Mommy Daycare; Jumping

Dave had to leave for work after swimming.  Both kids had just showered up, and Peyton wanted to do her workbook. It worked out well since Brandon had gotten himself up to 70 sentences.  He has to learn he can’t talk back.  I offered him a way to reduce his sentences.  He was to do some math homework with me.  Homework isn’t supposed to be a punishment, but it certainly can be a reward!!  So, he’s doing 3 digit subtraction, including carrying numbers.  I even made some up to have him get more practice.  While we were working on it, Peyton was eating lunch.  We were talking about how 4 minus 5 (in the ones column) can’t happen, so you have to borrow 10 from the 10’s column.  Brandon stopped me and said, “Yes, you can take 5 away from 4. You just go negative.”  Touche, boy, touche.  He only received points when he was right, and did most of it by himself.  Halfway through his work, Peyton finished up lunch, and I sent her to her room to take a nap. She asked me if I was going with her, and I told her no.  She took her American Girl magazine up with her to her room. I went to check on her 15 minutes after she’d left. She was quietly sitting up on her bed, reading.  It was only about 1215pm, which is early for her nap time at school, but since she’d swam, I figured she’d be a little more tired.  Brandon kept whittling down his sentences (he’s at 30 now).  I went to check again just now, and she is passed out asleep.  Brandon’s eager to do more work to reduce the number he’d have to write, especially since I’d made it a long sentence when I thought he just had 10 to do.  (He earned them for swinging his shirt around and whipping his sister with it; something that he’s been warned about many times as he’s done this in the past and hit her in the eye).

Today was the last day of our swimming session. We’d missed last week, so the first session went by quickly.  The big kids got to jump off the diving board.  The other two kids in Brandon’s class were a bit hesitant, but Brandon showed no fear.  Maybe because he’d done it last year, and the other kids didn’t. They were better swimmers but still a bit afraid of the first plunge.  By the end, the kids were doing cannonballs!  Peyton demonstrated to her class how to float on her back.  They also did a dead man’s float which she loves to do, especially unattended, which gets her into trouble with the instructor!  Their class got to jump off the wall, but I know she wanted to go to the deep end like the other kids. Brandon told her she was too small, and maybe next year.
