Last trip of the year

So, our passes were expiring on 12/30, so we wanted to make the most of our last few days.  We headed down South on Tuesday, leaving a little later than had expected.  Peyton woke up at her alarm clock’s usual 630am, but Dave wasn’t ready to get up.  So I picked her up, and she continued to sleep.  She is still on Hawaii time, so she didn’t mind snoozing.  We didn’t make it out of the house until about 10am or so, but making a stop to get some supplies before really heading out.  We didn’t get down there until about 4pm, which was perfect for check in.  We dropped off our stuff, then headed into the park.  We did Small World, and walked around.  Wednesday, we were intending to get up early, but again, that didn’t happen. Still Hawaiian time.  We really have no expectations when we go, so if it’s crowded, we just make the most of it.  We met up with Mike and Karen on this day.  Brandon LOVED having another two pairs of ears to listen to him.  In fact, he enjoyed walking and talking to them, while we had Peyton in the stroller.  They waited for Star Tours while the kids napped.  Both of them were out, but only for about 45 minutes for one (Brandon), and an hour for the other.  We went out of the park for Korean BBQ, and both kids ate a ton!  We couldn’t keep up the cooking demand for Peyton, as she was outpacing me!  She was free, so we definitely got our money’s worth out of her.  Brandon was only $5.99, and I don’t think he ate as much as Peyton.  He did want to try most of the food offered to him, and gave us his opinion.  He said the red bean soup was too “dry”, and when I didn’t wonder too long what he meant, as I tried it and agreed.  It was very “beany” and pasty in texture.  Karen told Brandon he should be in the food industry, just like his last year’s teachers.  He’s not a fan of grisly meat (he won’t eat it), and doesn’t like visible fat on meat (Karen and I were both cutting it off, too).  He definitely has his opinions on food.  It was funny how they were noticing how carefully he ate, not just scarfing it down (like he usually does), but actually tasting the food.  We headed back into the park after that, and had a sundae.  I was feeding the kids part of mine, and they were both like little birds awaiting their next snack from the Momma bird.  They each had their own spoons and took turns asking for more.  We left Mike and Karen, as it was already almost 11pm by the time we left!  That is definitely the latest we’ve ever stayed with the kids at the park.
The next day, we started out late again.  We had to get up by 930am, to still have breakfast in the hotel.  Dave took Brandon while I lounged around with Peyton.  Today, we decided to do some different things, like wait for the Jedi training.  We waited about an hour, eating our snacks, and looking around.  Brandon was even wearing his Lego Star Wars shirt for extra appeal factor.  We were having him practice his “Pick me!” and raising his hand (things we tell him NOT to do in school).  He almost bailed, at the last minute, saying, “I don’t want to do this,” but we encouraged him.  Last time, he and Abby stood up, but didn’t flail around, thus not getting picked.  This time, he was more ready.  Peyton didn’t want to stay, as she was scared.  She remembered what the show was about and who makes an appearance.  When the Jedi trainer appeared, he told the kids to remember what they were wearing to make selection easier.  Brandon was picked first!  Poor thing looked so little up there.  They gave him a cloak to wear, and stood him up on the stage, while they selected the other 20 or so children.  Then they handed him his very own light saber.  He had some difficulty “activating” it, but he managed okay.  While we were waiting, we were practicing his “lefts” and “rights”, so he knew what to do.  They practiced some more all together.  Then Darths Vader and Maul appeared.  Maul was on the floor while Vader was up on the stage.  All the kids looked the same in their cloaks, and I lost Brandon in the reorganization of Jedi trainees. We found him again, and he was in line to fight Vader!  Peyton was in my lap the entire time, with her hands on her ears.  In fact, I covered her eyes when Maul appeared.  He was totally scary, even to me.  He came right up to us and grimaced.  She probably would have peed her pants had she been watching.  But she was totally okay with me covering her up.  Brandon had some help from the trainer to battle Darth.  He looked pretty scared up there, and was pretty slow in his responses, which is unlike him.  He wasn’t the ball of energy he normally is, that’s for sure.  I think a lot of the time, he was looking for us to make sure we didn’t take off without him.  (I had done that earlier in the day, to teach him a lesson.  He didn’t notice I was gone for about 5 seconds, and when he did, he looked around frantically for me [I had gone to sit down on a bench with Peyton, while Dave was grabbing fast passes].  After another 5 seconds, when I thought he was going to run away, I shouted his name.  When he saw me, he started to cry, and put his head down in my lap.  I did teach him how important it was to watch where I was, and to make sure I was around.  After he had calmed down, he told me how he knew where the cast members were and he was going to tell them my phone number [also something we practice].)
After he was done with that, we asked the two of them to take a nap.  Peyton did so in no time.  In fact, Dave asked me how she fell asleep so quickly.  He had gone away to get water, and I just told her to sleep.  And she did!  Brandon was sleepy, but didn’t end up sleeping, just rested in the stroller.  Dave thought the parade was in 30 minutes, but I later told him it was 90 minutes.  Either way, we were going to wait, as we had great curbside seating.  Brandon was okay in the stroller, while Peyton continued to sleep.  Peyton slept until about 15 minutes to show time, at which time we took her to potty.  Brandon had already pottied by that time.  We saw two bands that were scheduled to make an appearance in the New Year’s day Rose Parade – a band from Japan, and the all city band from LA.  Both were impressive.  The parade finally started, and both kids seemed to enjoy it!  Peyton was pointing, shouting, and telling us all about what she was seeing.  Brandon seemed to be fading, but preferred to sit on the curb instead of in the stroller, as he could see better.  We went back after that, as it was pretty crowded, and the kids were tired.  They had a harder time falling asleep, since it wasn’t as late as the night before.  The next morning, Brandon was the last to get up.  I couldn’t believe it!  I hopped in the shower, while he was still asleep.  When I got out, I saw just Brandon left.  He was awake, but still groggy, watching TV.  I asked him where Dave and Peyton were.  He told me they went to the “cafeteria.”  So after Brandon got ready, we joined them.  It was our last day in the park for the year.  We were only planning to stay for a little while, since it had been so crowded, but on this day, it seemed the least busy of all.  Lots more people were checking out of our hotel as well.  Strange.  We left the park to eat some spring rolls, and our plan was to return and stay as long as we could, taking advantage of less crowds.  Brandon had been wanting to go on the subs, since we hadn’t done that yet.   He dislikes Small world now, but will go since we’re all going.  He says he doesn’t like the song because “It’s annoying.”  Sounds so much like a teenager!  We started in DCA first, to try to get on TSM, but the line was 45 minutes, even though world of color was going.  There was a holiday intro to the show, so we stayed to watch it.  In fact, we watched it from the boardwalk, so we saw it from behind the scenes.  It was a different vantage point.  We were going to go on the silly swings after they reopened, but Brandon was telling us “my brain hurts,” and that he felt like he was going to throw up.  We had been talking at Korean bbq about food poisoning, and how I would gladly be the one to take one for the team if it meant the kids never got food poisoning, having been through it with Brandon before.  So he hung out in the stroller while we watched the show, and then he felt worse when Dave was standing in line for a corn dog.  He was holding his nose, so I pushed him away.  We were going to go back to Dland side, but seeing Brandon that way, we decided to head out earlier than expected.  As we passed Ariel’s ride, we heard it was only 5 minutes!  Dave asked me if I wanted to take Peyton, while he walked Brandon back to the car. I would later take the tram with just Peyton.  So, I took Peyton on the ride, then we got stuck!  Only for a few minutes, but still.  It did give me a chance to snap a photo: After the ride, I took Peyton potty, and checked in with Dave.  We changed plans, and instead of having them wait in the car for us, they’d come get us at the hotel.  We got to the hotel in two minutes from the restroom (Dave couldn’t believe how fast it was), and we watched TV in the little chairs while we waited for Dave.

Peyton had time to reorganize the chairs, lining them all up in a row.  She wanted to sit on the rocking chair, but some bigger kids were there. When they left, she made her move and sat in one of them.  She got up, and this little Spanish speaking girl came over and sat down.  She tapped the chair next to her to tell her to sit.  It’s funny because the kids have both been saying, “Siéntete.”  The little girl was probably younger than Peyton, but around 2-ish.  Peyton did sit down, and then the girl asked her mom where Santa was.  The mom told the girl that Santa went “mimi’s.”  The mom then asked Peyton if she knew where Santa was (She asked in English).  Peyton didn’t answer, but I helped her out and said Santa was sleeping since he was so tired from all the work her did.  Then the girl and her mom left to go see Santa’s chair to prove to the girl that Santa was not there.  The mom said bye to Peyton, and they left.  I told Peyton it was time for us to go, as Daddy was coming.  She said, “No, I’m going to wait for my friend!”  I thought it was very cute she made a “friend” so quickly.  I told her where her friend went, and that we had to go find Daddy.  He was just pulling up as I got out there.  I opened up the door, and Brandon looked pale, and had a plastic bag in front of him.  Nothing in it, yet; Dave said Brandon was working hard at keeping it together.  After we got in the car, Peyton was being chatty, and Brandon covered his ears, and told her to be quiet.  She tried her hardest, but just wasn’t quiet at all.  We got up to the hotel, and Brandon didn’t run for the elevator to fight Peyton to push the buttons as he had all week long.  He went in to the bed, and just laid down.  I was afraid brushing his teeth would make him gag, so I just left it alone.  We got Peyton ready for bed, but she was still hyper.  Dave left to get Brandon some ginger ale, and when he came back, Brandon was asleep.  We let Peyton stay up longer, and then at some point, we heard Brandon giggling.  He sounded better, but still told me his brain hurt.  I then asked him to get up and brush his teeth.  He did look better, but he went back to sleep shortly after that.  This morning, he didn’t want to eat much breakfast, only half an English muffin.  We were headed out on the road after that, and he said he was feeling better, and it only hurt a little when he moved his head back and forth.  I told him not to do that, so he’d feel better.  He had some milk, and otherwise, not much else.  The ride home was uneventful, and we made it back in time to watch the second half of our bowl game.  Even though he wasn’t feeling well, Brandon stayed awake the entire ride home.  I slept a little as did Peyton, but Brandon just looked subdued.  It’s rare for him to look that way, so it’s a bit sad to see, but it makes for some quiet times.  We took a family nap during the day, while Dave watched the fourth quarter.  We watched the ball drop at 9pm, and then sent the kids to bed.  We are going to celebrate Peyton’s birthday with the family tomorrow, as well as my dad’s birthday.  I’m still not quite prepared for her birthday, realizing I should be bringing in treats on Tuesday, and goodie bags, and not ordering ahead of time a cake for her.  Her birthday just comes up too quickly!  And then nothing is open on the 1st!  I figure I’ll have many more years to plan ahead.  🙂
