Lego magazine; Super Dad!; Teething

Last time I was at the Lego store, I picked up two identical magazines. The girl offered me one, but I knew I couldn’t go home with just one. I think it’s a catalog, not a magazine, but nonetheless, it keeps the kids entertained. It’s their reading material on the way to school. Peyton told me, “Mommy, this one has Nick Furry. He’s a pirate because he only has one eye.” Hard to sound like a tough guy, when your name should be FURY, but it reads “Furry”. I picked Peyton and came home to pick up some things for Dave’s science fair. Right as I was getting home, A-ha “Take on Me” came on the radio. Peyton said, “OH, Mommy, it’s the song we heard at Grandma’s house. When we danced!” She was totally right! She’d heard the song one time while we danced to it, and she picked it out on the radio. It was impressive because it is a different version, I believe, on the video game. I’m surprised she knew what it was! She told me she wanted to stay in the car, as I’d parked outside the house. I tried to convince her to come in with me, since I needed to change and grab some stuff. But, I thought better of it, since she is so slow, so I agreed. I locked up the car, and went in the house to do my stuff. I was hurrying because I half-pictured a monkey let loose inside the car. I came out, grabbed the cooler that Dave had requested, and then brought it back to the car. I didn’t see anyone jumping around inside, but then I was worried because I didn’t see any movement at all. I went around to her side of the car, and there she was, sitting in the same place I’d left her, leg crossed one over the other knee, reading her magazine. She just looked up at me as if there was nothing wrong with the picture. We picked up some Lee’s sandwiches, rice and noodles for the kids, and headed to Dave. He and Brandon were busy putting things out for the fair. Brandon was VERY helpful, and chose to help Dave over eating dinner! Peyton had to go potty, and soon we were locked out of the fair, waiting with the other participants. There were supposed to be 300 people in attendance, and the event was capped to the other half of the school due to overwhelming popularity. When the doors opened, we got our stuff and I let the kids loose. Brandon went around with some of his friends, and I even met some of the parents to get contact information from those I didn’t already have. Peyton was happy to go around and explore. I told them both not to leave the gym, but I let them go off leash. Brandon would periodically go back to Dave’s station and help him, while Peyton wanted me to go with her exploring different stations. She made a pea and toothpick creation, some GAK (Dave’s station), a kaleidoscope, and a top. There were even stations that we didn’t get to, since it was so crowded. Dave along with the other three organizers did a great job! They had plenty of volunteers to staff each booth, including the high school students who were there and very helpful. I took the kids home by 730 pm, but neither wanted to leave. Dave stayed to wrap up and clean up the stuff. He seemed to get really good feedback from the parents. Now that it’s done, he can concentrate on being “Coach”.
When we got home, I gave Peyton a bath, while Brandon was sitting in the car, waiting for Dave. By the time I was done, sulking Brandon had come in and took his bath. He was sad that he hadn’t given Daddy a hug. Such a Daddy’s boy. He was almost going to go back to the gym to hug him, but I told him to stay with me, since we’d already crossed the street. For a split second, I thought he was going to bolt, since I was holding bags and Peyton’s hand. He changed his mind (he was standing between the cars in the street), and then came back with me, but he was still mad. He told me that he would wait for Dave’s return. When Dave came back, I told him to go up and say goodnight. He said Brandon was awake, but barely holding onto consciousness. He’d also pulled out his tooth after I tucked him in! I was queasy tonight while I flossed him since it was hanging by a thread. I told him it’d be okay if he just yanked it out, and I told him just to pull straight down. Well, he does listen. Now, he’ll get a visit from the Tooth Fairy tonight!

Peyton stood around and watched the soap dish activity for awhile. Both kids wanted to do it, but neither wanted to go inside the bubble.  Finally, Peyton got the courage, and here she is.
