Homework, Maybe

Today, Dave picked Brandon up early from camp day (it was an inservice day for teachers) and met me at work for an appointment for Brandon. He’s doing well. We all went to pick up Peyton, leaving Dave’s car at work. Brandon got to see Ms Tarez, while Peyton was probably puzzled why all of us were there to get her. Dave got to meet Miss Daisy, whom I really like. Of course, she couldn’t replace Ms Christine, but she will be welcomed until her return. Dave grabbed her parent packet information, so I didn’t see it until later. We all left after washing up the kids, then headed out to eat. Brandon was hungry, and Peyton is always down for noodles. I thought the packet of information for Peyton was homework, so I was excited to tell her that she had homework to do. She rushed upstairs to sit at her small table (previously Brandon’s table), and was kicking her feet in excitement. She actually tipped herself over in her chair. I got her set up, then realized this was a sample of her actual homework which wouldn’t be distributed until October. I tried to explain to her that it was just pretend, but she just wanted to do it. The packet is intended for Monday distrubution and Friday return. She also didn’t understand that concept. She wanted to do the WHOLE thing! Since the sheets had “sample” written over it, and I wanted to give her something to do, I grabbed some workbooks. We leafed through some of those to find some pages that she hadn’t done yet. For more practice, I had her reading her own instructions word for word. We are going to be busy tomorrow night with parent class and PTA meeting, while my dad is pinch hitting for my mom to watch the kids. We won’t be able to devote our time to homework, and since today was an off day, we were banking time. Brandon’s already used his vocab words for this week into sentences, so we’ll turn that in later. I’m glad both kids are eager to get their homework done. Actually, Peyton wanted to finish the entire packet, more workbook pages, and didn’t want to take a bath! She was being difficult, until we removed the books altogether. Dave gave her a bath, while I worked on math facts with Brandon. He is getting a little faster every day. The goal is for him to finish all the triangles in 10 minutes. He was a few seconds shy today, but only because he didn’t know his goal until about 1-2 minutes were left, then he started to pick up his pace. We got both kids down by 730pm, then I left for the gym. Since it’s getting closer to the race, the required mileage is getting longer each night. The just means I don’t get back and ready to relax until at least 9pm. It’s definitely cutting into my blogging, relaxing, game-playing time. But it feels good!! Today, I just got another friend into the race, since there were more spots opened up today. Tina already booked tickets down to LA, so I couldn’t convince her to buy in. She’s planning next year.
