This morning, Peyton wanted to get up and out to sell cookies at a booth at 8 am. It was our only time to get in a booth today, and she was all for it. I set the alarm for 7 am, and she was in our room just a few minutes before that. She got herself up and ready to go so that we were out there by 755 am, minus her vest but plus her bright new t-shirt “ONE tough cookie”. I texted Dave for vest reinforcement, and he brought it to us. Luckily, we were nearby. We sold for 1.5 hours, then I rushed her over to softball practice at 10 am. Dave and Brandon were already out there, with Brandon pitching to Dave. We were at the kids’ pre-school big field, but looking at the school from the other side. It was a bit of a trip, since we’d been there for at least 5 years and used to fly kites on that field.
We met up with the team, stayed for the team meeting, then I took Brandon to his basketball game at 11 am. I stayed with Brandon for his whole game, and he played a bunch of big kids who were pushing them around. Brandon had set a legal screen, and the kid came up to him and hip-checked him and sent him flying. Poor Brandon never had a chance. There was no blocking call. There were other kids who were crashing down on the floor from Brandon’s team, and it was ugly. Fortunately, no one got really hurt. We came home, and I fed him lunch. Then, we practiced piano since he wanted to play LIFE when Peyton got home. She got home, and she quickly ate lunch, then we had to rush off to her basketball game. She had problems listening to her coach (Ryan) and her dad again. She just wanted to shoot, and she wasn’t passing, so instead of point guard, coach Ryan made her #2, and H was #1. Luckily, Peyton did okay with that, and she managed her position well, getting a few steals in the process. She got a talking to during the game, and then after, they made up. He explained to her that he knows he’s harsh on her, and that he is pushing her to be a better player. She had no hard feelings, and we came home and showered everyone up. Then, it was Peyton’s turn to practice piano. When she was done, we played LIFE as promised. Then the kids played two games by themselves before Dave went out to get Brandon’s cake with Brandon. Peyton stayed home with me and wrote out her V-day cards to her classmates. She enjoyed the dinner that I’d made, despite leaving the chicken in the oven a little too long. She enjoyed the sweet potatoes I’d roasted. When Brandon came home, he ate the same thing, and both complimented me on dinner. Then, I said, “See, I can cook just as well as Daddy!” Brandon, ever the daddy’s boy, said, “Ah, no, you cannot.” Oh well…at least they ate what I made willingly and both asked for more. They were sent to bed later than intended as both were excited about tomorrow, Brandon’s friend birthday party. We’re going to see lego batman with a dozen boys and a few girls. Then, we have Brandon’s basketball game, while I take Peyton to a friend’s birthday golfing party. She’ll be the only girl there, but I’m sure she’ll have fun. Then, we will be going to basketball practice for Peyton, and then finally, she will end her day with her final batting cage session. Never a dull moment around here…
