We were to meet up with the Kao’s at 9 am at the dish. It’s a 3.2-3.3 (the website says 3.3) loop. I had geared up with water, apple chips, a cut up persimmon and some grapes. We left the house late, but managed to arrive at the meeting spot 5 minutes after 9 am. We met up with Michelle and the kids while Ted parked the car. We started our ascent, and the kids were happily walking, giggling, and wasting too much energy. We warned them that they had to conserve. The last time we did the dish was with the double stroller and Josephine who was training for a run. That was at least 2-3 years ago, and both kids were happy to be in the stroller. Dave, not so much, as he pushed the thing everywhere. This time, no strollers were to be found. I’d asked Peyton ahead of time if she was going to hold Mckayla’s hand. She told me, “No, I’m just going to hold your hand.” At least she walked alongside Mckalya, who tried to grab her hand. Peyton was evasive, and she didn’t say anything, but didn’t hold her hand either. At one point, the three older kids were pretty far ahead of us, while Michelle and I walked and talked together, then Dave, and then Marcus and Ted. When we got to the top, the kids wanted water. I didn’t give our kids water until Ted arrived with Mckayla and Marcus’ water. We cheered Marcus on as he got to the top, though he wouldn’t high five me 🙂
We stopped for a little water break, and some persimmons to go. Marcus had a good second half, while I half-dragged Peyton. I got her moving with the prospect of more apple chips when we got up to the second hill. She made it all by herself, with lots of encouragement. We took the kids’ minds off the walk by talking about their mutual love of Disney rides and listening to Disney songs on the phone. Peyton struggled the last half-block back to the car, but we told her we’d be going to lunch.
Marcus wanted Brandon to read to him, and Mckayla shared her coloring with Peyton, so that helped determined our seating arrangement. Everyone was hungry, and the kids all ate nicely. When they were done, they went back to reading, playing and coloring together. We said goodbye, and then headed home for a nap. Now, we’re going to get ready for the week to start. It’s officially December!
