This weekend, I was in Manteca with Peyton, while Dave and Brandon stayed closer to home. He had games roughly the same times that Peyton did. Dave texted me that he had a home run, but he also said he didn’t film it. Luckily, he was able to get it off the field camera.
Here it is:
Early this morning, I was able to watch one live. But I wasn’t filming the hit, and only got him as he was running the bases.
In the morning, Dave headed to work, while the kids got their weekend homework done. Peyton had to read, practice piano, and clean up before we watched the Royal Wedding. She couldn’t wait, so she got all of that done quickly. We snuggled up to watch from the beginning, as the guests were arriving. With almost each guest, she would ask me, “Who is that?” The only exception: Oprah. We watched almost the whole thing before it was time for lunch and her to get ready for her basketball game. We headed down to that after Dave got home from work.
Peyton was the tallest member of her team at tip off; H and the other taller 3rd grader were not in attendance. Peyton held it down for the tip off. There is strict defense for the first 3 quarters of the game. The other team is not allowed to defend before the three point line, and it is a warning if you do it once. The second time, it was a technical foul. Peyton was asked to shoot free throws, and by this time, we were scoreless. She got it close, but no cigar in two attempts. I think this was the first time she shot free throws without anyone rebounding or around the key. The game ended up a lot to too little, and that meant the season was over. We headed to dinner with the team, and hung out before going back closer to home to practice softball at the high school. Brandon had volleyball after, so he was with us, too. He started climbing the bleacher stairs on his own, so I went to join him for a workout. We timed each other, and he was faster than me by a few seconds. Soon, we moved back to the football field, and we started sprinting at 50 yards. He was at a disadvantage because he would giggle, thus causing me to giggle as well. Finally, I asked Dave to record us, and Peyton counted down, so it was official.
After we were done, we reviewed the recording, and Brandon asked, “Is this thing on slo motion?” Haha, nope, it’s just us. We’re slow. But I’m still faster than slow.
Maybe because I had an awesome cheer section:
Yeah, it was cold out there.

Dave dropped us off at home after dropping Brandon off at volleyball. After showering, Peyton stayed up to watch the ucla softball game until the boys returned home and both kids were sent to bed.
The next day, Peyton had her piano recital, but Brandon had baseball practice. Dave dropped him off first, while I got Peyton to the recital to warm up. She was reluctant to practice with anyone around but she did lightly touch the keys. She was toward the second half of the program, arranged somewhat by complexity of songs.
Here is her performance:
This is a piece from her level 5 book. I think I played this in middle school or 5th grade at the earliest. She didn’t think she could memorize 5 pages worth of music, but little by little, she got it together. She really wanted to learn it, and worked hard at it since late February, early March.
She also worked on her brownie patch for her family artifact presentation:
She did this in a few takes, and I did a little teleprompter action and held up her presentation, to look less like she read from her paper. She hadn’t practiced enough to memorize that, and we just needed to get it done.
I didn’t commit to host father daughter this year despite doing so the past two years. Last year, p and Dave had to leave early and we were spread too thin with Brandon in basketball clinics. But I did agree to help day-of set up. The theme was masquerade. I went to work in the morning and returning to get p and help set up the Multi.
I knew that her being there with her friends setting up would make her want to go. Halfway through prep, I asked her if she wanted to come back. She said, “Yes.” I had her text Dave, but I knew he wasn’t willing. But I knew since she’d asked him he’d turn it around.
We finished up the decorations by 4.
She did her share of fluffing Pom poms.

That gave her plenty of time to go home, practice Piano, eat and change. I got her ready before Dave came home. He begrudgingly changed and told me “This is as good as it’s going to get,” with his golf shirt and slacks. I took them out back for some pictures:

I had them recreate some pictures of their first dance together:

She laughed and knew I’ve seen them in concert at least 8 times, if not more.
Yesterday was a one day softball tourney with a potential to play 5 games depending on where a team fell in the rankings. I headed out with Peyton’s teammate who came to pick us up, as Dave and Brandon had a baseball game at the same time as Peyton’s first game. They played two games, at 930 am and 11 am. Peyton played second base for the first game, while she sat the second game, but batted.
I think she got mad at the other team, since as she came up to bat, since she’s little, they said, “Play up!”
The coach’s goal for the girls is to hit it right back at the pitcher. They critiqued Peyton and told her she should have gotten to second base on that hit, since the ball went toward the dugout after ricocheting off the pitcher’s shin.

Here is a hit to her soon to be summer teammate in Florida:
The team went 1-1 for the first two games, then they played at 2 pm. They beat that team, which I didn’t think we would, as they were the favorite. We then went on to the play the championship game at 5pm. We had picnic foods, veggies and fruit to keep the girls fed. Peyton was allowed one gatorade since it was a warm day, and she was playing multiple games. The championship game started as a pitcher’s duel, but in the end, there was on inning where the defense fell apart, and we didn’t score the runs we needed to catch up. The team earned a second place medal. They had a long day, and everyone but Dave went to sleep on the ride home. The team is improving, and will continue to do so over the rest of spring into summer.
As we were getting ready for brunch today, Peyton said, “I think I look like you.” I asked her, “Well, is that a bad thing?” She responded, “No, I guess not.” Right answer especially on Mother’s Day.
She had woken me up early this morning (645am) to give me a present:
She said she had to hide it under her bed as her teacher said, “Your moms always check your folders. So you need to hide this somewhere.” She ended up falling back asleep with me until it was time to get up to get ready for brunch with the family.
Later, Peyton accusingly asked Brandon, “You didn’t get Mommy anything?” He just responded that, “We don’t have time for things like this (the card) at school.” Fair enough, Brandon.

Actually, erectile process requires swift and suitable functioning of hormones, blood vessels, nervous system, muscles, blood system, and others. We went to brunch with my mom and aunts and uncles with my grandma.
Then we headed to my moms for a bit where p practiced piano for my cousin, with whom she barely talks because he’s always trying to get her to talk to him. She played her recital piece twice for him and his wife, then played another song that she learned a couple of weeks ago.
We left my moms for a basketball game against a team who had beaten them earlier in the season. Peyton was confident they’d win if hope was there. Last game she wasn’t. This time she was there. The team still didn’t win but it was closer so more progress. Peyton did score the first basket, a free throw then had a block, a few steals and assists. Hope scored five baskets! We really did need her! P wasn’t at point guard and the team couldn’t get the ball past their defense. Ryan had commented that they put Peyton at point with hope and another girl down low. But the closest Peyton got was when she had a steal and took it down herself.
After basketball, we headed to see ready player one as it’s still in the theater. Dave wanted to make sure we saw it in the theater. It was good! Now I have to catch up by reading the book, especially before Brandon gives it away.
Last night, Brandon dropped something on the couch while headed to bed, and muttered, “I’m just going to leave my dance ticket here.” I didn’t give it a second thought, as I was rushing them off to bed to finish up my recertification test submission. This morning, I saw the ticket that said the dance was this Friday! I asked him if he went to get the ticket with his friends. He was #11, and said on his way to his last class, saw there was no line to get tickets so went to get his. He didn’t want to wait in line. I asked him who else of his friends were going or if he discussed going to the dance with his friends. First Friday went on for Cuatro de Mayo at our neighbor’s/schoolmate’s house, who hosted it. Peyton and I went, while the boys went to the movies to see the Avengers movie before anyone else ruined it for them. P had a great time hanging with the girls, while I chatted with the moms.
Saturday was all softball. Brandon missed his baseball game and vball clinic as we headed to tailgate by 8 am. P had her jersey on and two of her teammates, who coordinated with the same outfits. We had Peyton’s UCLA ball from last year, which was given to her for shagging foul balls at the Stanford game. We had a sharpie and she was all set. Her teammates had tickets behind homeplate, and we had tickets in the bleachers/general admission. We tailgated for almost 4 hours, watching batting practice from behind the fence catching four foul balls. Dave tried to catch one barehanded! Another coach caught a ball to protect his windshield. Another ball hit off a tree otherwise it would have cracked another coach’s window. Then, when it was game time, we headed in. The pitchers were both lights out, and it was a low scoring game as a result. Her coaches gave her their ticket half way through the game, so she joined her friends for the last half of the game.
After the win, Dave took her out where the players were exiting for the bus, which was parked just by our cars in the side parking lot. She got many of the players. I had been standing behind the head coach in the restroom line, as there was only one set of bathrooms for the entire stadium, players and coaches included. But Dave had told me to bring up our mutual friend, but I hadn’t seen the text just yet. But he did when we got her autograph, and she totally warmed up when she heard that we knew that friend. She saw Peyton’s jersey, and told us that was a great organization. Dave found it reassuring that she knew of the organization, just as the founder had informed the parents. We got pictures with most of those whose autographs she had, though some had to rush off to the bus.
Here they are:

We then headed to dinner with the coaches for Mexican dinner on Cinco de mayo. We had to wait for our table and one teammate’s dad knew the staff. He put the kids to work folding a stack of napkins. These kids took the job seriously.
four of them worked to fold that stack!
Our night ended after 9 pm, over 12 hours from when it started.
We all slept in on Sunday, with Peyton coming into our room, and then falling back asleep. Her first activity was basketball, then her piano party to practice for their recital, and finally her friend’s play. We were supposed to go to the play last night, but bailed because of getting back late from dinner. So, it was a bit unexpected for us to show up today, but our friend saved us tickets in the third row. We had great seats and had arrived just in time to start the show.
Peyton saw other friends, a t-ball teammate, a softball teammate, and one of Brandon’s baseball organization’s kid. We knew that the softball teammate was there because as we arrived, we heard “Hi, Peyton!” I was scrambling for our seat, but Peyton saw her friend’s older brother and acknowledged him. We were able to take pictures with Peyton’s friend after the show was done, but I could tell Peyton was so tired. It was over an hour and a half show, and a few times, I felt her head lean up against my shoulder.
