Yet another busy weekend has come to a close. We headed out Thursday after swimming down to the happiest place on earth! Well, we headed to Dave’s parents, first, then a stop at the park. The ride down was uneventful, with Brandon telling us, “Look for Harris Ranch so people can go potty.” We ended up making it past this, given the kids were asleep by then, and stopped at a gas station further down. I turned around to see both kids with a sourpuss face, having been awoken by the lights. We got in without problems, and both kids went to bed without a fuss.
The next day started out early, 7am, as usual. We were packed and dressed for extreme cold, layering up 4 layers on top and 2 layers on the bottom for the kids and me. We also brought gear for rain, having heard it was cold down there. We hadn’t checked the weather beyond just looking out the window, which was a huge mistake, as when we got there, it was 75 degrees, if not warmer. Perfect weather, if not for the over-dressing part. We were also very surprised that Small World was open already! It wasn’t supposed to be opened until Monday, but I have a feeling we timed it just right, for the long weekend. I think we may have done that before, too. But the holiday decorations were already up as was the holiday music that was being piped all over the place. Absolutely magical. It never gets old for us 🙂 Especially, this time, as Peyton is more into the Small world experience, with the decorations. She was really taking it all in, and we loved seeing the expressions on her face. She caught us looking at her, and would have a sheepish grin on her face, but it was still fun for us. I took the kids on one ride, after Dave didn’t want to go. Initially we were headed for the Go Coaster, but changed our minds when we saw Alice. Actually, both kids agreed, so we changed course. Peyton had requested, and Brandon went along with it. I just don’t think they wanted to go on the roller coaster, as both had bailed in the past.
We later met up with The Shih’s and their friends, Audrey, Evan, and Derrick. Derrick had just started kindergarten, too, so all the older kids are roughly the same age. We had packed a lunch, and had eaten it soon after our arrival (never fails). We separated from the group for dinner, since the kids were really hungry, and I wanted to try a new restaurant that was serving Mediterranean food. We booked ourselves for the time share presentation the next morning. We wanted to see what it was all about. We headed back to the hotel to check in, and get a good night’s rest. Except Peyton didn’t get the hint. She cannot get settled in a hotel. At least not for the first night. Dave gave up on her, and I came back to share the bed with her after she fell off on Dave’s watch. We had furniture bolstering the bed, but somehow she still managed to take the plunge. She wasn’t hurt, and it was kind of funny to see her walk around the bed, back to Dave’s side to get picked back up.

Good thing we knew this, otherwise we would have dumped all of our gear. Saturday morning we got up and met up with Uncle Mike for breakfast. Brandon was completely comfortable, but Peyton gave her typical staredown. We ended up at Rainforest; the last time we were there, Peyton was teeny, tiny, 6 weeks, I believe. Brandon had been scared by the thunderstorms that happen every 30 minutes or so. When the first one went off, Brandon was fascinated. Peyton got closer to me, and requested to get back in the stroller, with her blanket. I held her hand, and she got through it. While Dave and Mike caught up, Peyton, Brandon and I played “I spy” with the animals swinging above. At the end of breakfast, I took Peyton to the potty, and while we walked back to meet the boys, we passed by the animal bar stools. It was only the lower half of the animal, but she recognized each one! We hung out with Mike a bit longer, then headed to our time share presentation. Brandon was happy to go to the kids’ center, not looking back at all, while Peyton had to stay with us, since she wasn’t 3. It was a good presentation, and we’d known a little bit about how it worked in the past. We were on the fence, much like our last presentation we’d attended with another company. Peyton made it a little of a challenge, pulling us in different directions, and trying to bolt out of the office on her own. We were run up against our lunch reservations with Dave’s parents and sister’s family, which gave us an out to get out of the presentation. We went to get Brandon who nicely cleaned up the toys he was playing with, without being asked, and got to go via van across the way. He wasn’t too hungry for lunch, while Peyton gobbled up her food. The difference was that he’d eaten the snacks in the kids’ room, teddy bear crackers and goldfish, while I told Peyton she had to wait. After lunch, we headed back to the park, for our first time that day. We’d been close to inside, but not quite. We hit up a few more rides, then Peyton fell asleep. By this time, Brandon was starving. He’d helped the other family clean up the rest of their snack (they hadn’t been with us at lunch). Like a trash can. It started to rain a little bit, so we geared up. We hung around to wait for Toy Story Mania to open, since it had been closed. Peyton had a blast, while Dave got a break, since Abby and Derrick went together, so Jeff and Brandon paired up. We noticed Brandon really stuck like glue to Uncle Jeff, which we noticed and attributed it to Jeff not yelling at him like we do. Abby had glued herself to Derrick’s family, probably for the same reason. But the kids were all happy for the time being, and all were getting along, so it worked out. I was trying to hang around for a showing of Aladdin, but Peyton told me she wanted to go on Haunted Mansion instead. I asked her if she was sure, having already been on it the day before, but she insisted she wanted to. The other two families were going in separate directions (the Shih’s were headed home), so we set out just the 4 of us. We headed across to the main park, and hit up the haunted mansion. There were no rides we needed our fast passes from the time share presentation for, so those were a bit of a waste. Later, Peyton said she wanted to go on Matterhorn. So we stood in line, as Brandon didn’t want to go. She bailed after 2 minutes, and while I put her back in the stroller, she started crying, whining that she wanted to go back to Matterhorn. I turned around, asking her again, and she nodded. The line was shorter, so that was helpful. She again balked when she was asked to be measured. She is well over the 35″ height requirement, but kept saying, “No, no” when we got into the sled. I strapped her in, strapped in myself, and as soon as I did, she calmed down, and relaxed into me. I told her I’d hold her tightly; my phone had died, so I couldn’t get video like I did with Brandon when he first went on it. He was much older, well over 3. The ride went well; I had imagined that she wouldn’t scream bloody murder like him. She didn’t make a sound. I covered her eyes with both appearances of the monster, but let her see the rest of the ride. It was dark by now, so there wasn’t much to see. At the end, when the ride dipped, she sunk down in the seat, with her hands up straight, looking directly up in my face. I didn’t look comfortable at all, so I sat her up, and held her against me. After the ride was done, she had a smile on her face. And one tear drop in her eye. I gave her a high ten, and told her she did it! Then I asked, “Want to do it again?” She immediately said, “No.” I guess I didn’t learn from making Brandon go on roller coasters too soon, but she wanted to go initially 🙂 We may be in for more Small World and Ariel as a result.
Some of the weekend funnies were that Brandon’s tooth was hurting him. I think I try to floss too hard, to get a problem area clean, and it made it irritated and a little bloody. In the hotel room, Brandon drew a picture of a set of teeth (his), and drew in a spot, labeling it “blud”, and arrows for his “tuth” and gum. He spelled gum right! He just wanted us to see what he was feeling. Today, on the ride home, Peyton was tiger momming herself. She wanted to practice counting. To 100. Yep, she went up by herself to 39, then needed help with 40 and every 10 thereafter. I just had to sound it out, then she knew what the next set was. She did this for the last 30 minutes of our trip.
Here’s the video from the car ride today.
