Winter Break

Winter break was delayed for a bit since Dave was out of town on business, but we still had a three-day weekend in which we headed down to “the park”. I had the kids picked up and bathed (in anticipation of an early next morning) and ready to go by about 5. We headed down to meet Dave, who had been dropped off. We met up, and I jumped out with Brandon to go potty.  When we came back, the car was empty and locked.  Dave had taken Peyton to potty, too, but he hadn’t told me. Initially, she said she didn’t have to go. He saw me stuck and knew we had a problem. He thought I’d taken my keys with me. My argument was that I didn’t have a place to put them. My phone was in the car, too. And the keys were right in the center console. There was a much higher chance of my keys ending up in the toilet versus locked in the car, or so I thought. So an hour later, and a small snack in the restaurant where the car was, and we were on our way. I fed the kids their intended dinner, and we made our way south. One good thing was that we didn’t stop for gas. Or anything. We made it down by 1145 pm, less than 5 hours. The kids went down without a problem after brushing their teeth.
We got up at the kids’ usual time the next morning. This helped get us moving out of the house. We made it to the park by about 930 am, which isn’t bad for us. The park wasn’t that crowded, and we found a ride all four of us could ride and enjoy (the boys don’t like Small World). We hung out between the two parks until about 430 pm. We met up with Dave’s parents for dinner. We turned in for an early night. We laid down with the kids at 830 pm! And slept. I’d set my alarm for 6 the next morning for us to get to the park by 7. It was magic morning for Annual Pass holders to start in DCA. We got there by 710 am so we almost made it. Brandon and I headed over to the new Radiator racecars. The wait is typically 2-3 hours but it was listed as 20. Our true wait time: 9 minutes. He loved it, and we went again. We still had time before the regular public was let in at 8. So we went a third time and had no wait at all. Since it was almost 8, most had their fill of this ride. We had an empty car, which is unheard of! As soon as it was 8, the herd came! It was our time to meet with Dave. We went over to TSM and waited for 10 minutes. Dave and Peyton had already left that area. They headed to get warmed milk and chocolate squares for later. We met up with them for milk/coffee. We hadn’t fed them yet, so headed across the way for breakfast. It was definitely more crowded in this day. We ran into Peyton’s friend from school whose mom was a former teacher there and knew both kids. We said goodbye then headed to Star Tours. It does not end there, as they also carry self-tanning buy tadalafil uk tissues, which are a superb alternative to sunbathing or tanning beds. We got on to this ride twice. The second time I was the rebel spy! The kids were really excited about it and I think they told the whole back row where we sat. Then it was Peyton’s turn with me. She wanted to listen to the Voices of Liberty, a singing group. This preceded Mr. Lincoln. She sat for 40 minutes listening to the songs and then a little from the 16 th president. I was proud of her wanting to listen to the performers. We then met up again with the boys. Dave told me that he had run into a fellow Bruin fan who gave him 5 passes for Radiator Racers! The only thing was that they were for 6pm. It was only 3 or so. We hadn’t planned to stay that long but we couldn’t pass that up! We walked around a bit, traded for a Vinylmation for both kids (a rat for Peyton and a special edition one for Brandon given to him by a cast member) and watched a high school performance on the special stage. The boys were not excited, but Peyton loved it. Then we all went to watch Aladdin together to see if there were any new jokes (one at the expense of the 49ers). We sat up in the mezzanine section. I asked Peyton if she wanted to watch it again in the orchestra section. She did. So while Dave took Brandon, I took Peyton in line again. We waited about 20 minutes then got in. We took the last row on the aisle to see the entertainers in the aisle. She was a bit scared to sit on the end, so I sat there. The jokes were exactly the same but Genie did improv one scene when the audience groaned. Our view was much better! Peyton got to touch the camel’s nose! By the time we got out, Dave and Brandon finished up their two rides. We each got to spend a good amount of one on one time with each. Some memorable comments were from Brandon who, on Haunted Mansion, asked, “Can you cover my eyes? My hands are not wide enough.” We reviewed percentages on TSM, and I think he started to get the concept. He also asked me, “Why don’t pirates have teeth?” I told him because they don’t brush twice a day, and they eat sweets.
Both kids were given CNY money, and we told them they could spend it at the park. I tried to encourage them to get toys, not food, since buying food doesn’t last long with $20. Brandon chose Legos and with our discount, his money did go further. He still had 8$ so he put a Wonder Woman key chain for 5 $. I asked Dave why he wanted Wonder Woman. He shrugged. I asked Brandon the same question. He sheepishly said, “It’s for Peyton.” I gave him a big hug and thanked him for being such a good big brother. He really wanted a churro but we also convinced him to wait until we go to Costco 😉 Again, the money will last longer and we’re teaching him to delay gratification. He put the Legos together today, so I think he’s happy with things. The weather and crowds definitely made for good conditions on this trip. Both days, both kids went down for naps, so there was not much complaining. Since we split up, the kids got to go on their own rides but they were enough we did together. The kids rode Buzz together, letting Dave and I duke it out behind them (winner: me – first time ever!) We learned this was the last trip we can all cram in a clamshell at Ariel. We are no longer “a small four”. Small World was closed to get rid of the holiday decorations. Another great trip! Now we’re headed back and Brandon is counting down hours.
