Day 1

Well, it’s almost been 24 hours, and we made it through Day 1. Early this morning while it was still dark, I heard Peyton scream, “MOMMY!” It was blood-curdling, and it awoke me from deep sleep. We normally sleep with the doors closed, since it’s known Peyton is a yeller, but I wanted to keep it open to better hear what’s going on. Well, it was loud and clear, and another one of her random outbursts that mean nothing. She didn’t wake up, but I sure did. I couldn’t totally go back to sleep, as it jolted me awake, and I was a little pumped up. The alarm had already been set, and I even had a reminder on the bathroom counter to disarm in the morning. The next thing I remember is seeing Brandon’s light on. I squinted at my alarm to see what time it was. It was 6am sharp. I thought I heard whispering, meaning that Peyton was over there, too, so I yelled at Brandon to turn off the light. He did. I didn’t hear any more whispering, so I got up to inspect, and discovered Peyton still in bed. Since Brandon had had a rough night the night before, I climbed into bed with him. He told me he was still tired, so I told him he should rest so he could get his greens. After about 10 minutes, she staggered into Brandon’s room. She was very groggy, and I lifted her up with me. We stayed that way for a few minutes, then I sprung up and took her with me. Brandon changed and got ready, and then I did the same. They were eating breakfast by 650am, and done by 705am. We were out the door shortly after brushing teeth. I dropped Brandon off first as always, and he was the first to arrive. The girls at CDC noticed his haircut, which made him smile. We got to Peyton’s school by 730am, and then I headed to work, sitting down by 745am. I caught up on everything, and didn’t feel rushed. I left to pick Peyton up by 415pm, then did my reverse commute to get Brandon. We were home by 5pm, when Dave called. I’d texted him to tell him about Brandon’s 15 greens (yay!) and about him getting yelled at by another parent as he called her kid a name. CDC said she was very upset, and demanded he apologize to her kid. Brandon said the offended kid never said to stop, which I find to be a recurring theme. Instead of yelling at him, I think they should be conflict-resolving with their child to show both of them how to behave. Otherwise, she is showing both her kid and Brandon that she lost her cool, and yelled. In any case, I talked to Brandon about it; he said it wouldn’t happen again, and I told him I didn’t need him to say it, but he just needed not do it. I fed them dinner, and since Brandon made good on his 15 greens, he got a BB episode. I bathed Peyton first, while Brandon played a bit, then it was his turn. He brought a book home from school for his journal in 2 days, and he read it to Peyton. It was about a dandelion seed, and it appeared on each page. Brandon asked Peyton to find it on each page, then checked her. He was totally playing the part of teacher Brandon. After brushing and flossing teeth, both kids were tucked in. It’s 7pm. I don’t need them to sleep (though they need rest), but I need quiet. I told Peyton that she kept Daddy’s blanket last night, since she stayed in her bed all night long. I told her, “You fell asleep so quickly last night!” She said, “Yeah, I was sooooo tired,” then giggled. We’ll see if I can get another 11 hours of sleep out of her and 10 hours out of Brandon! Stay tuned for Peyton’s rock-a-bye baby.
