This morning, we went to walk for a free coffee. There was a deal to get an oatmeal or pastry along with a free coffee, so we drove halfway, then walked the rest (about a mile one way). We didn’t have a stroller, so Peyton was on her own. She’s walked further, to Brandon’s school before, but this was before breakfast, so I think she was crabby. She did okay when I took her mind off things, like doing the ride riddles, or playing “I spy,” but when she was thinking about it, she would whine. And then she would just sit down! I compromised with her and told her I’d carry her across the streets, and she agreed. When we got there, Dave and Brandon were already there. Brandon didn’t complain at all, and he did great! Here’s a picture in happier times, when she was happy to walk on her own:
They had already ordered their stuff, and Brandon had gotten oatmeal. We ordered next, and I got a low fat ginger pumpkin muffin to try that instead. We met the boys outside, and I gave some to Peyton, and Brandon wanted to try it, too. I gave him a bite, then he said, “There’s ginger in there.” I hadn’t mentioned anything about it! He still has the knack of knowing ingredients! It helps that he likes it, especially raw like in Japanese food. We walked further to the grocery store to get another oatmeal, since Peyton wanted more food (I didn’t give her that much of the muffin). We then split an oatmeal there. We walked back, again more groaning from Peyton, but we made it. We got home and the kids played. Peyton wanted to do work, so we went through Brandon’s kindergarten words. Here’s her video from that. She’s got most of them! (Dave’s teaching Brandon chess in the background. He got the basic moves down, now just needs to work on his strategy):

When I got home, Dave took off to go to the game. My uncle, also an LA fan, went with him. Both kids and I watched a little TV, then we turned everything off to do homework. Brandon read for 20 minutes, then did his math facts for 10 minutes. Peyton read all 10 BOB books, and practiced the sight words. We had some chicken for dinner, along with some salad. I got the kids showered and we were watching the game and trying to spot Daddy. Brandon said, “Daddy was on tv before!” I told him he wasn’t, then he said, “Yeah, when we were in Tahoe. With Santa.” Peyton chimed in, “But I didn’t like Santa.” I then remembered our little clip that made the local news last Christmas! Brandon had remembered correctly 🙂 We played Candyland and Sequence before I sent them to bed by 7pm. It’s been quiet ever since, but I’ve just been getting ready for the week to start again.
Here’s a picture earlier of Peyton rolling around with a blanket and pillow combo my mom got her at a Hawaiian festival:
She was watching TV like this.
