Relativity

Peyton’s softball friends are signing up for basketball to play with her and Dave as coach. They are fourth graders of a 3-4th grade team. I was telling her that last year, she was the big fish and tempering it that this year, she’d be the small fish. Just to keep her in check with her expectations. She seemed to understand. But then said, “We’ll, at least I’m not a dead fish. Dead fish are the ones who’ve never played before. At least I’ve played before and being a small fish is better than a dead one.” Logic I can’t argue with!

Last night at softball camp, coach asked the girls to go to the positions where they normally play. The girls all spread themselves out on the field, minus pitcher and catcher. The spread was pretty even except the two youngest went to shortstop. They were our usual short stop and Peyton. She normally plays second on her new team, but short on her old team. They got to all of their balls and fired to their third basemen who were all big girls.

Tourney Weekend x 2

This weekend, Peyton was participating in a Halloween tournament. The team was going to be individual emoji’s, but the order didn’t come together in time, so the coach ran around looking for an alternate shirt. He ended up getting the same shirt with different emoji’s, and it worked out perfectly. Peyton was so-so on the emoji that she’d gotten assigned (the hug emoji). They had coordinating socks and a hair tie as well. Our friend picked up her uniform on Friday night and gave it to us at basketball practice. I had Brandon at baseball, and I’d met them over at the gym when it was done.

Saturday morning, I got up and went to the field with Peyton’s teammate and my mom friend. They’re dad and son were coming over later, even though I offered to drive us. Dave was a maybe whether they’d make it, since Brandon’s game ended at 230 pm, while Peyton played at 930 am and 2 pm. They took care of the first game, beating a team we’ve beaten before, but it was close 8-7.

We went to lunch with some of the team. We went to pho, and the girls all sat together, while the moms all sat on one side of the table. We went back to the game, and it was our friend from softball camp’s team. We’d lost to them before, but it was a close game last time. This time, it was also close, and we lost 7-5. Dave was able to catch most of that game, as Brandon’s game ended early as they got spanked.

We transferred our stuff from one car to the other, and then we were all invited to have pizza at the coach’s house. We picked up some veggies and headed over to play. The kids all played together, while the parents hung out. The family lives in an area where there are wild turkeys. I didn’t believe it, but when we were leaving, my friend all of a sudden stepped on the brakes. There was a turkey blocking the way out of the cul de sac. It played chicken with her, stepping in front of her, going to the left, and then blocking to the right. I have photos of the turkey on both sides of her car, while she was screaming inside. The dad behind me had video!

We made it home safely, as Dave quickly side stepped the turkey. If I didn’t see it myself, I would have never believed it. We got the kids showered up and then off to bed, as it was an early wake up time for us all. Both kids had games at 8 am, meaning that we had to be up by 6 am, and for us, out of the house by 630 am. We were the first of our team to arrive, just before 7 am. We got settled, and Peyton had a birthday gift for her coach. She wrote the card after I helped her make it the night before. We got a red bull (his drink of choice) and a photo I’d bought at a previous tourney.

The first game, we handled the first team, which was still part of the pool play. We were then seeded in the top half, the gold bracket to face a higher ranked team. We had a big break, and this time, we headed to breakfast. Four girls sat together, while the moms and one dad hung out at our own table. We were able to eat, and then went back to the field to play the first bracket game. It was a single elimination tournament. We started off to a strong lead, but unfortunately, they came back. Dave was able to make it for a few innings, before he had to return for Brandon’s second game. After her game wrapped up, we headed down to his game. She fell asleep in the car, but woke up as I exited the freeway.

The highlights of the weekend were the coach’s birthday, with Peyton handing him his gift. The first game on Sunday, Peyton played right field, to allow another girl to play second, which is where Peyton normally hangs out. So, she and another little girl, smaller than P, were playing center (Victoria) and right. On two outs, there was a bomb hit to right field. Peyton had to drop step, and run behind her to track the ball. Her glove was turned around on a backhand, and she miraculously made it to the ball to snag it out of the air. The crowd erupted in cheers! The coaches pointed at me, and smiled. The head coach came up to me and said, “You like how I know where to put her!? She learned that from the clinic on Wednesday! That’s what they practiced!” I told them all that I texted Dave, “My daughter caught the ball!” As opposed to “YOUR son doesn’t know how to run the bases.”

I didn’t get it on video; the other parents kidded with me since I usually get offensive plays on record, but I will always remember that catch!

Here’s Brandon’s hit from Sunday to tie up the game:
The coach of the younger team that Peyton could still play with was there scouting her. She lead off all of the games, and she doesn’t like it. I told him she didn’t like it, and he said he usually gets the mentally tough kids to lead off, as they can stand up to the pressure. He kept asking how she is doing. I did brag to him about the catch that she had. Their team had lost all three games they played on Sunday, some by a lot of runs. They didn’t score at all in 3 games. I told him that Peyton was NOT the youngest player on the team. He asked who else was on the team that was younger, and if she wanted to come play with him. Nice try, dude. Peyton doesn’t want to play either. But I can’t tell him that. She really loves the team she’s on now. So much so that I had to pin down one of the coaches that got us on this team on Saturday night. He got uncomfortable with the question to the point that he got up and left the area. Later, one mom had to text him to explain what he meant by his cryptic answer.

In the morning, before the first game, the coach came up to us and said, “Hey, I don’t want you talking to other teams. I’m territorial.” I thought he meant that we couldn’t go say “good morning” to another team. He said he had something in the works, and he was going to let us know soon, but he was going to have space for us for spring and summer. He wants to have tourneys in spring and summer, and even go to LA. We’re good!

next weekend, we have another halloween tournament with the other team. We have another shirt ready to go – Taco hot sauce packets!

In other news, we’ve had a week long of softball practice and clinic. She attended Santa Clara’s camp last night and had team practice Tuesday and Thursday. She asked me if there would be kids who have never played before. As I drove up and saw a girl who i thought was a coach say she attends many of these camps (she was parking her own car), I leaned over to Peyton and told her, “You might be the worst player out here!” I was wrong. She was probably the second greenest kid out there. And the youngest taking that title away from her friend that was there.

Good news is it gets dark earlier meaning there is a bit more time for homework.

Tuesday coach had stopped practice to point out and watch p hustle and dive for balls. I told him after this practice. Today, her other coach told the other girls to stop fooling around and watch p bat because she was one of the smallest on the field yet launching them. She was hitting hard and coach said, “I love this kid!”

He told them, “I can tell her where to hit it, and she’ll hit it there.” Dave said, “have her hit it over the fence!” Coach told him, “I’m gonna tell her to hit you!” Haha we were deep in foul territory. He told Dave after practice that he wished his kid would listen to him like p did. Dave just said she wanted to get better. And she’s probably scared of him. He’s bigger than Dave!

Just keep getting practice in, kid.

Busy Weekend

Friday night was practice as usual, but since the sunlight is lessening, practice for Brandon ended early. Good thing as one of the kids got smacked in the nose with a bat on accident. Brandon was not involved, and he let me know. We went to Peyton's basketball practice, as I hadn't been able to go, as Brandon's practice always conflicted. They still had about half an hour left. Brandon ended up being asked to help out. Some of the softball moms asked how he agreed, since he must have been tired. I told them, "Well, Coach Ryan asked him. If it had been Daddy that asked him, he would have given him dirty looks and funny faces." Fortunately, for him, he wasn't alone in the asking of help. G tried to talk to him, but he was quiet and didn't say much. His response to me when I asked him about it, "She always says stuff, and i have no idea what she is talking about." Hmmph, he sounds like his dad.

Saturday, we headed out early for the softball game. The game was at 930 am, so we were out on the field by 830 am. There were three games that day, 930 am, 1230 pm, and 345 pm, basically out on the field all day long. Brandon had a friend for the first game, an older brother of Peyton's teammate. He's also Brandon's new teammate for the J-league he is in. He plays on another team, as well, so they had a tourney with that team later that day. The boys played video games for the first game, battling each other. Just minutes after, a foul ball hit inside the cart one inch from the switch console! Then, Dave was going to get lunch, and I asked him to take Brandon, to get him "out of here". With Brandon, went Myles. ANd with Myles, went his cousin Gabby. So, Dave had a carfull of kids, where he just wanted to go by himself.

He came back, and we got game 2 started. Myles had to leave for his basketball games in Pacifica. Brandon joked, "Can I go watch him?" Or maybe I joked he should go with Myles, since I was losing my "babysitter". His mom was taking him, and said, "Sure! You can come along!" Brandon looked expectantly at me, and I shrugged sure! We gave him $20 and a missive to mind his manners. He agreed, took his phone, and then left with Myles' mom, aunt, and cousin, Gabby. Dental complications are frequent from the pharmacy australia cialis acid, and that can lead to deterioration of tooth enamel very quickly as well as gum enlargement. Within the yr 1998, the Pfizer Organization effectively launched a medicine named sildenafil and it is marketed as a treatment for tadalafil 20mg generic depression. We paid attention to the next two games.

The team had lost the first, won the second, by a run, and then lost the third game. We all met up with the rest of Myles' family for dinner, running into other J-league families.

We ended the night showering up and getting them off to bed (after piano of course).

Here are the highlights of the tourney:

Peyton was lead off batter and aggressive on the bases.

Her teammate stalled at third, and didn't slide. But, the throw to second worked for Peyton! She did what she was supposed to do.

Here's another hit:

Capitalizing on errors:
They were up today in the semis, but they couldn't hang on to the lead, and errors got the best of them. That meant we could take care of things at home. Brandon had practice today, and Dave dropped him off at home, while another family picked him up. I'm proud that he is acting more maturely, and is capable of conducting himself with others. He armed the house, locked up, and I found him right back at home when I got home.

I asked him how he had charged his phone on Saturday. He said, "AUntie, I mean, Loida, helped me since she was charging Myles' phone." I told him in Hawaii (the family is from Hawaii) that was a sign of respect, and "family is family". I told him it's okay for him to call them Auntie and Uncle, especially, since the cousins probably were saying it all day long. It was really cute hearing him adapt to their family so well. Both boys are lefties, both are the eldest child, and they both remind their parents of the other.

One other thing that happened yesterday, while Brandon was gone, we went to watch the 12 U team, which has girls that are Brandon's age. One is in his homeroom as well as science/math class. Her mom hadn't really acknowledge me in the past, though I'd tried to make the connection between Peyton and Brandon. We saw them at back to school night, but they still didn't really say anything. She came up to talk to me, and asked about school and how Brandon liked things. She knew Brandon's name. And from another teammate, we knew that SHE knew that Brandon was in JJ's class, because JJ had told her. We just didn't know why Brandon's name kept coming up. While the mom and I were talking, her daughter came out of her game to use the restroom. After she was done, she came up to us talking, but it was awkward timing, since she should be back in the game in the dugout! I later told Brandon about our interaction, and his face became contorted, and I believe he was blushing. Kids these days are so awkward with each other.

Here are some pictures of the tourney:

From last weekend In Manteca:

Basketball Playoffs

Monday started the week of playoffs. Brandon went to school wearing his white jersey and bottoms. He was excited, and it was at the school. Dave was there from the beginning and I joined them after work. Peyton was picked up from school by Dave, and she was doing her homework.

They played Hyde, and it was a blow out. Brandon had some playing time, especially after I'd arrived just after half time. Peyton was telling me about her class election results, so I missed filming one of Brandon's baskets. Here's the second one:

He got a defensive board:

With the win, they would be playing Cup middle on Tuesday, who they had lost pretty badly to earlier in the season. Brandon had a fresh uniform, having done laundry the day before after Monday's game. He was wearing white again. One of our big men wasn't playing that game, as he was out with a sore wrist. He came strong today. I arrived in the second half once again, and Peyton was already there with Dave.

They played a close game, and Brandon told me he was a bench leader. They were into the game, watching closely, but they were not IN the game. He was okay with it, knowing his role on the team. As we left the game, some kids were passing us on scooters. They called out to him, "Hey, number 30. That's Steph Curry's number. Good game! ". It was nice that they were being cool with it. They were not shy at all.

They had a break on Wednesday, though they had practice. And then Brandon went to baseball practice.

Today, the coach gave them passes out of class early, about 30 minutes. The parents shuttled them over to the school before the other school dismissed their students. They warmed up and got ready for the league championship. Brandon went to school again, dressed in the blue side of the uniform.

I didn't think Brandon would get a lot of playing time, but they were down by a lot in the second half. He did get to play, and here he is drawing the foul:
Prior to the game, Q, one of the big men, came up to Dave and asked him nicely to work on free throw shooting with Brandon. Apparently, the other kids on the team were riding him about his free throw inability.

Well, after the foul, he was shooting two.

Here he is:
They didn't end up winning, but they did get a small second place trophy. They were edged out 38 to 19.

His season is short and now over. Wrestling is next, and he is thinking about it, but Dave doesn't want him to get seriously hurt. He'll continue with basketball in the league he's in as well as his baseball team.

Tourney Weekend

This weekend, we put the "travel" in travel ball. After Brandon's baseball practice and Peyton's basketball practice Friday night, we packed and got ready for an early headstart on Saturday. The first game was 930 am, meaning we had to be there at 830 am, meaning we had to leave at 7 am since our field was in Manteca. We got up by 6 am, and Peyton heard my alarm and got herself ready. She doesn't do it for much else, but softball is a different story. The two of us headed out ourselves, as Brandon had basketball practice, so he stayed with Dave for that from 10 to 12 pm. They would miss our first game. Peyton was going to be leadoff batter for our first game. She was playing against a tough pitcher, and she struck out a few times. She didn't do well at all on Saturday, even after Dave showed up. Luckily, she didn't get down on herself about it, and she is no longer crying after strikeouts. She was playing second base as well as right field, as they had a ringer pitcher come out.

After the first game, Dave and Brandon showed up to Big League Dreams, which is a park that has 6 fields, all replicas of famous MLB stadiums. She was playing at Yankee Stadium, and I gave my dad a shot of her "playing" there, as it's his favorite team.

They finished up two games there, going 1-2 for the day. The highlight of the games for Peyton was when the two youngest girls were playing center field (V) and right field (Peyton). A batter hit a pop fly to center, and the littlest girl on the field, Little, who is a head shorter than Peyton, dove for the ball and came up with it in her glove. The next batter hit one to Peyton, who had to run in, and made the catch on the run, down by her feet. It wasn't enough to win the game, but it was good fielding nevertheless. The girls headed back to the hotel and straight to the pool. There were some baseball boys that showed up about an hour in, and they just sat and watched through the windows in their full uniforms at the girls. Then did join, and some of them were a bit rough. They were probably Brandon's age or younger. But he was annoyed by them, so he got out and showered himself up. Dave was out getting dinner with some other parents, so I was on kid duty. Peyton got hit in the eye with one of them, so I pulled her out to recover. Finally, when the food arrived, the girls showered up and joined us for dinner.

The Sunday game started bright and early at 8 am. Luckily, we were staying close enough. The girls had to be there by 7 am, and breakfast was not supposed to start until then. Fortunately, the front desk staff opened up early, by 630 am or earlier. While Brandon and I got up, Dave reminded me we had 2 cars, so there was no rush for us. Brandon had to get up at 6 am two mornings in a row. He can't sleep in anyway, especially if there is any noise. SO we headed out shortly after they did.

Peyton was lead off batter again, and she did a much better job.

They were playing at Detroit stadium. I stopped filming, but she'd gotten safe to first, then her coach must have sent her to second. These days, a many physicians suggest their patients to consume sildenafil online uk Sildenafil only when they face issues in their erection. She had pickles for breakfast, as she made the other team play catch and she was monkey in the middle for 3-4 exchanges. Finally, she ran back to first, and the first base coach, all 6'2" and 250# of him got down on the ground with her to get her to slide. She slid successfully back to the bag and was called safe. She then stole the next pitch, sliding safely into second. She's getting more comfortable doing that. Glad to see she found her bat once again. I asked Brandon what she ate for breakfast; his response, "Froot Loops." Um, breakfast of champions?

She got up again in this game:
Too bad, it was a nice hit, but it went right back to the pitcher who fielded it cleanly.

We ended up losing this game, though we'd been up for most of the game. That sent us to the silver bracket back at the other field at 11 am. I sent an email off to the piano teacher that we'd be missing out on the performance party at 130 pm. We went back to that field and waited until our game to start. The other teams were headed over as well. We were playing a team we'd beaten in a previous tournament. It was a tough battle, and it came down to a tie breaker. We were the home team and held the other team with bases loaded.

Here is a pickle Peyton got herself into:

I secretly think she loves it, as it's an adrenaline rush!

It was our turn up, and we got the runs in, with the last one being a walked in run for the win. We were moving on to the next game at 2 pm. I was getting nervous about our 630 pm little mermaid tickets in SJ. Dave had to get Brandon to practice by 530 pm.

The game at 2 pm was against the team that we'd barely beaten the day before. We were a player down, as she was going back home to see her grandma, who was not doing well and was in the hospital.

We struggled, and it was not the same outcome as the day before. We were ousted in the semifinal game. Dave had left halfway through the game, while I left just after. She slept in the car, while I drove us back to SJ. She woke up just as we were getting off the freeway, after sleeping maybe an hour.

We enjoyed the musical; she was a great date! We went potty to start, walked around, she didn't want anything to eat, nothing by way of souvenirs, as she thought the t-shirts were too expensive ($25-40), which she was right for a kid's shirt. I got myself one in my size, but not the one I'd wanted. We both yawned a few times during the show. We were sitting in the second row, one row behind our seats for Annie. She enjoyed it as did I. We got home just after 9 pm, and she showered up and got ready for bed. Brandon was eagerly awaiting our return. What a weekend! I don't think we could have packed any more in than we did.

Renaissance Man

At school, Brandon can apply for Renaissance, which is explained here:

Back of his ID card:

I guess he found out about it in homeroom and decided to apply, as I mentioned the prize was a pizza party and there was soda there.

He did all that it took to get the signatures needed, and since he was doing after school basketball, that counted for his extra-curricular activity. He didn't want to do it next semester, since he didn't want to ask his J-league coach for a signature, since it's outside of school, who wouldn't know what it was all about.

He got 5 front of the lunch line passes, which he gave three away to his friends, since he doesn't get hot lunch. He passed them out because the friends have to wait so long for the line during lunch.
I gave him incentive to use the next two in his possession for a job well done.
