Today I had the day off to chaperone the second grade field trip to the symphony. I dropped the kids off then walked to Safeway to get breakfast and coffee. I’d made coffee at home but left it there. I’d planned to get breakfast but threw in a coffee while I was there. I wanted to get exercise so it was good in any case. While at drop off, i checked in with the teacher. Peyton let me know we’d forgotten her school t shirt. The teacher said it wasn’t a big deal. I’d wanted her to dress up a bit since we were going to the symphony after all. She was wearing a dress and her boots with a cardigan layer and jacket. We had good weather even though it didn’t start out that way. The drive was long to the city but uneventful. H fell asleep as she’d had a long weekend. Peyton looked a bit green and was quiet most likely because she had no one to talk to. She rebounded when we passed the museum where we’d visited this weekend. She recognized the helicopter. H woke up before we got to the city and was refreshed. We disembarked from the bus and lined up for our entry time. One kid from a different school was not doing well and was throwing up on the sidewalk.
We found our seats inside and I took pictures of the girls. They knew the drill.
There was no video or pictures while the symphony was recording. The conductor broke down the various parts of what we were seeing: conductor, composer, musicians, and audience. The symphony played pieces that highlighted each of these. “Flight of the bumblebee” was a highlight. The kids really enjoyed it. I was sitting far from Peyton, who was sitting next to her teacher. I had the chatty boy who was talking aloud not caring if anyone was listening or not. Poor H and I got an earful for almost 45 minutes. And I was stuck between two boys who had ants in their pants and couldn’t keep their feet still.
We wrapped up our time by eating our lunch across from city hall. We had lots of sun! The girls wanted a shot of city hall behind them so we did that, too.
The ride back was peytons turn to sleep. She threw her jacket over her head and “turned out the lights”. H stayed up and I think they were trying to see if I was sleeping. I did snooze for a bit.
Two smiles to start the day.
