We went to gymnastics this morning, and my mom wasn’t quite ready, so we had to leave her behind. I didn’t want Peyton to be late to her class, since she gets weirded out about being late. I came home, and Brandon and Dave went to t-ball warmups, while the girls hung out at home for awhile. We later joined them, and we saw that it was coach-pitch now, and no longer off the tee! That’s why Brandon had wanted to stay later and practice some! He has friends on almost every opposing team, and even though we didn’t know the opposite team, he did. This guy was good. Shane caught a pop-fly, which is unheard of in t-ball! We had to leave before the end of the game, but we got to see Brandon hit in all 3 innings. Here’s some video I caught before I left.
The first one is Brandon’s “home run” hit. At the end of each inning, one batter is designated the home run hitter. That means his at bat clears the bases. This is the first I’ve seen, and my mom was there, too! I think Brandon was proud to have Grandma in attendance.
The second one, he roped a ball down just outside the first base line. He popped it up when he did make contact, but I’m glad he made contact! If after 8 pitches or so the kids don’t make contact, they get out the tee. The kids are disappointed when this happens.
We headed over to Rima’s house for Selina’s bridal shower. We were one of the last there to arrive. Peyton took a good 45 minute nap, but it was not enough for her. She was her usual shy self when she got there, but she warmed up after she’d eaten. She wasn’t that hungry, so she picked at her food. She was having fun with the games. There were a series of numbers passed out, 1-27. Each player got a number. Then, there was a list of questions asked of Greg, and Selina was to answer them. However many she got right, the person with that number was the winner. We each got one number, including Peyton, since they had extra numbers. She was excited to be holding on to one. She didn’t win, but my mom did, and she was just as excited for her. Next came dressing the bride up in TP. She didn’t want to be the bride, so we just watched, and she had fun with that. Another little girl agreed to be one of the brides, and she was adorable. And of course, won! Peyton just had fun being with all the girls. She even sat with me for the opening of all the presents! She then met Austin, who just turned 10. She treated him like she would her own big brother, squeezing onto the chair with him, and generally poking at him. He’s the younger brother, and not used to it, but was very patient with her. Later, he got her and Chase to chase after a piece of string. I told Austin it was like having a couple of cats! The little kids were having so much fun! The party was thinning by that time, and Auntie Carolyn was saying how different Peyton was now. Her true self was out now, as she was giggling, laughing, and having a great time. I think the cake helped some. I’d scraped off all the frosting, but she managed to lick off all that remained on the fork and plate. We left at about 430pm, and Peyton talked the entire way back. My mom told her to take another nap, and she said, “I’m not tired!” When we got home, about an hour later, she just hung out with my mom. I wanted to get her changed and out of her luau gear and into jammies. She started to cry, since she knew it was the beginning of the end. I asked her if she wanted me or Daddy. Since Daddy wasn’t home, it wasn’t really an option, but still, she didn’t take it. I gave her a bath, with some tears, but not many. I toweled her off, and she started crying again for some random reason. I knew she was tired, but I wasn’t giving in to a tantrum. I left her pull up and pants out, after I’d helped her with the shirt. I told her when she was ready to eat, she’d put on the pull up and pants and come downstairs. I went to tell my mom what was going on, when I heard crying coming down the stairs. I expected half naked Peyton to be walking down, but was pleasantly surprised to see fully jammied Peyton. She came down, and I started asking her a series of questions: 1) Do you want to write your name first or eat? (Name). 2) Do you want to write it 3 or 4 times (Three) 3) Do you want cold or hot salmon? (cold) 4) Do you want it in the pink bowl or fishy bowl (Nemo). I’d bombarded her with so many choices, she’d stopped long enough with each to stop crying altogether. I wanted to get her fed quickly, so I could get her medicine in. We finished the writing practice (something she looks forward to) and dinner all within less than 30 minutes, which is a record for her. She even ate the last piece of Dave’s watermelon. I asked her, “When Daddy asks who ate the last piece of watermelon, what are you going to say? Are you going to tell him I ate it or you ate it?” She said, “I ate it.” So I told her to go ahead. My mom left shortly after, knowing Peyton was going to sleep. The rest of the bedtime routine went without a hitch. These are all the tricks we were told would help, but never did. Luckily, they work with #2. She was in bed, when Brandon and Dave arrived. Ugh. Perfect timing. No sooner did they come in the door, Peyton had to come out. Brandon came over to me, while Dave went up. I asked Brandon how his day had gone. He and Dave went to a baseball clinic and then a minor league baseball game. He looked so tired. Both kids are absolute criers when they are tired. Brandon immediately asked where my mom was, and I told her she’d gone home, just 5 minutes before he came home. He burst out in tears, so much so, that I called her and had her talk to him. He felt a little better, at least enough to wish her good night, and get him going to take a bath. He was a slobbery mess though. When he was all cleaned up, he waited patiently for me to give him a hug. I told him I’d missed him today, and he said, “Yeah, I didn’t see you like more than half a day!” Awww…so sweet. Dave came down and told me what Peyton had to him. She confessed to eating his watermelon. He said, “Stay in your bed, or no more watermelon.” She then burst into tears. It’s only 8pm, but both kids have had super long days. Tomorrow, we’ll all get to spend time together and wind down another week.

Chase and Peyton playing with the string that Austin had. This was better than the two of them running around the house. Earlier today, the kids were playing with their paper bag sock monkeys from Naomi’s party. I love how Peyton’s superhero one looks just like Brandon’s, but has a ribbon in her hair just because she’s a she.
