Sunday

This morning, Brandon was working on homework, and needed a bit of peace and quiet. I set out with Peyton to do just that. We went to get a few groceries and deposited a check at the bank. We got back, and then I had Brandon with me doing homework, while Peyton watched on. Brandon does much better with non-fiction than fiction in terms of reading comprehension. I recall not liking non-fiction much when I was younger, so good for him, trying to learn something new! He especially likes bugs and other animals. There are several nature-based books in his online reading database, so it suits him well. We headed out to the Japanese festival, and after looking for parking and walking to the festival, we found it was very crowded. We usually go to these things earlier in the day, and for good reason. It was around 1pm, and neither kid had napped yet. We stayed for only 15-20 minutes or so, just long enough to take a quick look around. Last year, we bought a book for Peyton, about the year of the Rat. I didn’t find Brandon’s year, but we did find the booth again, and they had Brandon’s book – the dog! So I got that for him, and it was signed by the author. The lines for the shave ice were too long, otherwise, Dave wanted to make up some for Brandon’s mishap yesterday. So instead, he asked where he wanted to go. Brandon responded, “Dim sum.” We weren’t sure that they’d have dim sum still since it was rather late, but we went anyways. I told Dave not to ask Peyton since I’d guessed what her answer would be about what she wanted to eat. Noodles. Dave did ask Peyton, and though I didn’t hear her answer, I heard Dave laugh and say, “Oh my goodness.” She repeated her answer, and it was indeed, “Noodles.” I know my daughter đŸ™‚ We were a bit surprised she was still awake, and hanging in there. It helped the kids were arguing over books in the back seat. We got to the restaurant and waited about 10 minutes before getting a table. We ordered our food instead of waiting for the carts, even though the food we’d wanted started passing us by. The kids each had their favorites, but both enjoyed the gailan. Brandon wanted a little oyster sauce (we’d asked for it on the side), and when I tried to give it to Peyton, too, she whined and asked for no sauce. Good for her! After they were full, we continued to talk to Peyton to keep her up. We made it back by about 230pm or so, and she went to her bed without a problem. Dave was thinking about going riding with Ted, as they’d discussed yesterday after their ride, but then texted and asked them just to come over for dinner instead. They did that around 5pm. I was supposed to go to a dinner with the high school friends (our bimonthly event), but it had been a long day, and I’d prefer to hang out at home especially knowing that the kids would be coming over. We had an easy dinner of burgers and dogs, and the three older kids played reasonably well together. In fact, they were all playing together after dinner, with some games that I’d taken out that were age appropriate for a 3, 4 and a 6 year old. They had their own fun, and played their own game, but it was a huge mess. They had so much fun though making that mess. They all eventually helped clean it up, and miraculously, we found all 44 pieces of fruit! Later, Brandon and Mckayla in Peyton’s room, and I’d been watching them for awhile. They were playing nicely in the kitchen and with the pirate ship. I know, weird in the same sentence. I went back to see what the younger two were doing. Peyton was playing with the Beyblades, and Marcus had been watching Mickey and Chuggington. We heard giggling for the most part, then suddenly, crying. Brandon came down first, with a guilty look on his face and a smile, never a good combo. Apparently, it got a bit rough, as there was a food fight (it was plastic food), and Mckayla got a sandwich to the head. Brandon was told to get her some ice, and he applied it to her head. Both started giggling shortly after, but there was a bump on Mckayla’s head. Brandon was then sent for his bath, while the other three got some watermelon. Marcus wasn’t too interested in it, but later changed his mind. The three kids then made their way outside, playing with all the tennis balls that we’ve been using for Brandon’s t-ball practice. The tennis balls are lighter to throw, and also safer to catch, making it easier for him to practice without having a sore arm or catching one in the face. We cleaned up the balls, then the Kao’s headed out. Peyton was given a bath, while Brandon finished up with his teeth and then off to bed. One day, we will be brave enough to have all OS’ers over. We’ll have to spill outside, since we definitely don’t have enough living room space for the 7 and counting kids under 6! Hopefully it will be a zero injury day.
