So today was supposedly my day off, but that just means “more work” at home. We started our day by taking Brandon to school. That meant that the kids ate breakfast at home first. Peyton watched the flag salute, then there was supposed to be coffee with the principal on my calendar, but the principal wasn’t there today. So, we headed out with just Peyton. She helped me pick a cookie variety for her school friends. We chose chocolate chip and made sure there were no nut products in there. Then, we stopped by the dollar store and found some decks of cards to fill in the goodie bags. I kept the one sight words pack for Peyton. I dropped her off at school, and she was happy go lucky until we got to her classroom. Then she froze. I had to push her in the classroom to avoid the door hitting her on the way in, since she was stuck. I got her jacket off, while she watched the other kids engaged in play. Orion came up to her to say hi, then Peyton just put her head down. That was my cue to leave. I gave her a tight squeeze, told her I’d be back after nap, then headed out. She started bawling after I left. I dropped off a library book, then headed home. I picked up some things to return, then headed to the mall. I had three stores to hit up, and I was able to do the things I needed to do. I also picked up some more presents for Peyton’s birthday – Lego friends and some Disney princess stuff. I headed back home, ate a quick lunch, then went to pick up Brandon. I brought him home, and he ate his lunch while I vacuumed and tidied up in the kitchen. After almost two hours of working and eating, he hadn’t finished up. But, we left to go get Peyton. We were on a tight schedule since the kids get up at 3pm, but her doctor’s appointment was 345pm. The teachers knew ahead of time, so they were prepared by waking the kids up a little earlier. They set out our cookies on the plates for the kids, and they all finished putting their mats away and washed their hands. Peyton was given a crown and asked to sit at the head of the table. I took some pictures:
I interrupted Peyton from her cookie to pass out the goodie bags for her friends. I think I could tell who she liked best by who she gave the purple bag to. Neha got one. So did Orion, though she’d gone home for the day. After she was done with her duties, I asked her to take her cookie to go. We headed across the street for her appointment. Within a few minutes, we were called back. I told the MA that she could hear, but was just shy and stubborn. I finally went over to her and asked her which ear the sound was coming from. She held her hand up finally. Then we headed to the vision test, and we met up with my former manager. She asked me about the kids, and then stood around to watch the test! I was mortified having her see my stubborn child not answering what shapes she was being shown. She even picked shapes over letters! We stopped the exam and ducked into the room while quickly saying bye to the manager. After the MA was done, we were approached about a vaccine study, but it involved another blood test for baseline titers. I wasn’t interested in doing it since it meant poking baby girl another time (we already have to do one blood test anyway for cholesterol given our family history of heart disease). And it meant having a second series of shots later down the road, since the study vaccine must be given separately. Sorry, GSK. We opted to give the MMR, Chicken Pox, and DPT today. I prepped her that she may need shots, and she was whining already before the appointment. When she heard it was actually happening, even more whining ensued. This turned into crying. Nothing was even happening! When the doctor came in, she was listening to the tail end of the vaccine RN explanation. For the exam, Peyton cooperated. She is okay with being poked and prodded as long as she isn’t asked to talk. Though the doctor asked about her speech (since she wasn’t talking), and what her favorite ride was at Disneyland. Peyton did answer, “Ariel.” Then the doctor asked what Peyton was up to. I told her about the reading, and she told me how uncommon it was. She was doing a lot of explaining of things to me, and the kids were both reading their books. When Peyton was in her own world, she was just reading the book aloud, so Dr C was able to hear her speech. Dr C was asking about Brandon, too, since he was in the room with us. She knew about his upcoming appointment next month. When all was said and done, I think we spent almost 45 minutes with the doctor. Hopefully we were her last appointment! That’s the thing I love about her, she always takes the time with us, and we get all our questions answered. Here are her stats that we also talked about. I was more concerned about Brandon’s weight loss, and concerned about Peyton. She assured me both are good. I’ll update Brandon’s next month at his official birthday.
Peyton: 4 years – 38 pounds, 3 ounces (73%), 3’5″ (76%). So, at least she is evenly matched. She’d been shorter relative to her weight last year. So she’s stretching out more, which I know Michelle had mentioned she’d noticed.
