1st Day of School

Most kids are back to school today, and ours is one of them.  He is now in the Toddler Room, which is adjacent to the Infant Room, separated by a sliding kitchen-type door.  His old favorite teacher is Miss Carol, in the Infant Room, and there was some thought that he’d have separation anxiety from her.  I really worried about how the transition would be, if he’d stay asleep for the two hours that all the kids nap (they try to get them all to nap at the same time in this room compared to being on their own schedule in the baby room) or if he’d bully the other kids like he was doing “last year”.  Drop off was similar, as this was the room where he was normally dropped off until the infant room teacher got to school at 830am, so it was a usual routine.  When I walked into the room to pick him up, the teacher came over to me and was so excited to tell me about his day!  He was such a big boy!  He helped her when she had a They generic viagra sales are nice people and wish to assist out. When I passed by Miss Carol on the way out, she said she was so proud of him, too!  It was like he knew he needed to behave like a big boy since he was in the big kid classroom and not in the baby classroom anymore.  I even brought in a new lunchbag for him, with an icepack to keep the food cool.  Brandon was showing it off to Miss Carol, and she knew it.  What a great way to start off the new year.

Little Mister Pickpocket

Forgot to mention when we went to Kenny and Rachel’s, Brandon found some change laying on the coffee table.  He then proceeded to put it in his pocket, right in front of all of us.  If you’re going to steal it, make sure no one sees you!  I guess he doesn’t have much of a future in crime, whew.  Earlier today, Dave was giving him pennies to throw into the fountain.  Maybe that’s what he was saving these up for.  According to a report by a research that people prefer to go for best price on viagra natural ways to beat low testosterone. Trip to Monterey

We headed down to Monterey on Sunday morning, trying to get a head start on any traffic.  We timed it right as Brandon was sleepy, so he’d sleep the whole way down.  We almost failed though, as we were losing him to sleep while we were getting ready.  At least there was no fuss, he was just watching the end of “Cars”.

We got down there but couldn’t check into the hotel.  It was only around 11am, so understandable, but they said we couldn’t check in until 4pm.  So we started walking toward the wharf.  I had just received my AAA magazine, and this weekend, there was a Greek festival.  Mmmm…gyros.  So we bought two gyros and some pastries and had lunch at the wharf.  Brandon loved the meat and pita.  After that, we strolled along the waterfront and made our way over to cannery row and then the aquarium.  We could see the line wrap around the buidling.  Luckily they said it was only about a 1/2 hour wait.  But it was still pretty sunny.  So we waited around in the switchback of lines, reminiscent of a Disneyland ride.  While in line, we were shocked to see this probably 2-3 year old kid in a stroller holding a can of Sunkist orange soda, with an orange ring around his mouth.  I was horrified!  Both parents were rather large, and it just seemed like this kid was headed straight down the same path.  He was quite a pain in the neck too, screaming his head off, whining about something, maybe wanting more Sunkist?  That stuff has caffeine in it too.  Maybe it’s the line of work I’m in, working with diabetes and the epidemic that we’re facing or I’m being really paranoid for Brandon but we’re trying to limit all the crap I see other parents feed their kids.  He’s never had juice let alone soda.  (Another kid I saw inside the aquarium had chocolate milk in a bottle!)  Hopefully Brandon won’t get any of that for a long while and stick to the water that he loves now.  After about 20 minutes or so, mostly watching this bratty kid, we got inside and paid for our tickets.  They say it takes about 3 hours to see everything, but with Brandon, it was less time than that.  He wasn’t too interested in seeing the living animals up close.  Even the otters, which are pretty playful, didn’t seem to interest him too much.  We saw a small great white shark, a new exhibit for them, but what he liked best were the touch zones.  Most of the animals in there were plastic – plastic starfish with suction cups, plastic fish used to play in the water.  They have little aprons to keep the kids mostly dry.  But it was so crowded, Brandon could hardly get in to play.  Especially since he was on the younger side, most of the kids were at least 5 on up.  So he was this itty-bitty little kid trying to get his hands in the water, but had to tippy toe to do so.  There were other toys, like sorting blocks which represented fish, to feed to the whales and dolphins.  So the hands on exhibits were much more entertaining to him, but that just meant more people with which to contend.  We spent about 2 hours, looking around at most of the exhibits, if not just for a second for us to see.  Trying to read all of the information about them was not an option, neither was seeing any of the movies in the auditorium.  We realized a better use of our time would be to leave, get our hands stamped and come back later when the crowds were thinner.  So we walked back to the hotel.  One thing I like to do when Dave’s pushing the stroller is to hold Brandon’s hand.  So he was holding onto my hand then I realized his head was slumped forward.  He had fallen asleep, but continued to hold my hand!  Poor thing, so we reclined him and continued the rest of our way back.  We stopped at the wharf for a snack – a crab salad on a roll.  Yummy! Brandon was so tired, probably from all the excitement at the aquarium, that he even continued to sleep for about another hour after we checked into the hotel, which was great, because it let me sleep too!  After we both woke up, just before 6pm, we decided to go get something to eat.  I wanted Fish and Chips, Dave wanted Mexican, and we wanted to make sure Brandon would eat something.  We drove back to the wharf and found a place that had all of that!  Dave got some fish tacos, I had my fish and chips, and we ordered a small plate of veggies for Brandon to go along with both of our food.  He had some of Dave’s salmon, and I took off the fried shell of my battered fish.  We made it over to the aquarium right before 7pm.  We realized we had missed the octopus exhibit; we thougth that Brandon would like that, since he has a bath squeeze toy, which he calls the “Ah-ba-dee-dee, Ah-ba-dus”.  The two octopi (sp?) there were pretty boring, somewhat hard to find too.   We also stopped by the penguin exhibit since we missed that, too.  But the main attraction as far as Brandon was concerned was the hands on kid zone.  He loved it!  So focused on getting the circles to fit in one animal’s mouth and the squares to fit in another.  There were way less kids in there so it was much easier for him to get around.  We even had time for the gift shop.  I was looking for a puzzle of some kind.  They had some puzzles that were sea-themed, but they were along the lines of the puzzles that he has at home.  So we found this one wooden one that had shapes of numbers from 0-9, with sea animals of that respective number.   We got out of the gift shop right as the aquarium was closed.  We took a few pictures and then left to go back to the hotel.  Brandon and I were playing with the puzzle while Dave went to go forage for more food.  He had only had two tacos, so it didn’t satisfy his hunger for Mexican.  So he went to order burritos while we played.  In putting the pieces of the puzzles together, I noticed that the number 8 has 9 animals!  What?  Dave was so mad, he wanted to go return the puzzle, claiming it was defective.  I told him we could just scratch out a whale, and then it would be all good.  We then bathed Brandon, fed him a little burrito, and with a full tummy, he was down and out.  We put him on the floor since the bed was only a queen.  But in the middle of the night, I asked Dave to check and see if he was cold.  Next thing I know, Brandon was in between us.  Dave said, “He’s cold” but when I touched him, he was nice and warm.  Dave stuck to his claim that he was cold and also, “I miss him.”  Awww…who could disagree with that, so there he was, like old times, foot in my face, tossing and turning.

We woke up for a continental breakfast in bed, well, after Dave went to the lobby to get it, and then sent me back for round 2.  The boys dropped me off at the spa, where I got to hang out at the Monterey Plaza Hotel Spa and finally get to use my gift certificate from Valentine’s Day.  I went out to the deck and used the hot tub – it was a breath-taking view of the water.  The sun wasn’t out initially, but it finally broke through the clouds while I was out there reading some magazines.  I relaxed for about an hour and then got ready for my treatment – a therapeutic 50-minute massage.  So relaxing :).  I wish I could have one everyday. Ok, maybe more realistically, every quarter?  At this rate, it’s been over a year, almost two.  This is my first post-baby massage.  The last one was when I was pregnant!  Afterwards, I tried calling Dave, but it went straight to voicemail.  So I took a shower then decided to go shopping, thinking I’d try his cell later.  He had run out of battery earlier in the day, so as I was leaving, I saw he and Brandon right at the base of the stairs in the plaza.  What a site for sore eyes, I had missed them!  “Mommy,” Brandon said while pointing to me as I made my way down the stairs.  Aaww…what a perfect end to the massage.  My tummy was growling at the last part of the treatment, so we went to go find something to eat.  We checked out of the hotel and went to a bakery, Parker-Lusseau, which delivers pastries to the hotel.  We had a curried tuna croissant sandwich and a goat cheese and sun-dried tomato quiche before heading home.  We made it in time for family afternoon.  As soon as we drove up, Brandon pointed to the building and said, “Rachel.”  Yes, we were at Rachel and Kenny’s for some Labor Day BBQ.  Sophia and Scott were also over, which is ironic, because they are both going to school in Monterey.  They were going to drive back today as school starts tomorrow.  We didn’t stay long, but we were there long enough to enjoy pulled pork, mac and cheese, ribs, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob and some yummy bread pudding.  Definitely lots of good food as always.  We came back home to settle in and clean up for tomorrow, Brandon’s first day of school!

A Trick on Brandon

Brandon usually wakes up around 630am and comes over to my side of the bed to be picked up and fed.  But last night, Dave and I switched sides of the bed.  So in the morning, Brandon went over and it was Dave.  Knowing he couldn’t get milk out of Dave, he then turned around and went back to his own bed.  And started pacing between his bed and ours.  He found a cup of water and started drinking The ingredient used for the production of such helpful product free shipping viagra is known as sildenafil citrate. Happy Anniversary!

What a day!  We started our 6th year anniversary with an early morning tennis session with Rachel, Kenny, and Kenny’s cousing, Ben.  We were trying to get there around 9am, but for us, it turned out to be more like 930am.  There are several “theories” of why this occurred; it really depends on who you ask.  Anyways, we got there and couldn’t find parking, so Dave dropped me off, and I rallied a bit with the three while Dave came around later with Brandon on his bike.  We played “King (or Queen in some instances) of the Court”.  We had to hit the ball safely for two shots, then whoever won the point stayed on the court to face the next challenger.  Overall, Kenny was the King, however he did have some losses to both Rachel and myself, after talking trash.  It was heating up already especially as we were leaving around 11am.

We went home and took quick showers and got ready for the Stanford-UCLA football game.  We picked up some sandwiches and headed up to Palo Alto, caravaning with Kenny and Rachel who also had tickets, but in another section.  Kenny was a good sport for going to the game since Missouri was also playing Illinois at the same time.  We were trying to make it to the stadium before the fly-by. We wanted to show Brandon the big jets.  We got stuck in a bit of traffic, and then had to park pretty far from the stadium.  Just as we were getting out of the car, we could hear the Star Spangled Banner being performed.  That meant the fly-by was probably pretty near.  Then in the distance, we saw the three planes overhead.  Brandon had been sleeping in the car, but woke up by the time we took him out and was able to see the planes!  So, we headed up to the stadium, then left Kenny and Rachel at the game because our tickets didn’t scan.  This was our first trip to the new stadium, and apparently, the event staff said something was wrong with the scanners.  Luckily we got in without too much of a hassle.  We found our seats, after walking 1/2 way around the stadium.  We were on the upper deck, in the first row.  It was nice because we didn’t have anyone in front of us, but it was also scary, because by the time we lifted Brandon up, he was above the rail.  The seats were much nicer than the old wooden benches.  They were plastic and each seat was marked and grooved to fit one person; no more fighting for butt space on those uncomfortable benches.  But being in the first row, I was also afraid of losing our belongings in the diaper bag.  I had a camera in there and totally forgot to take a picture!  It was a scorching day.  We had a spray bottle to cool us down and were armed with 3 16-oz bottles and Brandon’s sippy cup full of water.  And it lasted only about a quarter and a half.  Brandon was really excited to hear the 8-clap – luckily we had plenty of opportunity to hear it as there were two touchdowns while we sat there.  Half way through the second quarter, Brandon was getting way too hot, despite misting and having him drink his sippy cup.  His little cheeks were so pink.  Not wanting to risk heat stroke, I took him to the shady area beneath our seats.  Dave was going to come find us at halftime.  There were TVs right above the concession stands.  Most of the people in the shade were the moms and kids or pregnant women.  It was just way too hot for the little kids, and definitely not worth them baking in the sun.  I can’t even imagine being pregnant and having to sit out there and watch a football game.  So, I hung out with some other moms, pretty friendly UCLA fans.  Brandon and I even watched some plays on TV.  But they didn’t have the score or downs, minutes left or anything.  It was just the plays, but still could hear the fans cheering after the plays were run, like we were truly watching a live game.  Brandon was pretty tired, considering it was almost 3pm and he had only napped the 20 minutes it took us to drive up to Palo Alto.  So finally, I was able to get him to sleep and I watched the “World’s Fastest Golfer” which we had heard about in the newspaper.  We weren’t really sure in what sense he was fast.  But he had a guy setting up balls for him, and then he would just swing and hit the ball one after the other, like a machine.  It was pretty crazy, but from the TV, I couldn’t tell how accurate he was, like if he was just spraying balls everywhere or what.  But it looked tiring, because toward the end of the set time, his swing faded a bit.  Just at the end of halftime, Dave found us.  We were a bit hard to find, because I was standing up against a post right under the stairway.  I was using it for support because Brandon was getting pretty heavy.  We decided to go up and watch the third quarter, which had already gotten underway.  Our entire row had cleared out, which was nice because we got to spread out.  There were so many people just watching the game from within the shady area.  But it was standing room only.  But since Brandon was sleeping, it was a little easier to hide him from the sun.  We covered him with extra clothes that we had wet and also put his hat on him (which he had taken off while he was awake).  After the Bruins went up 28-10 in the third, Dave turned to me and said, “Ok, let’s go.”  It was a safe enough margin that we were pretty much sure we could keep up and win.  And deep down, Dave wanted to go check out the Missouri game too.  So when we got up, Dave took Brandon, who then woke up from the transfer, and we walked back to the car.

We were supposed to meet up with Teddy and Eunice who were visiting from LA this weekend.  We had been practicing saying Teddy’s name, which is easy because it’s like Teddy bear.  But Eunice’s name proved a challenge to Brandon.  He didn’t even step up to the plate on that one.  Oh, well, he just needs more time with it.  Look how long it took him to say Rachel and saw her every week!  Teddy had called Dave earlier and we were shooting for about 6pm.   After the Missouri game, Dave started to give Brandon a bath, then had me finish while he went to Home Depot to get a part for our broken toilet (it’s leaking water from the tank).  Then as soon as he came home, he said, “Ok, Teddy just called, they are driving down to the peninsula now.”  Aaah!  So more quick showers, since we were sticky from the game.  Luckily Brandon was clean already.  We met up with Teddy and Eunice right around 6pm (Brandon was trying to sleep again), and went to Mango Bay in Redwood Shores.  During dinner, I was asking Teddy and Eunice about details of their upcoming wedding.  Then Teddy said something to Eunice in Korean and then started to ask if Brandon would be a ringbearer in the wedding.  It was really cute though because Teddy became a little tongue-tied just asking.  Like he was asking someone on a date for the first time.  Of course we’d be so excited to have Brandon be a ringbearer.  We told Teddy that he has practice already!  So 3/29/08 is on our calendars.  Yay!!  And once Brandon had woken up and said hello to them, he really had a good time.  They played with his football, and played peek-a-boo, and even later at dessert, took pictures with them!  They will get along well.  Brandon is getting better about taking pictures; he sat on their lap and we were able to take a really good picture, but it was with their camera.  By the time I got my camera out, he had lost his perfect pose and was looking everywhere but the camera.  When they send us the photo, we’ll upload it.  (I left my camera at my parents’ house, so maybe later, when I get it).

Teddy and Eunice were going out to meet another friend in the city, so we went back to my parents, since we were so close, and had to drop something off for my mom.  Brandon hadn’t seen “Papa” in awhile, so he was really excited to go there.  While we were there, he tested out some new golf clubs that my dad had gotten.  Strangly, Brandon golfed lefty with these righty clubs.  He set up and hit the ball as if he were left-handed.  It was just awkward because the club face was on the opposite site.  But when he putted, he used the correct surface and putted righty.  Hmmm…unconventional, but at least he’s interested!  He even went back to my dad’s room and told him to come watch him play.  He wanted to show him how he could hit the ball.  He was so into it, he started getting sweaty again.  He had beads dripping down his face.  It was getting late, but we didn’t have the heart to stop him from golfing.  Eventually, we had to pry the golf club out of his hands to go home!  It was 1030pm – way past Brandon’s bedtime.  So we distracted him with a Mickey head antenna ball and put all the clubs away.  As we were driving home, my mom called and told us we forgot my little camera at the house.  So no pictures right away.

And so the end of our action-packed anniversary day spent with our close friends and family 🙂   Tomorrow, we will continue with our own special trip to Monterey.  Gotta love long weekends.

Home Daycare

Today is my turn with Brandon and Jesselyn.   My coworkers said I was lucky to have the day off for a four day weekend.  Hmm…while today is my dayoff (from work), I have a feeling that it will be much more tiring than any day at the office.  The morning went well!  We played with a bunch of different toys, mostly sharing them, read books, and colored.  Brandon is learning how to share, but I am glad we have duplicates of some things, like, strangly, golf balls.  That was the first refereeing match we did, even while Jennifer was here.  We ate goldfish for a snack and then ate lunch around 1115am.  I fed Jesselyn first because Brandon was busy with his toys.  Towards the end of Jesselyn’s lunch, as she was slowing down and not eating as much Brandon started opening his mouth and lunging for her spoon.  Ok, I got the point.  So I fed Brandon his lunch while Jesselyn played with the toy car.  She was getting a little fussy, getting frustrated because other toys were in the road.  Brandon was also instigating, trying to get her off the car.  Then he got whiny when I took him away and told him to leave Jesselyn alone.  I told him when he calmed down, he could play again.  He said no and started walking down the hall towards our room.  It was dark because I had closed both bedroom doors to have them not go in there.  I asked him if he wanted to take a nap and he said, “yeah”.  Ok, so I opened the door and let him go in there, still whimpering some.  He hopped up on his bed, Some people think that “natural” means “hocus pocus,” but that is not the case at viagra cipla 20mg all. So after Jesselyn was sound asleep, I took Brandon out to the other room so he wouldn’t wake her up.  Again, if Brandon slept as well as he ate, I’d be set.  But what would life be without some challenges.  So I walked him around, like the old days, in the dark, to really tire him out.  It worked like a charm.  After two minutes, I could feel his head get really heavy.  Yes…so down on his mattress he went and here I am.  Ok, time for me to eat!  Then hopefully my mom will be back for a tagteam effort in the afternoon.

Last Day of School!

Today was the last day of school, so I brought a camera (and a cute outfit for Brandon) to school.  I took two pictures of him with his favorite teacher in the morning.  This is the best time since she is not as busy and also since Brandon is clean!  No stains on his clothing early in the morning, and he’s bright-eyed and bushy tailed.  Later in the afternoon, one of the parents was driving up when I was leaving with Brandon.  She had wanted to take a class picture, but the school said it must be done off school property.  She Diagnosis and treatment The problem can be diagnosed with a homocysteine (Hcy) Assay kit, and can be managed properly, preventing any kind of complications. sample of viagra This resulted in a situation whereby federal agents will no longer sleep miffed because of your inability to perform in bed. soft cialis mastercard energyhealingforeveryone.com Today, quite a large number tadalafil 20mg españa of males around the world have taken the bold decision to take this medication 15 to 30 minutes before having the desire to do sex. Mum-mum, okay?

In the past, Brandon would ask, “mum-mum” and tug at my shirt.  I’m still aiming to breastfeed for 2 years (as recommended by our pediatrician).  But as his vocabulary gets bigger and he knows how to use words better, it becomes a little more tricky.  So, he says, “mum-mum” over and over, especially in the mornings when he first wakes up, until I give in.  He usually stands by the bed and will cry out for up and mum-mum.  I usually get myself ready, take my time, prop up pillows, then say, “Ok.”  So now, he’s learn to cut out the middle word and says, “Mum-mum, okaaay?”  He doesn’t even wait for me to say ok anymore.  He’s taking liberties now as well, because he’ll say, “Mommy, okaaay?” but doesn’t really wait for me anymore.  Then my mom will use “mum-mum” interchangably with “let’s eat” like at a restaurant.  So I had to tell her to use the words eat ___ (insert meal here) so as not to prompt him to start tugging on my shirt and making a scene.  Oh…weaning will be so fun.

Falling asleep…today Brandon was a bit more fussy, seems like he was just really tired.  So Dave was out on the phone with his parents and I was on my bed in the dark, waiting for Brandon to go to sleep.  He saw that I was still there so tried getting me to lift him up onto our bed.  But I was a little lazy and also want Brandon to learn how to sleep without us being right there for him.  He got tired of trying to get my attention, so he plopped down next to the bed on his pillow.  I could tell he was trying to find a good position, tossing and turning, but slowly falling asleep.  I snuck out to do the dishes – so it worked!  He doesn’t really need us!  Dave went in to check on him and he wasn’t in his usual place on the bed.  So Dave came back and asked where he was (but had already figured out where he was).  He said he almost stepped on him!  That would have been a rude awakening.

Brandon’s last day of school is tomorrow.  The new school year starts on Tuesday in the Toddler Room.  Thursday and Friday are in-service days, so the teachers will close the school to prepare for the next year.  Brandon and Jesselyn will be here at our house with my mom on Thursday and then with me on Friday.  Beats what happened today – my boss told me I had to cover one of my coworkers shifts because she had to leave suddenly.  Apparently, she got a call from the hospital to go pick up her not yet 2 year old daughter.  The nanny left the baby in the car while stopping at the bank.  Passersby heard the baby crying and seeing no one in the vicinity, broke the window of the car to get her out.  So the police were involved, obviously.  It was super hot today, in the 90’s outside of the car.  I have no idea how long the little girl was in the car, but that is ridiculous!  Supposedly, my coworker had just told my boss that this nanny was working out (she has gone through several)!  What would possess someone to think that it was ok?  I am so paranoid about leaving Brandon in the car, I even took him with me to open the garage door at my Grandma’s house (you have to get buzzed up and go around to open the garage door from the inside).  Another coworker called to check in and see how the baby was doing.  Fortunately, she was doing well.  We’ll see what happens, I’m curious if she will come in to work, since she presumably has no nanny now.  Earlier in the morning, Jennifer and I had given Carol a “thank you” present for a massage.  Carol thanked us for entrusting the lives of our children to her.  She teared up a little (which made me teary as well) and said she’d have separation anxiety from the kids as well.  She’s really watched Brandon grow up – he started when he was 7 months old, barely crawling.  Now he’s walking and talking.  She also mentioned that her son is a senior this year and that’s gotten her emotional as well.  So when I went to pick up Brandon, I had to tell Carol and thank her again for all that she’s done.  And that is why I am so thankful for such a great school and teachers that Brandon has.  We initially struggled between day care versus a nanny.  I just couldn’t fathom trusting just one strange person to take care of Brandon.  Even leaving him in a home day care with one caregiver was hard – because there were a range of kids there and he was the youngest and most defenseless.  I feel absolutely comfortable leaving him in good, loving hands now.  It makes such a difference at work, not having to worry about Brandon during the day.  Ok, long post, but a great deal of drama today.

Right from Wrong

Brandon is beginning to understand more, especially right from wrong.  He was drawing on his paper, with the instructions to keep his pen on the paper.  Next thing I know, he’s got pen all over his face.  Since he couldn’t see what he had done, I picked him up and went over to the mirror.  I told him that his face was now dirty, ick.  He looked a little sad and said, “dirty, wash it.”  I told him I wasn’t going to wash it, that his face would be dirty, and it would stay that way until we took a bath.  He looked in the mirror again and was trying to rub it off.  Later, after our usual dinner, I went to give him a bath.  Dave usually allows Brandon to splash around, but I don’t on my watch.  So I told him I needed him to keep the water in the tub.  He continued to splash, and I firmly told him that I was upset because I was all wet.  I was as stern as possible, looking straight at him.  He stopped splashing, looked down, turned his head a little, looked up and then gave me a kiss on the hand.  Awww….how can you not just melt, but NO, he needs to learn his lesson.  So I fought back a smile and told him that I was still upset with him for getting water all over the place.  There was a little struggle to drain the water – he knows that when there is no more water in the bath, that it’s over.  So he plugs the drain, while I try to release it.  Sneaky guy!

He also hears me, but tunes me out, I’m sure of it.  He likes to play with the plastic containers in the lazy Susan.  He mostly takes them out, and it’s not so much that he puts them back.  So I told him to “clean it up” and he just stared at me and smiled.  Again, with a stern face, I told him that I needed his help to clean up the mess that he had made.  He slowly started coming around, after ignoring me, putting the containers back, one by one.  When he wants to, he can be really helpful.  He’ll even say, “cleanitup” and start shoving things back.  But other times, he’s really stubborn!

Getting him to eat veggies – I set these out first when I know he’s hungry.  He usually goes for them without protest (spitting them out).  We got a bunch of tomatoes and cucumbers from my mom, so I spooned out some hummus and set them out.  He ate a few tomatoes, then realized there were cucumbers and went to town on those.  He shoved them all in his mouth and I thought it was definitely coming back out.  He’ll sometimes take just the juice out and spit out the rind, so I was a little worried.  But he ate the whole mouthful!  And more!  After we were done with those veggies, I set out the carrots, because I know he’ll eat carrots.  He just wanted the “dip” at that point and licked off the hummus, but I told him he had to eat the carrot too, so he took a full bite.  After a few carrots, we went back to the cukes.  He’s never eaten so many veggies at once, hopefully he doesn’t have major gas tomorrow.

Weekend in Review

We went up to Auburn this weekend, to visit my mom and some old ski buddies.  We stopped by my grandma’s house first, since, as she put it, “I haven’t seen your kid in awhile”.  So, had dinner there, waited out traffic, saw my cousin Marc before he drove down to LA after spending a summer here, and oh, yeah, played Mah Jong.  Marc wanted one last game before leaving. Dave and I took turns playing, but since Brandon wanted to play too, we had to open a separate set to give him a few tiles to play with.  We mostly stacked them on top of each other like any other blocks, but since I had a captive audience, I started teaching him characters.  He comes from a family of MJ players, so he might as well learn early.  We started with the Bok-Bahn (window), which he was good at saying and later recognizing out of a bunch of tiles.  Then he mastered the “bird”, 1 of bamboo.  He sat relatively still while on Marc’s lap, but we warned Marc, to be careful that he knows some of the tiles already and may give them away.

After we were done taking each other’s money, we left to drive up to Auburn.  It took us 3 hours to get up there!  No traffic, but there was construction so that caused some delays.  We finally got up there, and went right to sleep.  Brandon had already fallen asleep long before, almost as soon as we headed off.  He continued to sleep even after laying him down on the floor.  We had an aerobed that we set up out in the living room.

We are still trying to figure out what makes Brandon scream out at school, but wakes up only mildly upset at home.  So, with the new setting, when Brandon woke up the next morning, he sat up and looked at the fireplace and said, “Hot.”  That was it.  No crying, no fussing, nothing.  So we acknowledge him, and I proceeded to feed him and he was good!  After that, not quite sure what happened, I kept sleeping, but apparently lots of things took place.  Brandon went swimming for an hour, Dave washed and waxed the car,  and I think everyone had breakfast.  I had a haircut that day (finally) and we had old ski friends coming into town for a BBQ.  They are my mom’s friends, but have been around ever since I can remember mostly on ski trips.  They were also bringing friends over, so in total, we had about 12 people there.  While the “grown-ups” talked, we took turns pushing Brandon around on his bike, and kept him semi-entertained outside.  It was pretty warm outside, about 90 degrees at the warmest, but we had a shady patio umbrella and a water mister.  On Sunday, we had breakfast with two of the women who had stayed over since their drive was several hours.  They were sisters.  We ate breakfast outside in the backyard and they were talking about being on a farm and farm animals.  Rooster came up and Brandon, who had been playing with his food, looked up and said, “Cockadoodle-doo!”  We didn’t even think he was listening or paying attention!

We then drove out to visit Nevada City and Grass Valley.  While we were at lunch, Brandon had crayons and a coloring book provided by the restaurant.  It was perfect!  Kept him totally entertained; well, that, and the crusty bread.  He must have been pretty hungry, because he was stuffing it his mouth, but the crust was pretty hard.  He was also pointing out all the horsies in the mural behind our table.  The sisters drove home from there and then we headed off to find a hike.  We went to Clementine Lake in Auburn and tried to find a trail, but it was scary carrying Brandon over a sloping with slippery rocks.   It may have been better if we had a carrier, but even then, the ground was unsteady and sloped a bit, so it just didn’t seem safe.  So we just looked at the dam from afar, which was still pretty scary.  Long drop!  We bought a pie from a local fruit stand in town, then went back home.  We were trying to wait out traffic on this end too, so we had our small “family get together” since the usual “family night” was cancelled, much to my dismay.   The drive back was uneventful, mostly because Brandon and I were sleeping!  Thanks Dave for getting us back safely!
