Caffeinated Motivation

This morning, we had the volunteer appreciation at Brandon’s school. This year, due to all of his scientific efforts, Dave was also invited! I’d done some behind the scene things at school, and also in the classroom, so I was invited back. It was an adult only function, so I was debating what to do with Peyton. I was going to bring her to school and have her play with Brandon, but he protested! His response was, “Take her to her own school! I don’t want her at my school.” I told him eventually, she would be at his school. He said, “But she’s in pre-school now, I don’t want her here.” So, I asked Peyton if she would just hang out by herself, because I knew she liked being there. But since the school doesn’t carry insurance on non-students on their jungle gyms, she wasn’t allowed on the structures. After talking to her about it, I decided it was better to just take her to her own school. We left a little after 7 am, and after the 40 minutes turnaround time, I came back home. Dave ‘s car was already gone, so I headed straight to school. I found them in the line-up area, with Brandon talking to Carter and Wyatt, the twins. Dave was just there, looking on. I was pointing out the kids I knew to him from his class or last year’s class, since he wasn’t familiar with the non-basketball, non-baseball kids, though he saw some of them, too. Then, the bell rang, and the kids went off to the playground, while Dave and I headed inside. We started with coffee, then headed to the baked goods. Somehow I cannot resist baked goods šŸ™ I had a half muffin and enjoyed it with my coffee and blueberries. We sat through the presentation, and it is so inspiring to see how many hours these volunteers give to the school to make it a better place for the kids. I always say when Peyton is there, too, I’ll have more time and focus to dedicate to helping out. For now, I’ll do what I can, when I can. After the presentation, Dave went off to work. I had a few choices, but since I’d already dropped Peyton off at school, I wasn’t going back to work. I didn’t want to keep trekking back and forth. I decided I needed to work off the muffin. So, I went to the gym, and the caffeine got me motivated to run 5 miles. I haven’t run more than 3 miles in a long time, and the last time I went to the gym, I eeked out 3 miles. Well, less 55 minutes later, I was done! I got to watch some games shows, in closed captioning for the hearing impaired, but I got it done. The runs this summer are looking more doable now! I’ve always worried about caffeinating before or during a run, but it definitely works! I hope it doesn’t work too long, like later tonight when I’m trying to go to sleep. Now I have an hour or so before I go pick Brandon up. This is his last week of formal homework, then next week, he will need to continue his math and reading practice. He earned two books for his two purple cards this week, so he has plenty to read!
