Spring Forward

We have definitely sprung into Spring. We purposely didn’t change the kids’ clocks, and we told them to stay in their rooms until 7am. Thus, we did NOT lose an hour of sleep as intended. I got to “sleep in” until 8 am 🙂 The kids listened to their imposed curfew, and we didn’t hear from them until that time. Peyton and I got ready to leave for the birthday party, and it ended up being a bit of a dash as we headed out the door later than intended. The mall didn’t open until 11 am, but our store was open at 10 am. The party was intimate, but it was great, as it was Orion’s closest school friends. Sydney was already there, and Olivia came soon after we did. The girls all had fun saying hi to one another, over and over. Then, they were skipping and hopping around at the front of the store before being asked to line up to listen to instructions. Peyton did well, and was very sweet, wishing Orion a happy birthday and handing her the present. Sydney made an astute observation that the gift wrapping was the same as hers from yesterday. Yes, we bought them the same thing, though Peyton decorated her card differently. The girls all chose brightly colored animals. They were given the run of the place, and Peyton chose the rainbow bunny. They stuffed, cleaned and then dressed their animal. Peyton chose a purple dress, bypassing the Disney princess stuff, which I was surprised to see. I think she missed that they had Ariel clothes, but she picked a modest outfit, so that was nice. The girls all got to dress their animals, then all took a picture with the birthday girl. We headed two stores down and had ice cream cake. Peyton was so excited, and even asked if she can eat frosting! It was ice cream frosting, so I nodded it was okay. There was so much cake left, and the first round were thin slices, so the birthday girl’s mom asked if each of them wanted a second slice. She was so excited to get a second slice, though her eyes were bigger than her tummy. She didn’t finish it (just like yesterday!), and the kids all headed to the play area to burn off their sugar. We’d never taken either kid to the play area, but fortunately, it wasn’t that crowded, and hopefully since it was early, not as dirty. While there, they saw Navya and her sister there. Hopefully Navya didn’t wonder why 4 of her school friends were all together. I gave Peyton a five minute warning before heading out and saying our goodbyes and thank yous. Peyton was polite and did tell both the birthday girl and her mom “thank you”. We headed out to Brandon’s opening day ceremony. We got there right as it was finishing up, found Dave and Brandon, then walked back to our cars. We ate a quick lunch, then I sent Peyton up to nap. Unfortunately, she didn’t, and Dave had to take both kids back for Brandon’s team pictures, the hit-a-thon, and spinning the prize wheel. I left to walk a 10K with Bonnie at the trail by work. Bonnie and I walked, monitoring our progress with the gps/app. We had a pit stop at our turnaround spot, and walked the distance back. It didn’t feel like “work” walking, since we were talking and walking. It didn’t seem like 6 miles compared to when I run and am constantly checking the mileage. We got back about 2 hours later, almost on the dot! Later, I got a text from Dave that Brandon had won $50 on the wheel! They only let the players spin, so Peyton didn’t get to this time. Last year, we each got to spin, but this year, they limited it to the players, though the prizes were better. I met them back at home, then Dave left with Brandon to get Wreck-It-Ralph, while I bathed Peyton. We’re winding down a busy day with the movie. Dave and I plan to watch it later, since he’s cooking, and I’m cleaning up and blogging.
Here are some pictures I took. Dave took his own video/pictures from opening day, and hopefully I’ll be able to see some of them.  Thanks again to Dave and Stuart for watching all the kids while we got our exercise and completed our task for the 10K.
