Celebrate! Testing Me? LONG day…

This was the conversation this morning with Peyton:
P: And I will be 5 in 2014 (we were talking about upcoming birthday parties of girls turning 4).
R: And what should we do for your birthday?
P: I dunno, celebrate maybe?
R: OH. Okay. I think we can do that.

Brandon brought his Scholastic books home from school today.  The kids were looking through it, and I got an Abraham Lincoln book for $1. Peyton saw it, and she remembered learning about him at D-land. I asked her if she remembered which president he was.  She started with 11, then worked her way up to the right answer.  She said, “I only know Lincoln and Obama.”  I told her she knew Washington, our first president.  Then she said, “Who was #2?”  I had to stop and think, then responded, “John Adams.”  Then I knew what was coming, “Who was number 3?”  “Thomas Jefferson (proud of myself!).”  Then, she wouldn’t stop. So, I told her, “We should look it up.”  Luckily, she agreed.  And now, while blogging, I’m wiki-ing the list of former presidents.

Today, Brandon had baseball practice, his first for the season. Dave picked him up, and they headed over.  Luckily, it was close by, within walking distance to the house.  I picked Peyton up, and since she is a slow-poke, I told her to eat dinner before we could head over to watch practice.  She ate her food, drank her milk, and even had a few strawberries before bundling up for the walk over.  We got there, and she immediately went over to the climbing structures.  She said she could see Dave since he was the only one wearing shorts.  I spotted her for most of the time, then we headed over to the team.  They have two girls on their team, so I think it’s a good influence for Peyton to watch them, too.  Dave stayed behind to chat with the parents and introduce himself, I’m sure, while I walked both kids back home.  After practice, he was going on to a coaches’ clinic/seminar, so he wouldn’t be around for our nighttime routine.   I gave Peyton a bath, while Brandon ate the food I’d warmed up for him.  I took turns climbing up and down the stairs to get both kids what they needed. Peyton finished changing her clothes, while I fed Brandon round two of dinner.  He bathed, while I read to Peyton, then it was lights out for her.  Brandon finished up his math homework, then I read him the same book Peyton read (Lincoln).  We finished up right before 8 pm, later than usual, but not too shabby considering I was solo.  I turned to leave Brandon’s room, and I saw Peyton’s dog staring at me in the hallway.  It was like watching Poltergeist or something, and I was a bit creeped out, since I didn’t even see or hear her put it there.  She had it pointing into Brandon’s room, and it is a life-sized small dog!  She later came out to retrieve it, so I knew it was her that put it there (really, there was no one else, but it was just so creepy, watching us like that).  Now it’s lights out for both, and hopefully they go to sleep soon, since Brandon will have another long day of basketball practice tomorrow night.  Luckily, this is the only week we have this schedule.  I feel like I’m over-scheduled!
