I stayed up last night until about 2am. Way too late! The kids did me a favor though and didn’t come in until 8am. I have no idea who woke up first, but they both came in together, prompting Dave to say, “They’re like ants!” We picked them up, and brought them to the bed. We said happy birthday to Peyton, who then asked, “When’s Papa’s birthday?” This girl really doesn’t like attention on her, and was deflecting! Then she asked to watch TV, again not wanting to talk about her birthday. She then told me, “I’m three because I am not two anymore,” and smiled. The parade wasn’t on, so we did watch a little TV, but soon the kids got hungry. We went downstairs to eat breakfast, and got our day started. We needed to go in search of a cake before the family came over. We found one, and Peyton helped select the flavor – cookies and cream ice cream with chocolate cake. Yum. After lunch, we told the kids to go take a nap. Neither argued, and within 5 minutes, both were asleep! They are still catching up on their sleep from our travels. Both slept for over an hour and a half, then Brandon was awoken by a siren. Darn! He had been wanting to play Operation, from Ashlyn and Copter, and now was our chance! I asked him to get it quietly so as to not awaken Peyton. He did, more or less, get it quietly, and we started to play, just the three of us. Brandon was first up, and he buzzed before we could even explain to him how the game worked! He was happy to play with us, even though he didn’t fare too well. At the end of the game, we counted up our money, and I had over $3000, Dave had $2000, and Brandon said, “And I have no dollars!” But he was lighthearted about it, a far cry from last year when there would have been tears. He was a great sport about it, and we left him to practice on his own. We moved him over to the living room so as not to disturb Peyton with all the buzzing. Later, the family came over, and rang the doorbell! Ugh. That was Peyton’s alarm to get up. She was a bit shy, coming down just to tell me she had to go potty. She slowly warmed up, but still didn’t like all the attention she was getting. We had set out snacks, but everyone seemed hungry, so we started our “dinner” at 4pm! Seemed no one really ate much lunch. Worked out, since Dave had already been cooking the taco fixings. We enjoyed a yummy “linner”, and the kids ate well. We cleaned up, and after the food had settled, we brought Peyton’s cake out. It was still very firm, so we opened presents first. She started to cry when she was asked to thank my aunt for a gift. She did thank my grandma. She just doesn’t like to be put on the spot. At all! She cheered up a little upon opening the necklaces that my mom had given to her. My grandma told me I shouldn’t be filming her during the melt down, but I couldn’t help myself! I saw the whole thing unfold through the lens. She also cheered up when she received her present from Brandon, an Ariel doll. He picked it out (of the dolls I had purchased for her). She received the Rapunzel doll for Christmas, and just opened it today. I told her to be careful with it, and she did just that, lovingly carrying it around. The thing is about half her size, so it was no easy task to carry it around. Here is Brandon giving her a kiss on the cheek for her birthday.

When she was alone, she just stared at the cake. The kids each had a piece of cake with an Oreo piece. We let them stay up until about 9pm, but both were getting cranky. At one point, both kids were crying, which is an unusual occurrence. Peyton didn’t want to take a bath, while Brandon wanted music (which he hasn’t had for a few months now). Usually it’s one kid or the other who cries, but both were whining. Dave gave Peyton a bath, and after she had calmed down, she said, “Can I go to sleep?” Brandon was giving excuses after excuses to come downstairs to see what we were doing, while Peyton remained upstairs, sleeping through his tantrums. We ignored him, and he marched down on his own and got his stool, a cup, and his own water. We had him do this this morning, when he asked for water. And he was upset to have to do this on his own. But when it was time to sleep, he was happy to do this for himself. We have one more day of our vacation. We’ll have to get something for Peyton’s classmates, and prepare a treat for the class to celebrate her birthday on Tuesday.
So Peyton is three today, and to recap, her favorite ride at Dland is Small World, with Ariel being a close second. She still enjoys her some sleep, but talks, yells or fights in her sleep. She says “discussting” instead of disgusting, and said, “That’s not gross, that’s wonderful!” when disagreeing with something Brandon was saying. When asked if she missed school, after being out for two weeks, she said, “No, I miss Disneyland.” Calls snoopy “snufee”. Is able to identify many of the Christmas songs now, including “Santa Baby,” despite being sung by different artists. Continues to enjoy frozen veggies, Cheerios for breakfast, and watching Aladdin as a reward for keeping her underwear dry. She is writing “P”, and recognizes almost all her letters. She is practicing her phonics, and knows most of the sounds the letters makes. She is great at puzzles, able to do iPad puzzles of up to 49 pieces (they are fixed in orientation which makes it easier). She likes the Hello Kitty ones most. She is proficient at real 24 piece jigsaw puzzles, and is working on the 48 pieces, which are a bit more challenging in real life. She will “read” a book, and make up her own story based on the pictures. She is working on math now, learning how to add numbers together. She wants to keep up with her brother, and is very independent. She can be stubborn, but overall likes to listen to our instructions, especially when her brother is not. I’ll be taking her in to her appointment on Friday, and we’ll see how she’s grown. She is currently wearing 24 month pants comfortably, with 3-4T tops. She has inherited my stubby legs, poor girl. The 3T’s pants are still a bit long, and gappy in the waist. She is all girl, wanting diamond earrings, and loving the bracelet and necklace my mom gave her. Her favorite colors are pink and purple. She is mastering her brother’s funny faces, including her “Matterhorn” face, which always makes me giggle. Her favorite is Papa, even though he pinches her nose, and she lets us know. And she is now 3, going on 30.
