We woke up after eight which is a dream with our kids. We watched part of the Rose Parade while Dave and his mom went out shopping. By then, we’d gotten ready to go. We were planning on lunch with the family then heading to the park. Meg, Jeff, Abby and Penelope met us at the same fifty’s diner we had Peyton’ s birthday 2 years ago. They serve food on roller skates and we know they will all come out and sing. We torture our shy little girl, I know. Brandon sat with Abby while Peyton preferred to sit between both her parents. Penelope came up to our side of the table and looked like she wanted to sit with Peyton. They both agreed so we sat her next to Dave. Dave was soon surrounded by all four kids. Peyton started reading the new book we’d given the girls, then I finished before we lost Penelope’s attention, which Peyton kept for at least half of the book. Brandon and Abby chatted away, too. The food came out and Meg realized that the older two ordered the same thing while the younger two ordered the same thing. They hadn’t even discussed it with each other!! After the food was done, we waited for a little bit for the ladies to come over for Peyton’s birthday song. She was easily identified as the birthday girl since she was wearing the shirt my mom had gotten for her shortly after her last birthday. She was pretty expressionless for tthe song, but she did enjoy some of her ice cream sundae.
She shared some with her cousins but Brandon was still in his sweets ban for the fortune cookies he snuck at my mom’s house. We then said goodbye to the grandparents and headed to the park. I asked Peyton if she wanted to go to see Aladdin since it was about to start when we got into the park. She agreed and all eight of us got in line. I think the kids are better behaved around their cousins as they have someone else besides their siblings to keep company. From there we went around doing different variations of kids parents to go on rides. We all met up for dinner at 545 pm. It was a semi-surprise as Peyton had asked for dinner with Ariel instead of a party with her friends. She got a special photo with Ariel as we entered, then we were seated outside. The kids were given crowns, stickers and crayons to decorate. This was the first character dining experience for us, but Peyton was happy to see Cinderella, Jasmine, Aurora, and Snow White. She told me she had to go potty right as the first princess came out, but she was seated again as the first arrived. We enjoyed the food, and this time Peyton sat next to Abby, while i sat across. Brandon was next to Dave and me. While the dessert tray arrived, I had Peyton come on my side to take a photo. While she was headed back to her seat, I was helping Brandon get some fruit. At that moment, Peyton slipped off the chair and smacked her face on the foot of the wrought iron table. She immediately started wailing when I picked her up to assess the damage. It looked like a cut but no blood above her lid. It looked like a pinched area. We iced her up bit she complained it was too cold. Luckily there was no dental involvement, and it wasn’t worse. We ended with Soarin’ but I stayed with Peyton. We talked to my mom instead. She told her what happened to her face and recounted all the princesses she met. We then all headed out. We got back and Dave’s parents were still out. We were all so pooped we didn’t even hear them come back.
Our plan was to head back to the park after breakfast. We stopped for some fried rice that was humongous and would eventually feed us all day long! The park was definitely more crowded as it there were Rose Bowl attendees visible. We did see the Yee family as well as Stephanie and Victor. We’d “seen” them on FB but we passed ny on Main Street. We picked up some fast passes but Indiana Jones wasn’t until eight. Since it was so crowded we decided on a whim to leave and headed west. Westwood more specifically. We headed to check out the new basketball arena. Lucky for us, there was an exhibition volleyball game so it was open. We took a look in the lobby and just wandered about. We were headed out to take a photo of Coach’s statue outside when Dave saw what appeared to be Peyton’s favorite player, but he had on a hoodie so it was hard to tell. After stalking them a bit and egging the kids on, who were being a bit obvious, Dave mustered up the courage. He was going to send me in there since I was a woman, but I’ve always been shy like that. Dave approached the two players and assitant coach to ask for a photo. Shabazz flipped his hoodie down. We sent Brandon in first then Peyton reluctantly followed. The guys were laughing at her saying, “But these guys are too big!!” on her behalf. She said not a word, but did go. I handed my phone for save to take the picture not wanting to mess it up. Dave had pared down our loot that day so we didn’t have our big camera. The coach asked if we were going to go to the game the next day. We told him we were trying. We wished them a happy new year and thanked them. Dave was giddy. Peyton got back to the car and she immediately said, “Shabazzz!!” Oh what we would’ve given to have her have said that in the car. She knows his number and loves saying his name. We went to meet up with the Shih’s again since we were on the westside. They were finishing up dinner so we met briefly in the restaurant and headed over to the shave yogurt place. Brandon had a pretzel while Peyton shared some of mine and Dave’s. Brandon was a bit more upset about his ban this night. After dessert, we stopped next door to another “celebrity” sighting. This was a brick and mortar version of a food truck featured on a show. They won their season of the race, and two of the chefs were working that night. It took me a moment to realize why Dave was so interested to try the food. It was pretty good. We headed back to the park and since it was 930 there weren’t any parking attendants!! We arrived just as the fireworks were starting. Since its the holiday ones we stayed to watch. Normally we don’t make it a point to watch, but it snows at the end and smells like gingerbread!! I carried Peyton the whole time since she wanted her ears covered. She was concerned about the snow getting on me and wiped off what she could. We headed to Small World since the lines were too long during the day. Since the fireworks had just ended there, it was a little chaotic but took us just 15 minutes to get through the line. Then we separated and did our respective fast pass rides. I had enough time to take Peyton on Alice and the cars. Peyton asked if we could do tea cups. I told her she’d already done it with daddy and Brandon. She said, “But I didn’t do it with you. And we didn’t go yesterday.” Even with her strong arguments, I told her I don’t like the ride as it makes me sick. She then stopped asking about it. We met up with the boys, and headed out. Another late night!!

The next morning, Dave bought four tickets to that night’s game. We decided to take it easy since tip off was 8pm. We had dim sim with the Shih’s before their drive home. Dave’s parents headed out for the day which left us to take a long nap. Brandon slept for about an hour (long for him) while Peyton and I slept for over two hours. We got up and headed west again. We walked around the area Dave and I knew in college. We found a chicken and waffle place and called Mike to meet up with us. I ordered a salad amd Dave had a breast and waffle. Peyton had a kids meal while we ordered Brandon a roasted chicken waffle sandwich. I didn’t want to hear him complain about being hungry at the game and then eat junk there so we got him a full meal. The thing was huge!! Two full Belgian waffles sandwiching a huge chicken breast with lettuce and tomato. I had him eat a quarter at a time to make sure he got protein along with his carbs. When Brandon saw it, he said, “THIS is the biggest kid meal I’ve ever seen!” We told him it wasn’t a kid meal. So his obvious thought was “I got a parent meal?” Mike saw how huge it was and Brandon told him, “I got a parent meal!!” He was so proud. He told him, “I’m a really good eater.” He hears it so often, I think it’s just stuck now. Mike saw there was cheese and asked Brandon about it. Brandon told him, “Yeah, it’s gouda!” Mike said, “Wait, you know what gouda is? How do you know what gouda is?” Brandon replied, “Because I’ve had it before,” matter of factly. Mike ended up joining us for the game. He sat in the same section! Dave was told he couldn’t bring his SLR camera in so we thought he had to run back to the car. There is a restriction on how big a camera you can bring in. So Mike, the kids and I strolled around. Mike was exploring but since the kids had already done that, we saw the spirit squad. They asked if we wanted to take a photo with the crew. Again, Brandon took the lead while Peyton followed. We walked further and found the other half, but this time with Joe Bruin. This time Peyton was ready. We’d lost Mike at this time, and since it was crowded, I headed to our seats. I didn’t want to lose either kid. We found our seats and soon Mike and Dave found us. We had about 30 minutes to look around, but the kids were enjoying watching warmups. They wanted to know all the players numbers. Brandon wasn’t initially thrilled to go, telling us he wanted to stay at home. We told him he had to go since no one was at home. He told is the whole way there he didn’t want to go, but once we were there, he was so into it! He cheered appropriately and when Peyton clapped for a CAL basket, he said “What, you’re cheering for CAL? What are you doing?” Not only was he cheering, he was getting pretty competitive, pumping his fist and being very emphatic. Peyton enjoyed the 8-clap as well as figuring out which players were scoring. She knows Kyle Anderson, and Dave can’t figure out how
They now know Tony Parker, and the Wear twins. Of course, they cheered for Shabazz. We finished off the game and when we’d go ourselves, we stayed until the scoring summary with claps for each point and the alma mater. Dave stood up to walk out, but Peyton turned to the main aisle and said, “It’s not over yet!” She stood watching at the top of the next section below us. She was watching tge cheerleaders. I’d asked her earlier what she’d choose – cheerleading or basketball. She whispered cheerleading with a grin. So we walked down to just above the student section which was the lowest we could go. The kids saw Joe again and were trying to get his attention. He was on the floor below with the cheerleaders. He finally heard their attempts and gave us a nod. He looked like he held up a paw to say wait but we couldn’t tell. He was sidetracked by some other kids on the floor asking for pictures but thenade his way up the student section. He was tall enough that we were still able to take a photo of him with the kids. They were so excited they got a solo picture with him!! With that and the win, we enjoyed our walk back to the car. We said goodbye to Mike and headed home. We had to make detour back since we’d forgotten Dave’s camera but got home by midnight. We’d been prepping the kids for bed before heading out each night, brushing teeth in the car and diapering Peyton. It makes it easy to transport them into the house. Brandon usually wakes up while Peyton sleeps like a rock. This morning, we ate a quick breakfast then headed out to the park again. We divided and conquered again, with Dave and Brandon waiting an hour for Space while Peyton and I did Buzz and rockets. We managed to pick up fast passes for haunted mansion and autopia in the meantime. Peyton is doing quite a bit of walking these days. It makes it a little easier to park the stroller in one area and become more mobile especially as it is to crowded with a stroller. We met the boys for lunch. We took the train to haunted mansion and stacked our fast passes in to go together. We went quickly on pooh since it was 5 minutes. Then we split up again for Dave to take Peyton on Star Tours. We weren’t sure she’d make it through, but she assured us she wouldn’t chicken out. Brandon was upset since he initially told Dave he didn’t want to go but upon finding out that Peyton was going to go, changed his mind. I took him to DCA instead. I got a dark chocolate sundae and ended his ban. We talked about sneaking food and how we give him opportunity to eat sweets but at appropriate times. Dave met us and I gave Peyton the other half of the 86% chocolate square I’d given Brandon. Her response was, “This chocolate is not good.” She is correct as that high of a cocoa percentage is like eating a brown crayon. I didn’t want to wait another hour for Brandon to go on Screamin’ not to mention he gets tossed around like a rag doll. So we headed out. We ate dinner with Dave’s parents before heading out at 730. We did have to delay again as Brandon had too much water at dinner. He’d gone at dinner then had to go again. Since we’d gotten mad at him, when I asked Peyton if she had to go again too, she quickly nodded. We hadn’t even left Dave’s hometown!! It gave Dave an excuse to try half and half. We’ll be home shortly then I’ll be getting up for Peyton’s ballet class tomorrow. Hopefully she cooperates. I told the kids in the car, “Whoever is the most quiet gets to play skylanders first.” I’ve never heard these two quiet down as fast as they both did.
P.S. Brandon seems to have caught a cold lately. I figured it was inevitable with all that we’ve been exposed to and our hectic schedule. Hopefully he’ll fully recover before school starts again. He just has a runny nose for now. He’s still as energetic as ever but now a bit more drippy.
Happy Birthday Peyton! Sounds like she had a wonderful celebration (except the fall)!
