City Day

We hung around in the morning, doing workbooks with Brandon, while running upstairs to help Peyton with her puzzle. She is tackling a 500 piece puzzle, so that should keep her busy for quite a while. She finished up the 300 piece Cars puzzle this morning. We dropped her off at around 10 am, so I could make a stop at Costco to return something. Then, we headed up to the city to pick up my bib and timing chip. We found meter parking, and I paid for two hours thinking that’d be enough for us to attend the expo. As we were walking toward the ballpark, a motorcycle cop pulled over while we waited at a red light. I saw a bunch of SFPD bikes out in the parking lot, and it said, “SFPD Training in Progress.” He asked us, “Are you here to come check out our event?” I asked him when it started. He told me, “Now, we have tacos, and you can hang out and watch the events.” He pointed to the tents, and then I told him we’d stop by and check it out (I didn’t know it was open to the public before the invitation) on our way back from getting our SF gear. We got to the Expo, and there was already a line formed, with 15 minutes to open the gates. Fifteen minutes came and went. I’d had snacks in my bag, but Brandon ate them all on the way up. Luckily, there was a truck passing out free snacks as samples. He got a few popcorn bags while we waited. Event staff kept telling us they weren’t yet ready, and soon enough, it was way past 12pm. Luckily, we were close to the restrooms, and Brandon went on his own, while I watched people come in and out of there. The doors didn’t open until 1245 pm! I couldn’t believe he waited there that long, with only a few toys in his pocket. We quickly went to pick up my bib, timing chip, and bobble head. There wasn’t much else for Brandon, so we headed out. We had about 45 minutes left on the meter. So we headed to the bike event, and as soon as we walked up to the tent, a motorcycle cop came up to us and said, “Glad you could make it back!” It was the same guy! I would never have been able to pick him out of the crowd, since they all looked alike! The bikes were all lined up in a row, and there were others practicing on the course of cones. So turns out the cop that stopped us organized the whole event! He said it was like a wedding. We got seats under the tent, and hung out and watched them practice. He was chatting with us, and Brandon kept reminding me about the meter. We cleaned up after lunch, though I didn’t want to eat too much, as I didn’t want to make a mess of things. It was breezy, and hard to eat without stuff going everywhere. I told the Sergeant that I had to go back and feed the meter. He then said that the lot was free, and to park in where all the cops were. I was a bit nervous, as I didn’t want to knock cones down, hit anything or anyone. We returned to our spot in the shade and watched the zero emission bike contest. It was the bike that Brandon kept thinking was a dirt bike, but it didn’t make any noise. We saw some spills, and were almost a bit too close for those. The mounted police also stopped by, and Brandon got one of their stickers and got to pet the horse. After sitting out there for another hour or so, Brandon decided he was done. I taught him how to properly shake his hand, and we practiced for a bit, before shaking the Sergeant’s hand. Turns out he didn’t shake, but gave him a high five. Brandon and I walked back to the car, and left to get Peyton. We made it back in time for the carnival, which ended up being snacks outside. Since I’d brought home some snacks for Peyton, I took her out when I saw it was all junk food. She was kicking and screaming, while Brandon was calm and understood, since he’d eaten many snacks already today. We came home, and Dave met us within 15 minutes. We’re now about to take them on a bike ride.
