Exhausted

After going in to work early, so that I could leave early, while still putting in my full hours (we walked 40 minutes at lunch, too), I pulled single parent duty for the game tonight. I knew it would be challenging keeping the little one entertained, but I gave it my best attempt. I’d brought her apple chips, but within 5 minutes, she was playing in the dirt, thus destroying any chance of her feeding herself. I also wanted to make the apple chips last, so I was doing a bit of rationing. The workbook pages from school did not do a bit of good, as she wanted to draw in the dirt instead. At least I convinced her to stay with me, as she was set on running off either in the opposite team’s direction, toward the field, or away from us altogether. Yeah, she caused a scene, and yeah, all the kids and parents were looking at her, but she finally did calm down to watch Brandon play. He was the home run hitter again in the second inning, but I wasn’t able to capture it without Peyton as his soundtrack. He also wasn’t behaving well and I had to lay down some law from behind the benches. I think the other kids were shocked to hear from me, since I’ve never really talked around them at all. The coaches were busy, so I felt it was my place to talk to him. The game didn’t start until 6pm, and we didn’t end until 715pm, seriously hampering my chances of getting him to bed at his usual bedtime. I considered going to IN n Out, but thought better of it, as they both know we only eat fast food when we’re on the road. I got home, had Brandon take a bath, while I got Peyton started on frozen veggies (which she requested), then warmed up some salmon and pulled pork. After Brandon was done, I had him eating, too, while Peyton was almost done. I told Brandon to finish up and come upstairs, knowing he doesn’t like being alone, while I took Peyton up to give her a bath. He probably scarfed down his food just to not be alone. I told him to brush his teeth, while I got her changed. I set her up with her clothes, while I went back to Brandon for round #2 of his brushing. After seeing the dentist last week, he reminded me that we should be brushing Brandon, too, and probably until the age of 12 since boys are notorious for not being thorough. Don’t I know that’s the truth! After brushing Brandon, I sent him to his room to wait for floss and fluoride, while Peyton was done with her clothes and awaiting the same. I did Brandon first, tucked him in, then headed back to Peyton. Both kids were down by 8pm. Dave walked through the door 5 minutes later. Let’s hope both kids get a good night’s rest, despite it starting later than usual. Now, it’s time for me to burn some calories 🙂 I’m holding off running until I’m completely better, but I’ll be stepping as I did last night in front of the TV. I went long enough, and managed to burn 300 calories. Let’s see how motivated I am tonight. At least tomorrow’s my Friday.
