This morning, we were out of the house by 730 am. Well, we had to arrive by then, but we ran about a minute late. Peyton and I helped set up for the CC symphony as strings was joining band for their joint performance of Star Wars theme. They played it last night, too, but this was in front of the whole school. It was breezy, which made for an interesting time as the music and music stands were blowing away. After the introduction, each band played one song, then they combined efforts for one last song. The band played out the assembly, but I’d left earlier to help set up the art lesson. We were doing water coloring for the older kids. In theory, it would be easier, as they are older, but there are also more of them. We had three moms, and then one who joined later after coffee with the principal. There are so many things going on in May it’s ridiculous!
The art lesson went well, and we ran right up until recess at 10 am. From there, I went next door to see Peyton’s class perform their drama lessons. The other moms teased me that I was first in line (probably like Peyton, who generally likes to be first in line). I did let them know that I’d been there since 730 am, and it was now 1030 am, so I was rightfully the first in line, since I hadn’t left school all morning. They had rehearsed and memorized poems from Shel Silverstein. Peyton didn’t want to tell me what poem she was reciting, but she did tell me about her classmates’ roles. Peyton was actually starting the show! She did “The Invitation”. Then they did some improv, passing around an object with each child having to “name” it and act it out. Then, they had to do another improv, where they were asked what they are doing, and then given an action from a friend. Then it was an exercise in tableau.

After their performance, I went out for a treat. PHILZ! I haven’t had coffee since before I was sick, so I wanted to make up for lost time. And to enjoy it peacefully. I had a PTA meeting, so I left for that, while Dave took the kids home to eat and shower up. I got home after 9 pm, and I had a mom instinct to check on Peyton. She was still complaining about a headache when they got home from the game. I went in to check on her, and she had heat emanating off of her! I grabbed the thermometer and had her check. He also admitted to speaking poorly of Brandon, again, not a bother to Brandon, but other teachers reported it happening. Luckily, Brandon never did anything to him outside of the dodgeball PE arena. He’s got less than a month to go!
The rest of the concert went well, and we met Dave at home. The teams tied, again! The kids didn’t get to bed until after 9 pm. SO LATE! And we have to be back at school by 730 am for the last band performance in front of the school.

Then I went to work for less than two hours to return to get Peyton first. We went to the book fair and home to practice piano. Then we went to get Brandon who had to do the same. This morning, Dave took Peyton out to the batting cages at 730 am. Her game was at 9 and she was supposed to arrive at 815. I got her there at 820 because Dave got home late with her. From there, at 1145, we all drove over to Peyton’s end of the season party. We had pizza though the kids are what I’d bought us to share as a family. The team got a basket of goodies and a poster printed by one of the moms. Coach had something nice to say for each girl on their buckets. After the party, I was going to take Peyton back to the car races. Someone had been racing for her since she was absent. But the races were all done. We missed our clean up shift as a result so we had two more hours back in our day. Dave wanted round two of his lunch so we went to get snow ice and food for him. After that, he took Peyton home for a nap while i took Brandon to do errands. When we got home, Brandon showered and we all took naps, well except Brandon. When Peyton woke up, we took her to go check her bike for the triathlon next weekend on Sunday. We didn’t have other time to do that so now was as good a time for that. We headed over to the closing ceremonies for softball. After all the teams were introduced and called up, they called up all the girls that were playing summer league.
