May is in town, staying with Tracy, so we all went out Friday night for a fancy dinner courtesy of Tracy and her recent purchase of her new home. May had taken a later flight, so instead of me picking her up earlier in the day, Tracy went to get her. It was good timing, since I was able to get the kids picked up, and not have to subject May to two more kids when she’d just flown away from her own. I called them after Dave had gotten home, and both were at Tracy’s place already. Dave had brought home sea bass, probably to compensate for me not being there and to make me wish I was eating at home. The kids kept asking for more, so by the time they were done, there was no leftover fish. I didn’t want to sit at home and pick on green beans or whatever, so I wanted to leave right away. I’d already given Peyton her bath, so it was one less thing for Dave to do, thus not as much guilt-tripping. They were all eating when I left, completely happy, though Brandon thought he was accompanying me and started to put his shoes on. I had to break the bad news to him, but he got over it. I headed up to Tracy’s, and we hung out a bit until it was time to leave for dinner. The restaurant was a fancy steak house by our old condo, so essentially we were passing by our house, but it was still nice to be all together in the car. I’d never seen Tracy’s new place, so it was a good time for a tour. We got there and had to wait about 5 minutes. Even though it was very close to our condo, I’d never been in there. It was definitely not for the faint of heart when it comes to looking at meat. Many different cuts were displayed out in front, and all very “raw”. Reminded me of when we stop on our trips back and forth to LA at the cow place. We sat down, and it was so nice to not have to worry about anyone else. We all caught up with each other, and were so busy talking, the wait staff had to keep interrupting us to inform us about their menu and take our orders. They started us out with an amuse bouche, which was a duck fritter. I’m not a duck fan normally, but it was delicious! We decided on the seared foie gras, hamachi shots to start, there was a raspberry sorbet palate cleanser, and then each of us ordered a steak. YUM! For our sides, we chose the truffled mac and cheese and green beans to be just a little bit healthy. We shared a raspberry chocolate souffle, and the complementary dessert was a green apple cotton candy, with a trio of nougat, ginger snap and lemon shortbread cookies. I ended up eating only 1/2 the steak, which was still a lot, given it was 28 ounces. I had to laugh since we tell patients 3-4 ounces or the size of a deck of cards. I figured Dave would be happy to get part of my steak. I’d ordered the porterhouse, and it was yummy. I don’t think I’d ever had foie gras, or maybe not served “straight up”. I have to admit it was pretty decadent. I just had to not think about its origin, and just concentrate on how yummy it tasted. Apparently, it won’t be on the menus after later this year, as it will be illegal to serve. After we’d wrapped up dinner, we went back to Tracy’s house again. We chatted a bit more, then I realized it was 1am!! I don’t remember the last time I was having fun til that late! I knew I’d pay for it the next day, when the kids rolled around at 630am, but it was worth some good girl time! They are headed off to the city today, but Brandon’s first tee ball practice is today, so we’ll all be going to that. Luckily, it’s at the park where we normally play, so I’ll keep Peyton entertained at the structures, and come around here and there to see what the boys are doing.
I’m not normally one for food pictures (Dave doesn’t like it as it is distracting) but I couldn’t help it! I wanted to remember what we’d eaten. Only, we’d forgotten to take pics of the steak before digging in, so we only have the apps and dessert. Excuse the messy table, we were grubbin’!
