We had an extra day since we both took off as both kids were out of school. We lounged around after waking up, then we had the kids watch the inauguration. It turned out that Peyton was more interested than Brandon. We started right as the vice president was being sworn in. Peyton was watching quietly, sitting between Dave and me. She enjoyed watching the songs being sung, too. Brandon would ask questions, but he was really fixated on “God”. As when they were doing the benediction, and also when they were being sworn in. We headed home right after the Star Spangled Banner. Brandon said, “Oh, hi, Peyton!” She’d woken up at 630 am, and went back to sleep on our drive at 10 am. Peyton slept almost the entire way, waking up with about 20 minutes left. We headed downtown to check out some restaurants for Brandon’s birthday party. We’re going to invite his friends to lunch and a movie. So, we wanted to find a place within walking distance, as we’re inviting the parents to feel free to drop their son off at lunch, and then meet us after the movie. The kids are old enough now, and we will manage. Peyton will be with my mom for her own pizza party, since it will be during her naptime. It will be easier without her around, especially as she doesn’t do as well with movies, even though it’s only an hour (IMAX).
Here are some quotes heard this weekend.
As we were leaving my mom’s, we smelled a skunk. Peyton asked, “What’s that smell?” I told her, “Skunk.” She said, “That skunk is passing gas.” (We don’t usually say that, we usually call it a ‘fart’, so I’m not sure where she got that one).
We had lunch outside today, and there were a few dogs with several different owners amongst the various tables outside. Right behind us, there was a brown spotted dog, almost like a dalmatian, but with brown spots. Peyton said loudly, “The dog is all muddy, and he’s missing his teeth.” I don’t think either was true, but I didn’t dare look its owners in their eyes.
When we finally got home, Dave was outside with Brandon, cleaning up the backyard, while we were inside cleaning up. She said, “Mommy, is daddy your prince?” I told her, “Yes!” Then she said, “Then you are a princess!” Dave just said, “Pssht.”
Here’s a picture of Brandon before his lesson yesterday, among other pictures of him in basketball, and a series Dave took on Brandon’s last run.

First video of what Peyton was up to while Brandon was at his lesson. *Clearly I should not be talking to others while filming. Didn’t realize I had missed so much of her.
Another run: this lady thought Peyton was her kid, and filmed her all the way down, too
