Day #3

Today was Brandon’s field trip, and he was being really strict, reminding me of all the rules. He needed a sack lunch, he needed to go to sleep, and he needed to wear his walk a thon t-shirt. He freaked out because I gave him a non-disposable water bottle, since he was supposed to bring only disposable things. We didn’t have any other kinds of water, as Dave drank them all, so he was either to carry his bottle or have nothing at all. I didn’t care so much if the bottle didn’t come home (it was free), but of course, I didn’t tell him that since I don’t like to be wasteful! He told me he was going by bus, and I went with it and didn’t get him his car seat. We gave him a hug goodbye, then it was Peyton’s turn. We got to school in record time – 10 minutes! I think we got every green light. So even though we left a little later, I still got to work at 745am. Today went by fast, considering I took a field trip with my boss to my other work site. I had already taken lunch before that, so my morning flew by. I kept an eye on the time for the afternoon, too, so that I could make it out on time. I got Peyton first, then headed back for Brandon. Peyton was pretty subdued in the car, and said, “It’s so quiet in here.” Neither of us were talking prior to her saying that, and I asked her why that was. She said, “Because none of us is talking.” She also took the opportunity to give me her “mad” face. She even told me, “Mommy, this is my mad face,” and then gave me her stone cold glare. I think she practices it, she’s that good at it! Brandon and I are too giggly to look that mad, which is why I have to really compose when I get angry with them. When I can’t do it, I have to look away, and usually, that’s when Dave takes over. So far, since I’ve been tired enough, I look the way I sound. Brandon came over to us when he saw we’d arrived at CDC. We all went home, and I didn’t get his check in/check out because of the field trip. I later realized I’d left the paper at home because Brandon told me no backpacks either. We came home, had dinner, and I let him watch an episode of Beys from yesterday’s 14, since we stayed out later than usual. It gave me an opportunity to clean up the dishes and get dinner ready. Both came to the table after 22 minutes (the episode), and asked me to turn off the TV. We had NO spills (all week, in fact!), which is unusual. Usually someone spills something somewhere. And no pee accidents (Peyton has been known to get messy on occasion during dinner). After dinner, Brandon had to go poop, as did Peyton. So they both did their business, then one after the other, they went for a bath. Since Peyton was done with the potty, but Brandon wasn’t done with the bath, I stripped her down and got her ready. I didn’t want her to touch anything, so I asked her to count with me while I unloaded the dryer. We got up to 150 before Brandon was done. She had her hands in the air, stark naked, and counting happily along with me. I managed to get the clothes sorted and then got her into the bath while Brandon changed. After the baths, we headed down to do Brandon’s homework. Feeling left out, Peyton asked to do her kindergarten book, saying she needs help with her “N”s. So, we got both journal and kindergarten book, and each kid got a pencil. Brandon did his journal and colored his picture, while Peyton practiced her name and counted and colored objects. After that, it was brushing teeth, and book time. The lights were out at 7pm, and since Brandon had stayed up later last night, and had a long day today (their field trip was where we had Naomi’s party!), he was done by 715pm. Peyton didn’t go to sleep until about 830pm, bothering me every step of the way. I think she peed 3 times in an hour. She probably doesn’t have to go, but just forcing herself to as a way to get out of her room. She lost her Daddy’s blanket awhile ago now. I’m happy that I made it through the work week, and happy to know that I could do it if push came to shove. My boss had told me before how having kids is like having the worst boss in the world. A boss that wakes you up in the middle of the night to go to work, that doesn’t care that you’ve been working all day long, but demands that you continue to work some more, that cries and whines, and barges in on you whenever. I told him that this week, I had two bosses and that my co-worker was out of town. He understood, but honestly, the bosses have been pretty lenient this week. They were definitely on Team Mommy!
