were both asleep before we could head downstairs to watch TV.  We don’t usually start downstairs because of the light and possible noise from the TV.  I bet a quarter (yeah, big spender) that they were asleep.  Dave thought that may be true, but we may wake Peyton if she is only falling asleep, or if only recently asleep, as she is closest to our room.  Suddenly, Brandon came in, eyes still adjusting to our light as he opened the door, and said, “I don’t like to sleep.”  Both of us just stared at him.  I told him he didn’t have to sleep, he just had to go lie down in his room.  He left, without complaint, and I asked Dave, “Who doesn’t like to sleep?”
