V-Day

Today, Peyton’s principal told Peyton, “You look just like your brother, with hair!” I don’t know how Peyton felt about that, but she gave her usual non-response. She was cheerful, so I don’t think she took offense. So, my mom had both kids by the time I got home. She’d attended her V-day party, and the kids were lined up about to sing. That’s just what happened for the Christmas party, too! She had been rehearsing “Roses are Red…” (my mom caught the tune last night, and she was surprised Peyton was singing a Bobby Vinton song). She heard her sing, “Roses are red, my love, violets are blue-oo-ooo…” but she didn’t finish up the rest of the song.  My mom didn’t know the rest of the words either.  When they were in the classroom, my mom figured out why she knew the song.  The kids sang for the two families that were at the party.  They came home and brought most of the goodies back with them.  My mom was going to stay for dinner to avoid traffic.  I announced to the kids we were going to Pizza My Heart.  Since it has “heart” in it, I figured it’d be a good place to go.  I let the kids each pick a slice; both picked the Hawaiian.  I got one, and so did my mom.  I got two salads for us, and we all sat and ate.  The kids sat next to each other, and they did a great job.  It helped they were watching TV (sponge bob of all things), but they knew it wasn’t appropriate for them.  But they continued to watch.  It gave us a chance to each our dinner, too.  We left, and before we even got back home, Brandon said, “Bye, Grandma!”  He definitely likes doing things on his own terms, and would rather initiate the goodbye versus being said goodbye to.  I got them upstairs and bathed, just as my mom was leaving.  While I was bathing Peyton, Brandon was practicing his spelling test.  This is his second week in a row of the challenge words, so he’s been practicing.  I got them to bed right around 715pm, which is about 12 hours after we headed out for school/work this morning.  What a long day.  The kids didn’t get a chance to call Daddy, but I think they are okay with it since they know they will see him tomorrow.

I have to “practice” reading a book for Mystery Reader tomorrow.  I was going to pick one book to read, so I had it out of the library book bag.  Brandon said, “Oh, my teacher read that to us in class.”  OH.  Man.  It was perfect – a nice story about sharing and Chinese new year!  Well, off to the drawing board to pick another book.  We also have Brandon’s 7 year old check up tomorrow.  Another busy day.
