Monday

We are gearing up for Dave’s departure. After eating breakfast with my parents and dropping them off at the airport, we headed home. Peyton fell asleep, but only for the drive. I took her with me to shop for groceries, while Dave was making some fried rice for the week. We have curry, fried rice and spaghetti. I picked up some veggies, fruit, and yogurt to stock up. I think we’re set! I also gassed up my car to avoid having to do this this week. We’ll be running on a very tight schedule, so I’ll need to make sure we are a well-oiled machine. We learned on Saturday that someone rummaged through Dave’s car while he was getting ready to go to t-ball. He was only inside for 5 minutes, with the doors unlocked. Luckily, they didn’t take anything, but still, the car was parked outside on our driveway!! In any case, I will be arming the house as soon as we get home, as we’re not planning to leave once both kids are picked up from school. While we were out, Dave took Brandon for a bike ride, since it’s part of his homework. Dave said he’s getting better at riding now. It seems like if we try to push something, it doesn’t happen, but the older he gets, the more he studies and is pushed by others, the better he does! It’s been awhile since he’s been on his bike, at least a few weeks, but Dave said he’s more stable. Some of his peers are whizzes at the bike, and I think that motivates him to improve. Peyton was telling me now that gymnastics is over, she wants to do “Soccer, basketball, swimming and football.” Um, not so much on the football, but sure to the rest of ’em!

Celebration

Last night, we were eating dinner at my parents’ house, then we left to head up to the city for the 75th birthday celebration for the golden gate bridge.  We took public transportation up there, and got off downtown and proceeded to walk down the pier.  We thought the ferry building would still be open, but it was not.  We headed up the piers, trying to find a good vantage point.  We ended up at 39, and we could see the bridge from the pedestrian walkway bridging the parking structure from the shopping area.  We stood on it just to take a picture, but I was worried if a lot of people were up there, it may not hold the weight.  It was already bouncing just walking on it, and was scary to be so high above the street.  Dave did some recon, and we got up on top of the parking structure.  We had a good view of the bridge from there.
While we waited, we were scoping out places to eat.  Dave found this place he remembered seeing on a local TV station about restaurant recommendations.  We got there, and it was a quaint little place, but they were expecting a huge group (50!) of people coming after a wedding.  We’d already looked over the menu while waiting for the fireworks, so we ordered right away.  We ordered a beet salad and mini pot pies to share.  The server was worried it wasn’t going to be enough food for us, but we assured her it would be.  We didn’t tell her it was our second dinner 😉   We also ordered a dessert to share – PB&J.  It was seared pound cake, with a layer of jam, peanut butter with peanut butter ice cream.  We’re food-picture-taking amateurs, and only took this after each scooping one slice of cake each, as well as the strawberry that was garnishing the side!  Yum.

We got home and the kids were sound asleep.  It was almost midnight.  Brandon was in one room, and Peyton was in the family room with my mom.  My mom later told us that Brandon listened and went straight to sleep, but Peyton gave her more trouble.  Probably because she slept for over 2 hours during her nap!

Cookies

I was on a mission to learn how to decorate cookies, specifically HK cookies.  With the use of youtube videos, namely this one by Sweetsugarbelle, I was able to follow along with the directions.  It’s pretty tedious, and I waited to put the kids to sleep before attempting most of it.  Brandon helped a little bit when I baked the cookies, but the decorating part needed quiet and concentration.  Here’s a progression of the different steps taken:
1) Outlining and filling cookies

2) These were kitties that I did bows first, then faces (didn’t quite like those as well, I felt):

Special guests

Today, all of us went to gymnastics, since the boys were not supposed to be at baseball until 12pm.  Brandon kept himself entertained in the lobby area between the two halves of the gym, while Dave came in to film Peyton.  I told Brandon to not go out the front door, and he agreed.  I’m not so much worried about him leaving anywhere, since he is very chicken, and would always check with us first.  Dave was still able to keep an eye on him, and we saw him half way through when we crossed over to the other side of the room.  At the end of the class, Peyton got a ribbon!  She was very happy, and thanked both Brandon and Dave for coming to her class (after I prompted her).  We came home, had a snack, then Dave was getting ready to go to t-ball.  My parents arrived shortly before they left.  Both kids were super excited to see them at our house!  They are excited in general, but especially since they are here.  Dave and Brandon took off, then we hung out here for a bit before heading out.  I’d brought our three chairs, but I didn’t bring any entertainment for Peyton.  She even asked me, “Do you have my backpack?”  Oops.  So, I bribed her.  Yes. I did.  Nachos.  And she agreed to stay with one of the three of us and not make noise.  As soon as the game started, she said she needed to go potty!  Ugh.  So I took her, and luckily, the team was in the outfield.  I like to see them bat.  So we got back, and the inning was just finishing up.  Good timing.  So she watched reasonably well.  Brandon was the home run hitter, which is the second time this season.  The last was the last time my mom came to visit!  What are the chances?  During the second inning, while the opposing team was up, Peyton was chilling on my mom’s lap, but close to my dad, too, snuggled up, but she was heckling the batters!  She would making this annoying “AAAAA….” sound.  True they were playing the A’s, but it wasn’t a cheer for the A’s.  Poor kid was up there hacking away, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t helping that Peyton was making noise at him. She was pretty intermittent about it, timing it only when he swung.  I didn’t realize it until a few pitches in, then I told her to stop and just cheer for her brother’s team.  I reminded her about the nachos, and she stopped.  This was the third ups.  Ugh, lady was in my way, as I had to kneel down as Peyton followed me out there, and I was trying to shield her from any foul balls.  I missed the second due to technical difficulties.  We got through the end of the game, and all the kids were excited about the snack shack. What was amazing was that one of the team moms brought a frosted cake and handed out a huge piece of cake to each teammate!  Brandon got his slice and immediately brought it over to me to get back in line for his snack shack ticket.  Peyton saw it and immediately wanted it.  I asked Peyton if she wanted some, she had to ask Brandon, and then couldn’t have nachos.  She did ask him as he ran by her on his way to the snack shack, and he said she could have it!  I’ve rarely seen this kid pass up sweets, but I guess since he was having more sweets, it didn’t matter too much.    Or he’s like Dave and isn’t trustful of homemade items.  Peyton later changed her mind, too, and wanted the nachos.

In line and discussed before, Brandon was told he could get anything at the snack shack except the candy 🙂  That was Dave’s rule that he told him.  He chose a donut, which was okay.  Dave told me he didn’t have any money in his wallet!  I’d left mine in the car, so luckily, my dad forked over the $1 for Peyton’s nachos.  My mom and he also had one, while I mooched off both.  My dad helped Peyton get settled with her nachos, as she was getting her hair all in it.  Dave and Brandon were seated on the bleachers, while my mom and I came with the last two nachos.  Brandon had already inhaled his donut!  That thing never had a chance.  Peyton was the last to eat, savoring each bite.  We all took off after that, and came home.  It was already after 2pm by this time.  Luckily, Dave made chicken curry last night, which we hadn’t started to eat, since we were waiting for the flavors to meld.  We had rice that we’d just made, so we served up some curry for us all.  Brandon and my dad played some more catch while I cleaned up the dishes.  Peyton went out there, too, throwing with Dave.  She’d previously been out with my dad playing soccer, but came back in 5 minutes because she was tired (her story; my dad said it was because she was frustrated because he kept taking the ball away from her).  She lasted a lot longer with Dave throwing the ball with her.  It’s like a treat since he’s usually playing with Brandon! Brandon caught the first two balls while I was out there, but once I started filming, I got nothing.  Of course.  Anyways, it was fun having them outside even though it was a bit chilly, and it had warmed up.

My parents had to leave to go to a wedding reception, so we put the kids to bed for a nap. It was 315pm, so I knew everyone was tired, me included.  Brandon took a bath first, then went down, while Peyton climbed in right away.  The next thing I knew, it was 515pm!  Oops.  I woke up before Peyton.  She woke up slightly after, then we headed out to do some errands.  We were trying to figure out what to eat.  Dave was hemming and hawing, and ended up making a few u-turns, to which Brandon said, “Daddy, why are we going in circles.”  Haha.  We finally chose Vietnamese sandwiches, and the kids were excited as they split a chicken rice dish.  Peyton ate just as much as Brandon!  She didn’t care much for the curry, though ate it at lunch, so she was making up for it.  We’d all finished, then she said she had to go potty.  I asked her if she could hold it until we were home (5 minutes away), and she nodded.  That was our cue to get moving, and fast!  We made it home, as I preferred our cleaner bathroom to that of the restaurant.  I got out first, and plopped her on the toilet.  After she was done, I put her in the bath.  It was about 8pm, which was late for them, but considering that we’d all slept late, it was okay.  Especially since we have still half the weekend left, which we still haven’t figured out what to do.  We may go see the 75th GG celebration if we can get past the crowds.

What was amazing was that one of the team moms brought a frosted cake and handed out a huge piece of cake to each teammate!

Pledge of Allegiance

I didn’t know until now, but apparently Peyton knows the “Pledge of Allegiance”, mostly.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Strange sleeping arrangement

This morning, I felt a tap on my shoulder, which I ignored and the tapper went somewhere else.  I thought it was Peyton, since Brandon normally doesn’t come in if there is no noise already from our room.  I thought Peyton had gone into Brandon’s room to bother him, so I got up to investigate.  Upon further inspection, I discovered Peyton was still in her bed, asleep.  I saw that Branodon’s light was on, so I returned to my own room.  I hadn’t been wearing glasses, so I didn’t see things too clearly, but I pretty much pieced things together.  Later, we heard more noise from Brandon’s room, so Dave went to tell Brandon to keep it down.  He stopped by Peyton’s room on the way back and confirmed she was still asleep.  He went again to take a picture of how she was sleeping:
She’d stuffed Daddy’s blanket up her shirt.

I’d gone into her room and saw a bunch of feathers on the floor.  I told Dave she’d either eaten a duck or had been getting them from her pillow.

Mommy’s team

While I was driving both kids home after school, I told the kids that they had to be on Mommy’s team for the next week.  They both gladly agreed, but then at some point, Peyton started fake spitting, which then escalated into an exchange between the two kids. I told Brandon he was older and should be a leader, so he was telling Peyton to  stop.  Peyton continued to sputter.  I told her she wasn’t on my team anymore and that she was on Daddy’s team.  She didn’t take too kindly to being kicked off and started to cry.  I told her those on my team spit only in the sink.  And that those on my team talk nicely to each other and treat each other with respect.  She finally got on board, and she was let back onto the team.

Dave was on a man-date for happy hour with Kenny, so I had the kids for dinner.  I directed Brandon for his bath, then I told Peyton if The sphincter of Oddi dysfunction causes liver, gallbladder viagra for women online and pancreas problems. She said, “Because I LOVE you!”  Awwww..can’t argue with that logic.

Just like Momma

Today, Brandon tripped over one of Peyton’s new shoes that was lying around.  He fell, and started muttering under his breath, “Ooh, that Peyton!  Little shoe!”  I couldn’t help but giggle, since that’s what I say when I trip over Dave’s humungous shoes which he happens to leave right by the door after he takes them off!

Multitasking

Dave came home and took Brandon, who had already eaten and showered, to get the tire changed on the car. It had a nail in it 🙁 So, it was more girl time for Peyton and me today. Since she’d also eaten, we hung out by listening to Taylor Swift and playing a riveting game of Candyland. She won! I tried my best, but she got the better of me. She was happy, needless to say, and I was really “trying” to win since I know she needs practice in the art of losing. But it wasn’t in the cards for me. I took out a bunch of her old toys, and she was very excited. Old meaning 6 months ago. She had also some of Brandon’s old toys that he never took a liking to, interactive computerized-type games with the wand or electronic pen. She was doing too many things, so I had her clean up the worksheets from the electronic pen game, but she was playing with her apple game, which was asking her animal questions. She’d stack some more while the computer congratulated her and then selected another animal. She was pretty good about going back and forth between the two, and managed to clean everything up while still playing with the other game. I gave her a 5 minute warning, and then came back in about 5 minutes. She looked sad, but dutifully turned the on/off switch to off and climbed into bed. She must be tired, because she didn’t fight any part of this. She asked for Daddy’s hug, but I told her he wasn’t home yet. She said, “Daddy can give me a hug when he gets back.”

Brandon’s day

Today, we dropped Peyton off, then headed back to Brandon’s school. It was really chilly today, which is different than it has been all week! It looked like it was supposed to rain even. He really wanted to play in the playground before school, and he told me he would continue to get his greens. His teacher was on yard duty, so it gave me a chance to catch up about yesterday. She was really happy for him, and said he tried really hard all day long. She also told me he was very excited about our past weekend, and told her all about the wedding, what they ate, and who he played with. He told her all about his cousins and swimming with them. After the bell rang, we all walked to flag salute. They had a band concert today, so the kinders all sat in the middle of the assembly since the band had taken over their usual place. The band played three songs, the last being the theme song from Star Wars. I was betting he was super excited about it! I met up with him after the assembly and gave him one last hug and encouragement. He’d told me previously he knew how to get greens – “I just won’t DO anything!” I came back at lunch, and it was lunch in the classroom because of the weather, then dismissal to the playground after the first 20 minutes. Brandon was almost done with his lunch by the time I arrived at the classroom, which was only 2 minutes after it started. He must have eaten most of it at recess. His new thing is if he doesn’t eat his entire lunch, he loses the snack the next day. He’d been not eating the entree and/or veggies and replacing it with CDC snack or his home snack even. He was pretty subdued in the beginning, almost looking tired. I even concentrated on watching the other kids more since he wasn’t giving me trouble at all. Toward the end of the 20 minutes, the kids got a bit antsy, but soon, I dismissed then one table at a time. We headed to the playground, and they were off and running. Again, lunch was unremarkable, except that I benched another kid, since two different people came up to me and told me he had hurt them. A third corroborated the story, and down he went. After their lunch, I went back to my car and ate the lunch I’d brought for myself. It doesn’t make much sense to go home in the 40-45 minutes between end of lunch and end of school, so I’ve just been hanging out in the car. I played with my phone and ate, then headed back to get him. As soon as I saw him, he ran out and said, “I got 15 greens again!” (I’d peeked at lunch and he was going steady with all greens). He was already rattling off which toys he wanted to earn back. I got down what he’d requested, and he got to watch 2 beyblade episodes. He even helped me make a batch of cookies, and tasted one of the rejects. Later, he did some homework with me by reading me a few books, then we went to get Peyton. We don’t have special plans for the weekend yet, but knowing Dave, he won’t be able to sit still here long 🙂
