Back to the Routine! Funny girl

Brandon was dropped off at the park today, and Dave said the kids were in the middle of “Duck, duck, goose,” and saw him.  It’s been over a week since he’s last been at CDC, since it was closed on the last day of school, and I had him out the Friday before we left.  Dave said the kids called him over to join their game, and he happily joined the game.  Glad to know that he is being included and missed!  I think it’s great for his self-esteem 🙂

Tonight, while Dave was still working, I picked up the kids, fed them and bathed them before doing some evening activities.  Brandon did a homework coupon, which required him to look through a newspaper (who has those anymore), so I handed him the UCLA magazine and had him look for his tasks.  He was to find number words and then he reminded me, color words.  While he was doing this, Peyton was playing with her camera that she’d gotten last year.  Brandon and I were her subjects, but since we were otherwise engaged, she had to make due.  She was “directing” me how to look, and where.  Here are some of her shots:  YES, she lined up the gadgety thing over the picture as she was taking it.

Body pillow

I forgot to mention when on vacation, I mostly slept with Peyton.  She and Brandon alternated time being on the bed, but usually, I was with her.  We’d either sandwich her on the bed, or I’d stay with her on the floor. The last night, Dave stayed with her, and in the middle of the night, she asked him, “Mommy, can I have some water?”  Dave had water nearby, so he gave it to her.  I asked him if he corrected her, and he said he didn’t.  He left that morning to take my parents to the airport, so I went down there with her, as I’d told her I’d sleep Then I met my generic levitra mastercard browse around that now present wife…Well if you want to know more and see photos go to our webpage. Just as she’s always liked rubbing my rough elbows with her fingers, like she did when she nursed (that, and tapping my side) and even now when she’s falling asleep.  Quirky.

Tall enough?

Today, I was measuring the kids up to see if they were tall enough for their next growth chart picture. They weren’t quite there at either of their last birthday visits. I saw May today at the festival, and she was talking about the new Cars ride. The minimum height is 40 inches. So, I wanted to see if Peyton was tall enough. I measured her with the tape measure we were given at work. It does seem doable given they have FPasses.

Catching up

This morning, the kids woke up at 845AM. Peyton came in to our room, and Dave was going to send her back before I told him what time it was. Shortly after she awoke, Brandon came into the room. We hung out this morning, then I got ready to go to my volunteer shift at work. There was a booth that I had to man for a few hours, so I left the kids while they watched a movie. I worked for a few hours, but they were able to visit me while at work. They made it just in time to share a froyo from our favorite place YL. I beat them home, as they were still out running errands. They picked me up, and we headed out to enjoy the rest of the beautiful day. Too bad I didn’t know what the plans were, since I hadn’t had a chance to change from my “work” volunteer clothes. In fact, as we were strolling around and shopping in stores, people thought I was the hired helped. I blame the official looking tshirt I was wearing. We headed home to eat our leftover chicken from yesterday. We’d made tarts from berries Dave and Peyton got from the farmer’s market yesterday. I’d made them with the kids before I left. Peyton kept asking, “May I have a tar?” Later, after Brandon also asked for the tart, she added the final T to the word, but it was funny for awhile. Both kids were bathed and in bed by 745pm. Peyton had only slept a little bit in the car, and tried to finagle both a book and her music when I’d offered her a choice of one or the other. She chose the book, then tried to ask for her music, with lots of tears to follow. She finally stopped crying, and seemed to understand no one was coming to her rescue. She must have fallen asleep shortly after that, as I checked on her and there was no movement. Brandon should be out soon, since he didn’t sleep today. I think we’re back to our normal sleep schedule just in time for our regular day tomorrow. Because I was at work, I didn’t take my afternoon nap which is just as well, since I did so yesterday, and ended up staying up until after midnight!

Learning

We did some educational stuff on vacation, such as keeping a journal. Brandon is working hard on his writing. Today after swimming, Dave took Peyton, who was unwilling, but lured by prospect of samples at both the farmer’s markets and TJ’s. I stayed home with Brandon and reviewed all his kindergarten sight words, reviewing their spelling, and reading and spelling his first grade words. He can read 99% of them (he missed “goes”) and can spell about half of them. I built in a points system to reward him for properly spelled words as well as good penmanship. He was to get 90% to get his punishment from earlier erased. He did earn above 90% on his kinder spelling, but only about 75% on his first grader spelling. I told him we were just doing a pre-test on his spelling, and we’d continue to work on it through the summer and do a post-test. He was totally willing! What was a bit sad was that in order for me to focus on Brandon, I had to turn down Peyton’s request to practice her letters and numbers. She can now do 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s. I’ll have to spend more time with her, too, since she is so eager! I’m still trying to work on getting Brandon to sit in his chair. It helped today when I got him a pillow, since he wanted to sit on the couch. I agreed to let him sit on the pillow if he stayed at the table. We’re still working on getting his attention span to be longer and longer. Actually, we worked on sitting at the table for almost 1.5 hours! We were at the table the entire time that Dave was gone. Later this evening, Brandon wanted to do some more, choosing some of his coupons from school. Ms Song had given us some coupons that have random tasks spanning different subjects. He pulled out one to practice making his numbers, so I also had him spell the corresponding words. He wanted to continue, and later pulled out another coupon that asked him to draw 3 California or national symbols and describe them. He chose to draw the Statue of Liberty, and was able to tell me where it was. He also selected the Liberty Bell, and told me where that could be found, and then finally the American flag. He was a few stars short (okay, lots), and had only 6 red stripes, though he knew there were supposed to be 7 (I had to google it!). When he’s fully fed and rested (he napped for over 2 hours this afternoon), then he really can focus. At bedtime, both kids had a hard time getting into their routine. They both went down fine, but both came out with random complaints. Peyton needed to go potty, while Brandon said he was having a nightmare. Dave told him he had to be asleep before he could have a nightmare. Haha…I couldn’t help by smirk (I had to look away). They were told in order for us to go on vacation again, they had to go to sleep! That did it, and they both did not come out after that.

Swim lessons!

Today was the first time both kids were on their own for swim lessons.  Peyton has been prepped for this day for some time now.  She was very excited, but when she got in the water, she didn’t really listen to the teacher, who told her to put her chin in the water and blow bubbles.  I moved back from the edge of the pool, and she was listening more after that.  It is better to not have parents hover, and let the teachers do their thing.  Some other parents at the pool didn’t get it.  In fact, one dad told the wife that she was going to be one of those parents who rents an apartment next to their kid in college since she was hovering over the pool and ignoring the requests of the life guard to step back.  In fact, this dad went on to say this is the reason that kids are The things we learned as children are teachings that can build character buy cheap viagra but they can also be treated using yoga and meditation techniques. Vacation recap

I didn’t blog while out, since it’s pretty hard to do so on the ipad or phone.  Plus, I had all these pictures to upload 🙂

We hung around and went to a sushi place for Father’s day, with just the four of us.  Dave missed out on dinner since he wasn’t around.  In the morning, Peyton and I set out to pick up the other half of our family.  I wanted to take Peyton so she had time for a nap.  And as soon as we got on the freeway, nap she did.  Full on drool.  She stayed asleep even after I picked the boys up.  She woke up on our first of several shave ice stops.  She looked a bit confused, but she quickly understood what was going on when she fully came to.  We went to a place that Joyce had suggested but we wanted to eat lunch first.  We found a mix plate place to eat first, then headed over.  Dave likes taking pictures of us from the street view.
Here was stop #1: very fine ice, good selection of flavors:

We headed back to our hotel to meet up with Kyle.  They were staying at the resort right by us, so it was perfect.  They let us into their place, and the boys enjoyed the water slide (too thrilling for Peyton, so she watched with me) and all enjoyed the lazy river.  After that, we had some story telling from Uncle Aito and the menehune, and then we left to get cleaned up for dinner.  Here are some pictures from dinner.    We were right out on the balcony, and Peyton preferred to listen to the musicians than join us for dinner.  Later, she did play with the boys and their toys.  We quickly finished dinner so we could enjoy the luau at the hotel.  Here are some photos from that. Kyle was pretty sleepy, as was Brandon.  He declared after the show was done, “I want to go home to sleep.”  This kid, really?  Peyton wanted to take pictures with the characters, so we stuck Brandon in the stroller, while I went around to take pictures with Peyton.  Here are some (we woke Brandon up for the mouse!):

We walked home, and the kids went right to bed.

The next day, we were going to make use of our car.  But first, we had to stop down at the beach.  We ended up doing this every morning since the kids got up so early (around 7am, their usual time; definitely could have been worse!).  We drove to the North Shore, and did the pineapple plantation along with the “famous” shave ice.  We definitely didn’t think it was better than day 1. It was raining a bit, so that slowed us down, but not our picture-taking efforts:

Another store front photo:

We headed home for a nap.  We hung out at the resort, and we went to another mixed plate place that my parents had checked out the night before.  Brandon and my parents walked while Peyton, Dave and I drove.
The next day, we headed to the lagoon and pool.  We stayed there quite a long time!  Brandon had fun with the water slide, while Peyton had fun doing her head bobs and trying to swim.  She can dunk herself in the water, push off the side, and kick toward us.  She can get at least 2-3 body lengths from where she started.  We hung out poolside, then we all came back while the kids took their naps.  Dave and I snuck out for some groceries – poke and some clothes!  We were planning for my cousins to come over for a BBQ; well, we were told to get chips and drinks, while my cousins were bringing the meat and everything else.  After we got home, Dave took Brandon to golf!  The clubs were free, and the bucket of balls was $5.  Great deal!  Brandon had to hit all the balls, since the clubs were lefty, and short for Dave.  When Brandon was coming home, he asked Dave, “I can do this at home, right?”  Peyton and I checked out the craft faire in the hotel lobby, and went to try to hotel shave ice.  Dave came home and asked her, “Did you have something while we were gone?”  Peyton didn’t want to tell him, telling him she forgot, and finally, he prompted her asking her, “Was it something cold?”  She finally whispered, “Shave ice.” Dave, my mom, Peyton and I went out to go get dinner, and went to get different things. I wanted a salad, and the rest got Mexican food.  Peyton melted down when I got mad at her that her spoon was clean, when she felt it wasn’t.  She just burst into tears!  Dave had also told Brandon that he could sleep on the bed (they’d been switching off).   We couldn’t figure it out at first, but when she calmed down, and I started asking her questions, she nodded at my offense.  Brandon was falling asleep while eating, so we told him he didn’t have to finish.  He didn’t complain at all.  It was 730pm.  Peyton went to sleep an hour later again without any complaint.  We’ve just worn these kids out!

The final full day started out at the water, as it had the first four.  We all headed to the water after a thorough lubing up.  We stayed close as my cousins were headed over to drop off food.  We thought they were going surfing, but it turns out they were going to stay with us until dinner.  We had swordfish steaks, hamburgers with all the trimmings, and our chips, watermelon, and drinks that we’d gotten.  My uncle used to work as a chef in a hotel, so Dave didn’t want to touch the cooking aspect with a 10 – foot pole.  Everything was yummy, and we even put the kids to bed before the cousins left.  Peyton stayed up until 11pm!  She waited until they all left; she didn’t want to come hang out with them even after I’d invited her to.  Brandon had fallen asleep long before that, but she was content to hang out in the room alone.  This helped later on…

We got up early to go into town before boarding our flight.  We went to the grocery store we’d found on our last trip.  We bought some spicy ahi rolls, bento boxes, and another bowl of poke.  We enjoyed it on our flight, as it was too early to eat them when we first bought them.  I don’t think the people on our flight appreciated it, but as Dave said, “Who cares?”  Haha…we only get this stuff not too often, so live it up!  Peyton fell asleep before the plane even took off, and she slept for over 3 hours!  The late night partying the night before got to her.  She slept longer because I was able to lift the arm rest and have her lean against me.  I had drool all over my hand, but at least she slept.  Brandon was doing workbook pages next to me, and then watched Lion King. Peyton woke up right as it was finished, but she doesn’t have the attention span to watch a full movie.  Go figure.  Brandon was completely entertained the entire time the movie was on.  He didn’t sleep at all!  We got home at 9pm, only to have not eaten dinner, so we found a place to eat quickly.  We got the kids into bed by 11pm, after a bath.  We will have to adjust them to PST soon, before school starts again!  I had to set my alarm this morning to get us all up for swim lessons.  More on that in a bit.

Grown up!

Just this morning, Peyton is sounding so grown up! We kept her up until about 830 yesterday, which is really 1130. I was afraid she’d wake up at 330am but fortunately she slept until 6am. Not bad! And she didn’t fall off the bed, though she made me worry about her all night long. She started moving around, and I tried to ignore her.
