Busy Wednesday! Helicopter

Usually our weekends are busy, but today was a doozy. I took the kids to school, then headed to work myself. My mom got Brandon, while I got Peyton. I left at 430pm, and didn’t get home with Peyton until 520pm. I quickly changed, and Brandon was fed and ready to go to basketball practice. He’d practiced his spelling with my mom by passing the basketball back and forth. He’d have to catch the ball, and give the next letter in the word. If he dropped it, he had to start over again. If he got it wrong, he’d have to start all over again. Genius, Mom! He’d already done his homework, too, so he was really ready to go. I reminded him on the way there that he needed to listen to the substitute coach. He said, “Do I need to listen to you, too?” I told him, “Of course!” I didn’t know how much coaching I’d be doing, but I was dressed in case I needed to help out. We weren’t allowed in the gym, though Dave said they normally go in early and shoot around. I was actually looking forward to shooting around with Brandon. Once we were let in, only 6 of Brandon’s team was there. I was on the court to encourage Brandon to shoot the ball. I slowly walked away as more parents and their kids came. There were 8 kids total. The sub coach had things going smoothly, so I ended up texting Dave to tell him what was going on with his practice. Soon, one of the other boys was getting really physical, and it was annoying the other kids. At one point, he had Brandon in a headlock, but Brandon got out of it. The other kid’s dad was there, but he was on his phone, oblivious to the situation, or ignoring it. The other kid got into it with a few of the other kids on the team, as well. Dave said it wasn’t unusual. Two kids actually got a timeout for fighting, and both of their dads were there (one was the first kid, along with another). Both dads were on their phones. Fascinating! If you’re there at practice, you might as well help your kid to function in practice! If nothing else, help the coach out a bit. Not like levitra fast shipping , L-arginine must be taken every day. Brandon was behaving, since he knew I was watching him like a hawk. I reminded him to not kick the ball, and reminded him to keep his hands up on defense. I was telling Dave that the team needed helping learning how to shoot. The sub coaches weren’t really helping as much with that, and the kids were just throwing up hail mary’s and granny’s. It looked horrible. Brandon was getting better, since he’s using more leg. He dribbles right-handed, which is a bit strange. It’s funny when the team calls its own fouls, too, meaning that they know the rules now. One kid called Brandon for a travel and double-dribble, and he was totally right! I reminded Brandon to dribble with one hand or the other, but not both. And he’s got to work on passing the ball to avoid the travel call. I told him he will lose the ball if he does either of those things, so he was trying really hard. It was also nice to see him cheering and watching his teammates when it wasn’t his turn. Normally, he’d start messing around with the other kids, but I think he was paying more attention today. They also worked on some chest passes, but I think they need Dave’s coaching more on that. He said he would pass it to them, so they knew what a hard pass was. Otherwise, they end up turning the ball over with lazy passes.
We left after practice was over. We talked some more in the car about how he did. Then, he got himself ready for bed. Peyton was still up, and she was playing catch with my mom, too. The kids went down, while I did my 30 minutes of the Nike app. We each had a piece of leftover birthday cake, then turned in ourselves.

Yesterday, when I went to get Peyton, there was a helicopter hovering over the school. Apparently, it’d been there for at least 30 minutes. Today, I discovered it was looking over something – a man who had been storing chemicals at his house in the same city, and only about a mile away from Peyton’s school. In my time in college, I’ve known helicopters to be “ghetto birds”, but I didn’t realize we had them up here, too 🙁 It’s the second time in a year that there’s been police activity so close to Peyton’s school, which is across the street from work!
