Today, Dave wanted to take Peyton out to the park to bat. He’d had her in the backyard earlier in the week, but was upset with her when she hit his hand with the bat. She was really sad, but she’d hit when she wasn’t given the okay. Dave was so mad, and he told her Brandon had NEVER done that. He was shocked it happened. So, he was giving her another try, and she solemnly told him she wouldn’t do it again. Brandon wasn’t ready to go, so I told him that he’d have to go on foot. Dave and Peyton headed to the closest high school, and my plan was to do a few laps, then run home. Brandon wasn’t happy to go on foot, but I set out at a quicker pace to start. He ran for a little bit, then slowed down, at which time I ran back to him. I was planning on doing some sprints back and forth to him to check in on him, when I saw Dave coming back my way. I was also carrying two water bottles, so I was happy to see the car. I dumped Brandon off with Dave, along with the water bottles, and Dave told me the field was too busy, and he was heading to the middle school. It was a better feeling not having to worry about Brandon. When I got to the middle school, about a mile away, I didn’t see any sign of them. Then, I looked at my phone and noticed Dave’s text that that was full as well, and he was moving on to the park back toward our house. We normally play baseball at this park, but I had to think about how to get there from the middle school, as I’m not usually going from that point to the park. Luckily, it was close enough, and I did see them at the baseball diamond. It was getting warm, and I welcomed the break. As I got up to the field, I wanted to video Peyton without her knowing I was there. So I got some footage behind the backstop. When I did reveal myself, she was still focused, and she didn’t care that I was filming. So I continued…

Hit and Run – we had a hard time convincing her to run! We told her it was part of the game, and we were done if she didn’t run. That got her…
At the end, Dave tried to pitch-toss them to her, but she wasn’t making contact. Still too soon 😉

Then, I hit off the tee for a few balls. Brandon was busy trying to jump rope, while Peyton was in the dugout as requested, drinking her water. She did come out while we were shagging balls, and brought me her helmet. She wanted to make sure I wore it. It did fit, so I took a few more swings while wearing the helmet, setting a good example for them. Then, Dave ended by taking a few swings himself. He’d just gotten the bat and wanted to see how it felt. Brandon and I walked/ran home, while Peyton went home with Dave. Brandon only agreed to come with me if we walked, but I did convince him to race me on several stretches. I wanted him to pretend he was base-running to make sure he’s quick. Dave later took Brandon out on his own to field and hit. Peyton was happy to hang out at home and watch Brave with me.
Tonight, after dinner, Dave and Peyton were watching baseball on tv. Dave asked Peyton if she’s ready to play. It was an emphatic “YES”. We’ll see…she’s told us “yes” before with other activities. Hopefully we can get her feeling confident about it, and she will be willing to get out there.
I even asked her what number Buster Posey was, and she replied, “28. I know, because I see people wearing shirts at school.”
Now, Dave’s out to run around the neighborhood, while I’m holding down a sleeping fort.
